Clarry’s decision making and indiscriminate long bombing was an issue last night but I’d safely place 15 names before his on a list of ineptness. He had a genuine crack as he always does.

Viney had his worst game of the year. Absolute ghost he was. Where’s your criticism of him?

Any top 5 ‘worst on for us’ list that doesn’t include the names TMac, JVR & Chandler can immediately be binned.
Effort and output.

TMc we know what to expect, so judgement is tempered by that. And his best footy is outside f50 then coming back with the play.

van Rooyen had his lessons read to him out loud. Get bigger son, and quick. but again he is not an out and out high flier. hes a bit like TMc mobile high forward, who will crash a pack, back doesn't hold a lot of them.
Just a boy.

Chandler, Picket, van Rooyen, are all just kids, with little experience... and van Rooyen is also playing ruck.

Oliver is very well experienced by now, and he was hiding a lot behind Pendlebury's shirt at stoppages.

We had a lot of players off they're games from early on, but they continued to front up and play the way they normally do. Even if a bit off.

Who would you take if we just have the one selection (5) in the top 10? Assuming Curtin, McKercher, Duursma and possibly Sanders are off the table by our pick.
O'Sullivan before Sanders for sure. I'd take O'Sullivan before Curtin. I love the look of O'Sullivan. But you missed Watson in that mix. I'd look at him too.

What do you see in O'Sullivan? Only footage I've seen of him he looked pretty shaky and got outbodied easily.

It would be a very big call to pick a 170cm small forward (and let’s not kid ourselves that’s where Watson would be playing 95% of the time during his first 3-4 seasons) over a long term key defensive lynchpin.

With the shambolic state of our current forward line the choice may already be made for us.

I’d be moving heaven and earth to try and get both.

I agree
But it's like saying do we want Jack Watts or Jamie Elliott. I'll back the talent in Watson.

When Paul Roos in charge before the McCartin Petracca draft, he was asked about Melbourne selecting McCartin in with pick 2 and he answered basically saying “we’ll be drafting midfielders with our top picks as they are a surer thing, Key position players are hit or miss, we’ll draft midfielders and trade for key position players after they are already established in the league”

And that’s basically what Melbourne did, drafted Petracca, Brayshaw, Oliver. Weideman was a miss, traded for Lever, May and Brown who were key position players during our premiership.

With a rare top 5 pick I’d prefer a midfielder.

We need goals immediately or no chance at flag. I think it’s as simple as that.

Wizard Watson … come on down.

Can I ask a stupid question?

Would any of you trade the future for the now? If Essendon said we'd give you Peter Wright and Dylan Shiel and we'd cover 80% of their wage would you consider trading Jefferson and pick 5?

Maybe you'd only want Wright but I think Shiel next to your big mids would be good.

I think Peter Wright would round out your list and really give you what you need in the forward 50 and we get some more rebuild pieces.

We all know this would never happen but wanted to ask. Anyway, hope you beat them next week as well.

I would definitely consider it.

Why would you trade out 2MP for a speculative tall in Jefferson who’s a 50/50 chance to be a bust?

Shiel a bit more problematic because we already have a full drawer of ball butchers in midfield. However I do still rate him. He would start on a wing in our 22.

Who are you eyeing off at pick 5?

I don't like our list build, I don't think we will challenge in the next 5 years, so Wright probably doesn't fit in our next window.

I could be wrong, but I think we need a harder rebuild, 5 and Jefferson add to it. I'd probably consider any of Sanders, Watson or Caddy.

We need as much talent as possible and the top end of the draft is the place to be I guess.

I sort of explained that in the post, I expected that type of response for him. I guess Shiel for 100k a season might be ok on the list. Key piece is Peter Wright, does he out of your goalsquare in 2024 and 25 give you a chance at a flag more so than pick 5 and Jefferson?
Peter Wright has had 1 very good season and a lot of meh. Pick 5 would be the absolute most you'd pay for him and even then I'm skeptical.

That's fair. In most cases I'd say 5 was probably overs, this trade would be about opportunity, risk vs reward.

It's all come from me thinking teams should be more aggressive in terms of trading, Melbourne have a great draft hand and a need a forward, if Oscar Allan was available I'm sure you'd offer 5, 15, F1st and maybe more.

Just a random thought.

Still capable of bags of 3, 4 or the occasional 5 every two or three weeks. That would be a huge upgrade on what we’ve currently got. Still only 27yo too. Might kick 50-60 in a top 4 side.

Hypothetical but I’d roll the dice on 2MP in our flag window, with Shiel an upgrade on Hunter.

The Australian is saying that the Swans are set to swoop on Grundy. Let's say in theory we offered our 1st if you pay some of his salary, would you guys take that?

Surely cap space isn't an issue for you guys with Buddy retiring
