Nic Newman is:

15th for all defenders in terms of score involvements
27th for all defenders in terms of score launches
121st for all defenders in terms of defensive one on one loss percentage (of those who've had at least one)
60th for intercept marks
38th for intercept possessions

Which all points to having a good season but nowhere near the All Australian team.

will be unfairly left out, think that him firing in games gives melbourne lots of advantages as no one will contest the ball like he does, as others have pointed out like libratore/neale etc do, but i think both of them realistically do it better.

as for the ruck discussion i think that jarrod witts has been unfairly left out, every time i'm listening or watching the suns play he's dominating in the ruck, though i suppose his around the ground impact compared to english, marshall and gawn might be a limiting factor.
Yeah I think Viney really deserves squad at a minimum. Whether he has a case more than some of the others remains and I don't think he does just yet. But has been our most influential mid in my opinion (only because Clarry has missed like 9 games now).

Not interested in scoring shots. English 11 goals vs Gawn 10 works in Tim's favour though. The other stats are in Gawn's favour by averages, but do no offset the rest of the numbers. Leadership can't be mentioned, and won't be a factor.
How about coaches votes - surely that's a fair objective measurement. Gawn now has the most votes of any ruckman. Can't see English catching him on current form.

I just knew you'd be an essendon supporter when I saw Kyle Langford :)

Apart from Greene, give me a non Key Forward that's been better this year?

Well they'll put Petracca on a flank. Toby Greene as you said. And Charlie Cameron?
Cameron has 2 more goals and 14 more tackles I50 but 7 fewer assists, and 22 fewer score involvements. Petracca is a mid so I'm not counting him, although he's done some great things I50 over the past month.

So Cameron is a very firm "maybe" in regards to being better this year compared to Langford. 2 months ago I would have agreed but it's not clear whether or not that's true now.

The selectors should man up and put both in the side. They would play together, not compete for the same spot, in a well structured forward line.

Sam Taylor and James Sicily should both be in the team, despite missing the football they have.

How can you say you're not counting Petracca? They'll put him in the half forward line so that's 1 less spot available to a guy like Langford. Langford has had a decent season but when you're playing Essendon Langford would be an afterthought for opposition coaches in their plans, whereas all week the opposition coaches would be putting in plans to stop Cameron. He's dangerous. Langford isn't. He's a much worse version of Fritsch who made the AA squad but not the actual team last year.

They may even put butters or Rozee on the half forward line.

Also Hawkins won't be in the team, and Jordan Dawson will be in the starting 18.

Having Curnow, Walker and Hawkins all in the same forward line is a bit much.

Going to be honest, I'm struggling to understand what Harris Andrews has done this season to be in the team. Not sure he's even been the best defender for Brisbane this year.

You might be right about Petracca's placement but can't we just have the best midfielders as the starting mids? Petracca, Bontempelli and one other.

I'm personally not as a big of a fan on Petracas as others. He's significantly worse than Oliver as a mid and he torches the ball by foot. I think Bont is definitely starting mid though.

Get ready for an unpopular opinion. I think goalkicking on-ballers are worth more than the bull big-bodied midfielders so in my opinion Petracca and Bontempelli are almost wasted playing massive amounts of minutes as a mid. I'd sooner see them playing high half forward and kicking goals.

Like the Robert Harvey and Nathan Buckley days. Get 40 touches go ahead just as though they get them all at half back.

My opinion on wingers - if they were in their best 3 mids for the club they would play on ball. There are plenty mids who have a good outside game that are better players than the best winger.

Martin was very good in patches yesterday, and went missing when it counted. And that was one of his better games this year.

Realistically, he looks like he has gone one season season too long. To say he is AA, let alone captain has to be a troll.
No c'mon your better than this you saw the games yesterday Gawn dominated in the last quarter he didn't go missing we we're in front with 14mins to go than it hardly went in our forward 50.

As far as coaches' votes are concerned Stewart is now the highest placed pure defender (Sinclair still 1st for all defenders) in the competition after polling again, equal 15th in total alongside Charlie Curnow.
