SATURDAY DOUBLE HEADER SOLD OUT

‘GATHER ROUND…. A FESTIVAL OF FOOTY’

The AFL is pleased to announce Tickets for the 2023 Toyota AFL Premiership Season Gather Round Double-Header – Essendon v Melbourne & Port Adelaide v Western Bulldogs on Saturday, April 15 2023 at Adelaide Oval are currently exhausted.

This follows the previously announced sell out of Brisbane Lions vs North Melbourne at Adelaide Hills (Summit Sports and Recreation Park, Mount Barker).

Three of the nine matches in ‘Gather Round’ are now sold out.

Over 129,000 tickets have been sold across the four-day footy festival with 35% of tickets coming from interstate, totalling 45,000.

Tickets for all matches at the Thursday night, Friday night, and Sunday double header at Adelaide Oval and Norwood Oval are still available for Club & AFL Members and the general public via Ticketek.

Corporate Hospitality packages remain available through the AFL Event Office at afl.com.au/eventoffice

All competing club access members will get free entry to their club’s match, while non-competing members and general public tickets are capped at a single price of $30 for adults, $20 concession (15-18 years old) and kids (under 15) are FREE at all matches.

Tickets are not tiered or classified, so prices are capped for all matches in any seat in the venue and for all matches at the Adelaide Oval multi-day discounted passes will be available.

Demand for AFL tickets soars​

The AFL expects Richmond v Carlton to sell out by Friday amid massive demand for round 1 seats that has Victorian general admission sales up 244 per cent on the same time in 2019.
But the league has made the decision not to bring forward the traditional 7.50pm Friday start time to an earlier slot despite strong feedback from fans.

The league started the 2022 season with a backdrop of Covid hesitancy from fans, who also complained about a flexible fixture and lack of plastic membership cards.

It has listened to those concerns and maintained a price freeze for the fifth year in a row, locked in the fixture for 15 rounds and decided against any rule changes.

AFL executive Travis Auld told the Herald Sun the league believed those changes had helped unprecedented demand for tickets that has already seen general admission tickets for Anzac Day sell out.

The league expects the last remaining tickets for the Richmond-Carlton season opener to be snapped up in the next 24 hours, hopeful of a crowd above 90,000 at the MCG.

Already the league has sold more than 200,000 tickets across the MCG and Marvel Stadium for round 1 games.

Looks like reasonable crowd at Fremantle oval for pre season game v. Port, especially given the 4:10pm Thursday start time.

Haven’t the Lions created a great venue up there? Well done to them. There’s a few clubs in Victoria that should be wondering why some of the funding for brilliant ‘facilities’ weren’t directed to ensuring the site was fan friendly. Great outcome.

Looks like Carlton Richmond is sold out. Geelong Collingwood seems weird; no seats available beside GA. I don’t think they’ve sold many reserved seats on the top level of the Olympic, or any on the top level of ponsford. Perhaps they’re allowing for a lot of Collingwood away ga members and Geelong home ga members?

True - though they'll still need a significant increase on last year's average (even with the additional round) to hit 7m. Anyway, I'll up the ante and say that the home and away average will be higher than the 2019 average (35,122).

Looked like the biggest crowd ever yesterday at Casey Fields 8500 was mentioned on TV!

According to some reports the opening round could set a new record (400,401.set in 2017) as ticket sales so far have been strong.

Maybe. The one to disappoint could be Hawthorn / Essendon. Other than being round 1, both sets of supporters enter the match with low expectations. And in Essendon’s case, an underwhelming couple of early season hit outs which won’t help their fans want to go out of their way and pay to attend this away fixture.

I think it will do ok. Ticketek isn’t the most reliable indicator but it looks like it will be a decent turnout.

I’m interest in Dees/Dogs. 58k on a Wednesday was pretty good. But now they’re no longer premiers. Although this time it’s a much better timeslot, and both teams are confident heading into 2023.
