GWS barely getting a bump vs Blacktown with that Henson Park crowd. I'm not sure where else they could possibly play ohter than their main stadium at the Showground, but they probably need to be playing further west than Henson if it's not boosting their numbers much.

Appears to be an approx 50%-70% increase on the Richmond game and West Coast games at Blacktown. It's also an increase of 35% of the Giants v Carlton game last year on the 01/10/2022 at Henson Park.

Pre-covid, 3,823 attended the Giants v Carlton game at Blacktown in 2019 so it's quite possible to get higher numbers out at Blacktown.

Guess it depends whether you prefer to look at a few hundred people more in percentage terms, or as a quantity. Must admit I was looking at it as more of the latter.

It was still free entry in 2019

Really feels like WA seems to be letting the league down. Interesting to see how Alberton crowds go once the redevelopment is finished. GWS are probably better suited to playing games at Henson Park, seem to get better crowds there as opposed to Blacktown.
I can't speak for West Coast, but Freos crowd was down because it was a midday start. Terrible time for a game, especially at Freo oval, where most of the crowd is forced into the open side.

Some games are still free as well. Would depend on the venue, teams etc. If it is still much hassle, then it is just easier to let the gates open.

Swans get the win against Collingwood in front of their largest home crowd 5722 – a very healthy crowd at Henson Park.

Who said AFLW football doesn't have a good following in Sydney and their crowds are putting to shame some of the traditional teams in Melbourne.

They certainly are. The Swans have done a terrific job. They’ve always had a strong female presence at their AFL games, pretty sure I read somewhere their proportion of total members being female has historically been as high as any club in the AFL. They’ve done a great job extending this innate support to their women’s matches. They also have the highest membership too(?). Certainly worth unpacking how they’ve done it.

The big Victorian clubs by comparison I think are doing a pretty ordinary job at driving attendances and membership. Of these, maybe I’m biased but Essendon probably doing the best of the big 4 clubs, succeeding in building a great team culture in their second season led by their Essendon supporting stars in Prespskis and Toogood. They’ve also put a lot of effort in building the connection between the team and Windy Hill using past legends (Simon Madden) to promote connection to the club and driving attendances which is proving effective. Fans being urged to ‘fill the hill’. The atmosphere at Windy Hill this year has been great with 3,812 there yesterday a promising crowd but still room for growth for sure.

The_Wookie have we seen a final 2023 AFLW membership breakdown? I know the Hawks (5,706) achieved a record and a great figure. IMG_9473.jpeg IMG_9472.jpeg IMG_9469.jpeg

It's funny, the swans are the biggest sporting club in Sydney despite all the b.s media that comes out of there.

Whatever they're doing is working, only the Crows come close to their support levels at games. They deserve a home final.

Seen quite a few sources make lots of mistakes with the crowd numbers this year. Adelaide v Essendon was 3238 (not 2238), Essendon v St Kilda was 3915 (not 3195), Adelaide v North was 3632 (not 3362)... I could go on.

Closing out the AFLW 2023 home and away season is around 10.

Here are the teams home game averages for the season.

View attachment 1847190

Crowds overall improved on last year when you back out the 4 games played at big stadiums (including a curtain raiser at the MCG)

All four of the teams that saw a 1K plus decrease in average crowds were also the 4 teams that hosted games at the MCG, Marvel, AO or Perth Stadium.

Every team except the Giants and maybe West Coast had an improvement in average home attendance
