A real shame Jeremy Cameron was carrying an AC joint injury for most of the year. Was on target for anything in the realm of 80-100 goals at one point prior to the season crippling injury. Would have been an absolute lock in the team

He has kicked 53 goals in 20 games…. so he’s not really even in the same hemisphere as 80-100.

It has been proven time and time again in modern footy nobody gets near 100 goals. They might average 4-5 goals for a 5-week period, but it can never be maintained as teams are just too good defensively and eventually a handful of 0-2 goals games are just around the corner.

Sicily is a 100% lock. isn't anyonne in the game who can have the same impact as he has.
Sicily's been great but Lethal was saying that the high number of uncontested marks he takes, like 19 against the Pies with no contested one suggests that teams are far too unaccountable on him.

Charlie has between 2 to 5 matches to go. He's on 75 so it's more likely than not he'll be over 80 this year. If Carlton somehow manage to make it to the end it would surely have to be on the back of some quality Curnow performances so he might be nudging 100.

And he might kick 2 this week and 2 in an EF in a loss and end up on 79. Time will tell.

Not sure if it's changed but mid season he was considered one of the least effective ball users in the league. I think it was champion data or similar
Champion Data has really struggled with the lions this year. Constantly comes up with weird ratings that just don't quite add up to how well our season is looking being top 2.

Its come up with things like the lions are bottom 6 for pressure indicators, but somehow kick most of our goals from forward turnovers. It really doesn't like our lower disposal numbers based on kicking the ball forward quickly often for a stoppage in the forward line. It rates kicking to a stoppage poorly so hates someone like Neale doing that, but we score a lot for setting up like that

Dustin Martin has to be in, but he won't be, because the selectors are about as knowledgable about footy, as the average bigfooty pundit

The experts have spoken,

“It’s frustrating when you hear people say, ‘He’s had an OK year’, but he hasn’t had an OK year, he has been frightening ... Since round 14 he’s the third-best player in the competition behind only Charlie Curnow and Jack Sinclair.”

Across the season, Martin is the fourth-highest rated forward under Champion’s 100X ratings system, behind Curnow, Toby Greene and Taylor Walker.

He ranks first among all forwards for disposals – averaging 23.1 per game – contested possessions and forward-50 ground ball gets, and fifth for score involvements.

Hoyne said the numbers were even more impressive because Martin was playing only 14 per cent of game time in the midfield.

“He plays 86 per cent of his time as a forward and he’s winning 23 disposals – that has never been done in 18 years of us capturing time in position data.

“No player who has spent 85 per cent forward time or more in a season has won more ball than Dusty has this year.”

Curnow could actually get close this year, stuff would have to go his way for match ups in the finals but if he gets Dogs in week 1, pies in week 2 and port in week 3 that could be close to 90 goals. Had at least 5 shots on goal when he played against these 3 teams in the H&A season

If Carlton didn't stink it up for half the year and Mckay didn't go down injured he would have been a good chance with his 20 odd goals vs WCE but his couple of 1-2 goal games ended any chance of getting to 100.

Dustin Martin should be a “walk-up” for this year’s All-Australian team after producing numbers never seen before by Champion Data.
But stats guru Daniel Hoyne is worried the Tigers champ will be overlooked by selectors.

“Sometimes the superstars get compared to themselves as opposed to getting compared to the competition,” the Champion Data analyst said on Pure Footy.

“He should be a walk-up – here’s your jacket, what size are you, put it on next Wednesday night.”

bringing up champion data in discussions rarely goes well. They're often used or dismissed if their numbers back up or go against a certain point someone is trying to make. I will say though their 100x ratings system needs work and also the media needs to contextualise it better. It's not these are the best players, it's these players are exceeding the expectations the most. I'm not commenting on whether Martin is in the side or not, just a mini rant on how CD is used by fans and the media.

Well sorry but people are using champion data to rate players for other stats so you can't have it both ways.

Dustin Martin has kicked 24 goals and had 14 goal assists this year. That puts him at equal 44th in the AFL this year of those combined.

Why won’t you comment on Dustin Martin making the AA team?

Data should be ignored, but Bigfooty pundits “eye test” overrule everything, this is the bizarro world we live in.

There is a blatant bias against Dustin Martin, if his name was Miers, we would have had the AFL Geelong mafia media, led by Wheatley, driving a frenzy to ensure he gets picked

Funny thing is, its just us his fans that would be getting annoyed, I don’t reckon he GAS.

The media hype around Miers is warranted, he has has an incredible year.

He's leading goal assists by an absolute mile - he's got 41 and the next best has 25. Almost double the 2nd placed Petracca.

Take the Richmond glassess off for a minute mate and realise there are other good players out there.

Does Dusty make AA or not?

He’s 7th in SI average. He’s involved in 31.2% of Richmond’s scores…also 7th highest in comp. So his play is constantly going on the scoreboard.

Another interesting stat is that he has played in 8 x losses … and averages 20+ disposals and 1+ goals in those losses. Only 3 players in the comp this year (Petracca, Martin and Bolton) average 20+ and 1+ in all games let alone losses.

So win or lose Martin has been elite.

Does Dusty make AA or not?
Petracca , Rozee and Greene. are locks to be slected in the team. Just need to figure out what positions are they picked. Bolton will be slelcted in the Squad, will be get in the team? Most probably will depend on team balance. Martin shlould at least get in the squad. He's had a 20& 1 season. up to now Petracca and Bolton are the others.

Will he get in the team?

Most probably not because Petracca is most likely to be selected as a HFF and he has won more ball. scored more goals and had more assits than Martin.

For the other HFF spot, if they select a more goal kicking forward they'll go with Toby. up to now he's had 56 goals 22 assists and averages nearly 18 disposals per season. Classic HF numbers.

If they select a Mid-Forward, they are more likely to select Rozee with 19 goals , 15 assists and a touch over 25 disposals a game, and a player who's had a massive impact on a the fortunes of a top 4 team.

Ultimately it comes down whether selecting Martin is more worthy than a Mid or a Mid-Fwd who's had a better season than Martin misses out.

If any Richmond player is selected it's more likely to be Bolton on the bench.
