Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

Will be the most exciting talent we've taken in many many many years if the Wizard indeed lands at Waverley.

18 years since our last top 5 draft pick, if anyone can possibly live up to the tag, it's this man.
I love the way the Wiz plays and he was the perfect IN for the Hawks once Brockman wanted out.
But Ginni coming in… whom I am not close to being sold on as a player… and with two very promising players in JOC and Bennetts coming on… means that we are all stocked up on small fwds.
I understand the idea of talent first and then pick on position and need. But as much as I like the Wiz, I’d be taking someone other than a small fwd.

The Wiz is awesome. He has such energy in everything he does. As much as my mind says that he is not the right choice for the Hawks now that we have taken Ginnivan, my heart still wants him at out club.

I am with you projectdingley . Maybe the heart is smarter than the head.

Need speed and x-factor in the forward line. Breust can't go on forever. Wingard future up in the air. Bennetts is a Cat B rookie so has to come from a long way back. O'Sullivan has only played a handful of VFL games.

Watson wont just bring speed and x-factor, he'll bring the goals as well.

You'd have to think he'll have at least a Breust, Gray etc. level career to justify pick 4.

Dare I say it, Rioli level ability.

He does look to be some parts Cyril to my eye.

Gets into a move, puts another one on, everyone around him is still reacting to move 1 even after he's executed move 2.

That's Cyril like. On another plain to everyone else.

Cyril a bigger body though. But no reason why he can't become bigger, stronger, faster etc. at AFL level.

Dursma is the want. Maybe Watson is what we actually need?

Either good imo.

No-one will ever be like Cyril…. A push from Cyril made a play. He was the highest IQ player that the AFL has ever seen.the lowest posession but highest impact player ever

No 2023 draft option is close to Cyril on IQ

One of the best aspects of Watsons game is his ability to influence the scoreboard with his disposals.

I don’t say this lightly, but that in itself is a great comparison to Cyril. Every time Watson touches the ball something happens. Doesn't need to have many possessions to have maximum impact. 39 of his 49 disposals at the National Champs were score involvements.

39 disposals - 24 shots at goal, 14 goals, 5 behinds.

The figures don’t even make sense to the eye. Freakish talent. Has done it against bigger bodies all throughout juniors from U12 Vic Metro to U18 Vic Metro. No reason he can’t do it against players in the AFL.

I wouldn’t say we are stocked. We have Punk and Chad who are both getting on. Ginni is a great in which I’m stoked with but is a different player to the wiz.

I really like the look of Bennets and O’Sullivan but neither have played a game yet. Wiz could literally be anything.

Happy with either Duursma or Watson but I’ve been on the Wiz train from day 1 so still hope we take him.

Totally agree.

The idea that you would overlook the most talented small forward we’ve seen at junior level in the past decade because you’ve got a 33 year old, a long term injured 31 year old and two kids who have only played VFL to worry about is nuts. Ginnavin may well be a regular in our best 22, but Watson can slot in as well.

Take The Wiz, and the others can work out how to get into the side.

I expect we will take the highest rated player available at our first pick regardless of what position he plays ( or has played). I have no preference as talent trumps position with an early draft pick and our list can use all the talent we can draft.
I haven’t seen any of them play but physically McCabe looks as if he will need a few preseasons and games at Box Hill before being ready for a regular AFL stint. Most KPPs take a few years to do so. However it is always good to have a few KPPs on the list as they are in high demand and short supply as we saw in the trade period.
Assuming we draft Dear, I am guessing he will be a slower burn than McCabe but our recruiters will know if he is worth developing for the medium term.

Davo-27 we have little draft capital so I think that we should trade 4 to dees for 6/11. With those picks with all I have seen we take O’Sullivan and Wilson. O’Sullivan has incredible upside he’s already racking up touches is athletic can take a tackle and distribute and can defend at 200cms. Wilson is a freak. Runs all day breaks the lines excellent kick good handballer and can mark well above his head and kicks goals. What do you think?

Cyril just being in the vicinity made a play. Just ask Sheridan in the 2015 prelim.

Rather than splitting pick 4 into two picks further down, in effect diluting talent focus from 1 into 2, shouldn't we be doing the opposite? As many have said, it's already becoming challenging to find spots for the bevy of young players waiting in the wings. Why add to this? I say stick with 4 and pick the best talent. Focus on a single individual, whoever that may be.

Whilst we have lowered our draft hand for 2024, we should acknowledge that we've taken Ward, C. Macdonald, Butler, Serong, Mackenzie, Weddle, Husthwaite, B. MacDonald, and O'Sullivan in the last two drafts. Adding in Ramsden as a MSD who I'll count due to the talent he has, that's 10 additions over the last 24 months.

I think if those 10 are rated highly enough internally, we shouldn't need to hit the draft as hard in the coming 2-3 years.

We also add Wiz, McCabe, and most likely Dear to the above 10.

It's about hitting specific needs in the next 18 months now. KPD, superstar midfielder are the two that spring to mind.

Wouldn't mind trading up somehow for Arie Schoenmaker. Steven May mkII

We also need a game changer KPF as well. Get the FA budget and therefore strategy right. Very much like the idea of pick purchasing next year. Used properly, will help immensely.

I am probably Curtin's biggest fan but even I'm starting to shift to team Wiz.

Ginnivan and Wiz put bums on seats for the next 10 years.
Im getting there as well. Sounds like he’ll definitely be a player. It’ll be interesting to see who’s available at our pick and which way we go. If curtin and Watson are both available it’s a big decision
