I don't think a guy like Wagner won't be included at his age if we drafted him.

I think he may start Round 1 on the wing.
Only of he is good enough. They're not gonna play him if other options are performing better than him, would still be decent depth.

Erasmus and Johnson looking at playing a third season in the WAFL - This is high risk of stunting their development or losing them to WCE.

Fine line we're walking here imo.
We've gone past the rebuild phase where we needed to pump games into the next generation. The club definitely needs to show young players what their pathway to the best 22 is, and it needs to keep their development moving along. But in the end their form needs to place them at the front of the queue.

If Erasmus really is a replacement for Fyfe then he has a problem. But he may push for Brodie's spot, a run on the wing, or perhaps a forward/mid rotation.

I liked the report indicating Johnson looked good returning to training. I don't think he can complain about lack of opportunity this season, and a wing spot has opened right up for him with Acres gone, and Cerra the previous year. If he's good enough he'll play.

If either of them kick goals that should be a big tick.

Knock the door down lads.

Whilst I still have Brodie and Switowski in my best 22 at this stage, I fully expect Erasmus and Johnson to put pressure on and possibly displace respectively potentially the second half of this season.

Erasmus in particular I expect will make major inroads; I think you only have to see his results on the running track coming back after the first break to see a sign of the direction that he will take. Whilst Brodie has been great on the burst, Erasmus is a running machine and I think his handballs are almost just as fast and dangerous as Brodies; this will also allow us to take a more aggressive approach up forward. Theoretically he is a good fit to do some back up running on the wing as well.

The standout statistic for Johnson this season was his tackling numbers at WAFL, and if Switowski goes down injured again and Johnson keeps that up, having a guy that is super fast, tackles hard, and can deliver well into the forward fifty but is also 190cm+ will look good as a replacement to the selection panel as the replacement role for the forward line with bursts through the middle. I don't think that he will be competition for the wing position (yet) however; I still think that will be Aish, Serong (was playing there at times this season) / Brayshaw alternating with O'Meara, with maybe Henry and Wagner the next two options.

Only second season BTW. Both first year players last year.Johnson injured for first part of last season and Erasmus got a run , So the issue is?

Loved will Brodie last season but man its tough to see him holding his spot all season without adding some strings to his bow
What Will did was extract the ball from a forest of oppo hands time and again, like no other player.

But how can our wonderfully talented team win more Centre Bounce clearances? Been watching games ad nauseam and so often see the oppo teams snatching the quick takeaway to goal, when it should've been Freo.

Andy & Caleb are magic but should either of them alternate more, with a bigger teammate, at the centre bounce?

Fyfe is a big unknown, but he has the capacity to play forward, whereas Brodie rotates to the pine.

O'Meara has better defensive abilities than Mundy who he effectively replaces.

Those are improvements.

Brashaw to the wing and move a bigger body in.

He’s the Michael Barlow. He have enough to his bow. Jaegar will be competing with Fyfe for midfield/forward.
Brayshaw/Serong/Brodie. Perfect
IMO Brodie will improve having Fyfe and JOM in the team, with 5 genuine inside mids they each only need to spend a maximum of 60% game time in the middle which will halp Brodie stay fresh both in game and throughout the season. Last year we only had 4 rotations in Mundy, Brayshaw, Brodie and Serong, with chop outs from Aish and Switowski.

Brayshaw Serong and Brodie, good and young as they are, I wouldn’t describe as perfect. I hope JLo has been watching the last game against the Pies in that semi on repeat all break. Solve how Crisp and DeGoey gave our mids that spanking and we go a long way to winning that game next year.
Fyfe, Jaegar and the Unicorn I hope are going to be the missing links to the puzzle. JOM in particular I think could be the guy who prevents those crucial front side breakaways out of the centre that were so harmful in our losses.
So much to look forward to, I wish it was starting now!

B Ryan Cox Chapman
HB Young Pearce Clark
C O’Driscoll Brodie Aish
HF Fyfe Jackson Fredrick
F Schultz Taberner Walters
FOLL Darcy Serong Brayshaw
I/C- O’Meara, Switkowski, Amiss, Henry
Sub- Erasmus
This is very similar to what I consider our best 22 but I think we need Walker to cover the opposition quick small forwards. He got a touch up in the semi final loss but hopefully it makes him a better player in the long run.

I'm with you Piggy.

There will be a defender on the bench, the obvious change Walker for Henry, but with so much potential for development things could change rapidly.

weird question but what would walker look like at the centre bounce. strong and fast. or does he lack the midfield craft. he is very good one on one

Interesting one. Probably doesn't have the nous for it, but it'd be a delight watching him sprint away from the middle with ball in hand. Dude is fast and his delivery i50 is very underrated too

I hope it’s not the case, but if I was Walker I’d be very concerned about the recruitment of Wagner, they both play the same position but Wagner is older and can run all day. I must confess I’m not sure how good Wagner is at locking down on small defenders.
