Fair point, but nobody can escape the fact that this women's soccer game here drew a bigger tv audience than the AFL and NRL grand final put together.

Nobody should be making more of it than it is either. The numbers are great for the World Cup - but they are great for a reason and well above the expected level for womens sport, especially womens soccer.

This was aimed at you too

The information is widely known here already. Cut the crap. We both know why you posted. And everyone is tired of it.
I don't struggle with independent links
I was just posting an independent link, as i couldn't see one.
If one had already been posted i wouldn't have had to post it

Geech, showcases how stupidly high the Tillys were.

Ashes were 1.4mil in the highest session. The Mens tennis Aus Open final was 1.3M(metro). Would any other sport get over 1 million? (excluding the above ones)

Was it it posted elsewhere then on this thread?
I posted something very similar on the 2nd.

Ange refers to it as football in Australia, w***er journalist keeps calling it Australian football. At least if you are a sports journalist, know what sport you are referring to ffs.
Yes there is only one real AUSTRALIAN Football played in Australia and it ain't the pommie imports of RL,Soccer and RU
and BTW just like the US it will always be Soccer in Australia.

I don't see anyone calling soccer American Football in the US.

Rd 7 AFLW crowds, once again, well done by the Swans.

The Swans are getting terrific crowds. Swans fans, what’s your clubs secret to having the highest crowds and membership? I’m genuinely interested as they are well above where they should be relsteky doeajibg.

On the other games, I might be in minority but only ~3,000 for two big Victorian blockbusters in a decent stadium in the centre of town is pretty disappointing. I’m sure these games should be drawing closer to 5,000 for the game to be happy. The Dreamtime one had decent promotion behind it, Saturday night and all that, it was poor imo.

I think it's a combo of:

  • Having a lot of women fans just to begin with. It's old data but according to 2010 ABS spectator attendance survey, 47% of attendees at Australian Football in NSW were women vs 42% in the footy states. Not a massive difference but it's something.
  • The club promoting them hard including having locked in the largest women's membership base before the team even entered
  • Women's footy probably vibing really well with a relatively progressive supporter base overall
  • Henson Park being a great venue positioned right in the heart of the supporter base and North Sydney Oval being nice too
If it keeps happening I hope the league take note and look to lean into it with fixturing and promotion, and see if there's things some other clubs could take from it.

Yes the Henson Ground is very good for the AFLW and looks good on TV.

I doubt for the foreseeable future that any AFLW side will consistently draw 5000 for H&A matches.

I dont think any womens league in the world does that...

okay, 3 do. US Basketball(5.5K), US Soccer(8K) and English Soccer(5.5K)

The WBBL feels like they get bigger crowds up in Sydney. They do have good stadiums for it. Sydney has the largest fan base in the AFL, even if a lot of them are very casual. That could help. But it really seems like a trend now.

difference is in Australian Football or Australian football. Its literally the capitialisation of the F. Not a federal issue

BBLW last night at NSO went down the last ball. Great game, but playing midweek means sub 1k crowds.

Amazing 7 put this on their main channel nationally in prime time, yet barely put the footy on the main channel in Sydney and Brisbane. What do you think it rated? It didnt even get in the top 20 shows nationally from what i can see. Not that I have an issue with it, but the double standards out of 7 Sydney HQ are pretty poor.

It did not present well on TV. Low crowd and patchy lighting. Looked like an NRL game.
