Jake Lever is an intercept defender. You know, the ones who start the scoring chain. No club scores more from their defensive 50 than Melbourne, which is largely in part to Lever's intercept possessions. He's not a ''metres gained'' defender.

Intercept defenders are recognised across the competition as being arguably the most important defenders of all.

I'm not arguing against the quality of Lever or whether he deserves to be included in a rolling AA side of 2023. I reckon he is a very good player who has had an excellent start to 2023 and would be deserving of inclusion thus far.

I'm arguing against the poster who claimed that Sicily is a "chip sideways" all the time sort of player that racks up meaningless possessions, plays an easy role that any average player can perform and that he doesn't take on the hard kicks forward that lead to scores. The stats I used emphatically demonstrate these claims to not just be incorrect but almost a complete inversion of the reality.

After this evenings game, both Sheezel and LDU continue to put their name forward.

Curnow would have gone past Larkey so far.

And Weitering continuing his consistent season.

Probably it from North and Carlton at this early stage.

For the blues Saad would be in the team right now, if not right on the edge. Curnow a lock. Cripps not there yet but has played well enough to elevate himself if he has a few big games. Weitering in the same boat. Those are the 4 I see most likely in contention for us at this stage.

LDU a lock for North. Scheezel very close if not in the team. Larkey probably out for now based on a quiet game but he could be straight back in next week with a bag. Still very early.

Sheezel is not in there, let’s not get too hyper by the disposal count, the hurt factor isn’t there yet. LDU on the other hand, his second half of last year into this. Ooof.

Complete rubbish.

He is literally THE reason for our increased ball movement between D and F50 this season.

As important to the side as LDU at the moment.

True. But he isn't near the AA side

Zuhaar isn’t being spoken about like he should. He’s almost going at 20 disposals and 2 goals per game. If the ump pays the free he should have he had 9 shots on goal yesterday.

He’s also attending centre bounces and just generally dominating.

He is currently doing what Stringer has been meant to do for the last 6 years.

Love the way he goes about it.
An absolute bull.

That high not paid 🥹

He also has massive campaigner factor. I’m a huge fan. He’s in my AA team.

Despite Sheezel’s high disposal count and fantasy scores I’ve got him below Sinclair. I’ve watched every North and StK match and I believe Sinclair has him on hurt factor. But I’m biased.

From the Saints Sinclair, Wilkie and Wood.l make my team.

I’m gonna do that thing where a player in your team plays a great game and so you come on here and make sure everyone know he’s a lock.

Jordan Dawson.
