Are afl member and MCC tickets sold out for pies vs cats yet?

AFL Members weren't this morning - around 3-4 bays which had yet to sell the back third of the top deck, plus I assume they haven't put standing room on sale yet either.

Slightly disappointing, hopefully if it doesn’t improve the crowd is still in the 80s

The area is effectively 95% sold. As Underarm said, this equates to only a few hundred seats left. Even allowing for no-shows, it will almost certainly be over 80% full. We just need the other areas of the ground to do the same. Getting to 80k and beyond will be mostly dependent on the club members showing up and filling their seats.

Interesting to see the email from Collingwood today about the changes to our seating arrangements at the G from next year onwards.

Mainly because it specifically states that our MCG agreement is for 9 home games and 5 away games - which has always been my issue with it.

It distorts the fixture too much, means that Hawthorn, Carlton, Essendon, Richmond & Melbourne are virtually gifted home games every single year against us. The only time one of these teams misses out is when Geelong get fixtured at the G as their home game, which they state they don't actually want.

It also means North, St Kilda and the Bulldogs can only have 1 home game between them against us every year, which simply isn't fair.

Anyway, good on Collingwood for managing to continue the deal in the face of opposition and giving up very little to the other tenants. We’ve essentially just moved some seats from Level 2 to Level 4 in the Ponsford when we play Richmond and Hawthorn and retained everything else.

Alot of mcc reserved seats left.

The back 15 rows are unsold across about 10 bays on the top level. That’s about 3700 seats according to my maths, plus mcc general admission on level 1.
I honestly recon this crowd might fall a touch short of 80k for some reason. Hoping I’m wrong but it’s giving me 78-82k vibes

Yes, very much a win for Collingwood.

I wonder how this affects home clubs ability to sell tickets and generate revenue. You would think it would severely harm their ability and if the MCC subsidise them because of this.

ohh you poor thing.

I guess for fairness you could only play ANZAC Day every second year when you are the home team, and give up King's Birthday all together?

Yes, my post calling out all parties for continuing a deal that specifically benefits the big clubs while screwing over the smaller ones was definitely complaining about Collingwood’s treatment. Excellent comprehension skills.

But since you brought up King’s Birthday let’s talk about how Melbourne apparently has a divine right to have a home game against Collingwood.

1928, 1955, 1990 & 1999 - these are the only years in the history of the competition where Melbourne hasn’t had a home game against Collingwood.

The Queen/King’s Birthday game is only responsible for a few years, and since we started alternating hosting it, Melbourne has been given a double up whenever it’s been our turn to host.

Meanwhile, North has had 3 non Covid home games against us since 2009. Not much to ask to make this disparity a little less, is it?

You aren't calling out all the big clubs, you are calling out the big clubs minus Collingwood because it doesn't matter to Collingwood whether you are the away team vs Hawthorn or North at the MCG.

So would you be willing to give up two away games at the MCG so North and St Kilda could host you at Docklands?

I'm guessing you wouldn't. If you are then I tip my hat to you for wanting things more fair.

I’ve been clear before that I want us to play all home games at the G and then the away games are free to be wherever, including Geelong at KP etc. I would also very much like to play more games against the Docklands tenants and not play the same teams twice every year. An acceptable compromise within the agreement would be to play at least one of the Docklands tenants at the G as their home game (if they wanted it).

And I was calling out Collingwood. We obviously specifically negotiated this agreement in the first place (and now renewed it) because it does benefit us. Playing bigger clubs as away games is preferable to the club because they are more likely to be free to air or in prime timeslots, which makes us more valuable to sponsors. We also sell those reserved seats at away games which locks in more members at higher prices. It’s good business from Collingwood but I personally don’t think it’s the right way to go.

One further concession from Collingwood is giving up the function rooms on Level 2 when we are the away team. They are probably worth quite a bit in match day revenue and may have been a key objective of the other clubs.

Also just noticed this tucked away in the announcement:

”- Please note: The Club will officially request and lobby the AFL to avoid fixturing an away game against both Richmond and Hawthorn in the same season moving forward.”

If this is successful it is either bad news for Geelong, who will have to be the 5th game, or {fingers crossed} a Docklands tenant might actually get one.

Yeah this is what kind of annoys opposition supporters, Collingwood already have by far the best fixture yet always want more and more, now 11 home games a year at the G.

The investment in Docklands has been made by all clubs in the competition, yet Carlton and Essendon are the ones that have been 'selected' as the ones to bankroll it. Both want at least 8 home games at the G and both have been told all they are getting is 6. Carlton have been requesting this for over a decade now.

So Collingwood shouldn't be playing more home games at the G, they should be playing more home games at Docklands, as should Richmond, Melbourne and Hawthorn when their Tassie deal runs out.

Time to contribute guys :)

Valid points, but makes very little difference to you as a fan, clubs are either financially viable or they aren't, and Collingwood have no issues in that regard.

Melbourne should always host KB. Collingwood wormed their way into this public holiday game by making out they were doing the greatest thing ever in the history of the world by allowing a struggling club to host it.

Wouldn't surprise me if Geelong alternated being the home team vs Hawks and Collingwood each year.

Could also have Collingwood be away to St Kilda at the G, then home at Docklands.

Crowd predictions:
Pies vs cats-81k(would hit 85k if member turnout is 95% full)
North vs dons-38k
Swans vs suns-31k
Lions vs crows-30k
Blues vs dees-68k
Eagles vs freo-53k
Hawks vs dogs-12k
Saints vs tigers-39k
Port vs gws-31k

The start times for the Sydney Swans match and Melbourne-Carlton have been slightly changed due to the Matilda’s quarterfinal match on Saturday

Interesting how far this has come from deliberately releasing the fixture at 6am in the morning when the Socceroos were in the World Cup…

All for it, work together and better outcomes for all.

"Deliberately" ?

As in they had an agreement on that day with the Herald Sun and went ahead with it?

Anyway, I am sure this will end the paranoia soccer folks have against the AFL

More likely that the country has a lot more love for the Matildas than the Socceroos, especially when the tournament is being held in Australia.
