Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

Just plain stupid. Are they saying they offered us 6 & F1? No way would we take that.
No. Way.
Plus we've been told their last offer or whatever was 6 & 11 and no F1.
MM responding to that deal would have been nice...

If Curtin is any possibility of slipping to 10 like suggested then I hope we are up to our neck trying to get Geelong’s first with our F1. Watson and Curtin on draft night would be huge for us.

Watson looks good but I don't like that he didn't do the combine, didn't play a vfl game and (grabbed from the WB board) has only appeared in the best players in 7 or 8 of his 100 recorded games.
Maybe I'm jumping at shadows but I'm leaning towards trading down and grabbing players that have shown great improvement this year instead of Watson.

I really like the look of Demattia and listening to his manager he was a real student of the game(which Sammy would love) and the flexibility that he can play on all 3 lines is a tick for me!!
Do we trade our future 1st for Swans pick 12, their future 1st and the compo pick for Stephens they got from North??

I'm deep down the rabbit hole here. Is there any way we could end up with picks 6, 7 and 8?

Hawks - F1
GWS - 7

Hawks - 4 (+ something?)
Dees - 6 + 11

Hawks - 11 + F2 (Pies)
Geelong - 8 + F3

I'm not sure if we can trade certain future picks without receiving any in return though.

AND this hinges on Melbourne wanting Watson desperately, which I'm unsure of.

1) WCE - Reid
2) GCS - Walter
3) North - Duursma
4) North - McKercher
5) Dees - Watson
6) WBD - Sanders
7) Hawks - Curtin
8) Hawks - O'Sullivan
9) Hawks - Caddy / Leake

Add McCabe as well and we have made out like absolute bandits.

Like the idea but you can’t do it as you need both f2/3 to trade f1. So I don’t think it’s possible we don’t have the draft capital. Also we can only take 2 players plus McCabe and dear and rookie wingard and Stephens.
Next best I floated and now enhanced as this is really the last chance for trade speculation was this mega trade
44,47,49 suns for 27
4,f2(pies),62 for 6,11,f1(dees)
11,27 for f1(port),f3(freo),34,64
F1(dees) for f2(north),57
F1 for 7 or 8

2023: 6,7or8,34,57,63,64
2024: f1(port),f2(north),f3(freo)

Gets us 2 top end picks like osullivan caddy easily match McCabe and dear and have picks for next year to use for trading for a target combined with 2025 futures.
Speaking of going down the rabbit hole with massive trades... Prepare to be... AMAZED!

I'll preface this by saying I think what happens with our 1st pick is that we either take Duursma if he's available (and I think there's a chance he might be), or we trade back with the Demons. Because I think our next target is O'Sullivan.

So say Duursma is gone, and the Demons do actually offer 6, 11, F1 for 4, F2 and we take it.
We then we have 6, 11, 44, 47,49, 61, 62. And in futures, we have our F1 and Dees F1. Lovely Jubblies.

Curtin is then likely still on the board at 6 and Freo come knocking. Coz if they don't try at this point, WC trade their 1st to get him and he has no go home factor then. Harder to get him out. But if they get in first, he's a WA boy and a Freo supporter. Could use him as a back, mid or fwd. I think they would be desperate tbh. They offer their 3x F1's (linked to Freo, Port, Pies) to us for pick 6. I'm even happy to give the Pies F2 back if they want. But 6 for Freo F1 is about par. So to get us to do it probably takes the two late future 1sts anyway.
Edit: can’t give the F2, it’s already gone to the Dees lol.

That gets us out of the top 10 this year, but bear with me.
This year: 11, 44, 47, 49, 61, 62
Next year: 5x 1st round picks (Hawks, Freo, Port, Demons, Pies)! That's what I'm talkin about!!!

Then, we can use 11 and the Pies F1st to trade with GWS to get back in to get COS. Same guy I think we were going to get anyway the pick before, but now we have an extra 2x future 1sts to go with him. So we have pick 7, McCabe and Dear this year. And 4x future 1sts next year (Hawks, Freo, Port, Demons). Now we are winning.

After that, if there is someone else we want in the 1st round we can offer a future 1st that matches depending on how high we need to get in. Or we can keep our suite of picks for next year and aim for Baz and King or whoever we want to get in. I'm McLovin it.

Okay, now I've got that off my chest I'll go back to my bourbon. Toodle pip.

Them: How about 6 and 11 for 4?
Us: No
Them: Ok, we’ll come back to you with an unequivocally worse offer which we’re confident will get it done 👍

If we are genuinely torn close to 50/50 on Watson and Curtin and the draft goes as Twomey predicts, we’d have to be a good chance to offer up our F1 to each of GWS and Geelong in an effort to get Curtin. Problem is West Coast’s F1 is more valuable.

If I was Giants or Geelong and West Coast offered F1, I’d pull the trigger very quickly. That’s a high chance to be pick 1. I’ll spew if Geelong land that gift
That is why you should have organised the swap, on the night there are too many variables, you will pay overs or not happen. If curtin slips, that club may just choose to take Curtin instead of trade with you. However, if you had already organised before, you have first right. Anyway no one has crystall ball to think exactly how things will play out.
