Jasper Fletcher kicked 3 on the weekend in the qualifying final.
The last midfielder we added to the side was Tom Sparrow in 2019.
Our midfield has been the exact same for 4 years.

Brisbane have added
Fletcher, Rayner, Neale, Ashcroft and Dunkley in that time

Our teams just felt stagnant
Part of the reason I'm so keen on McKercher/Duursma. Desperately need to add some young talent to the mix.

Do you think Sweet would nominate Port fi Grundy had indicated his intentions to join? No chance

If he retired over something like concussion we'd be stupid not to pay him out in full tbh. You can get that money moved outside the cap for medical reasons such as this though.

The AFL are in that much strife over future concussion lawsuits that clubs won't be made to wear the full impact of paying out players forced to retire due to concussion. They can't risk having a situation where clubs could be perceived to have a vested interest in encouraging players to play on when they shouldn't.

I'd be expecting a large pot of money put aside by the AFL for exactly these type of cases and doubt any of it will come from within salary cap.

Yep. You can't just say 'well we've got plenty of midfielders' so not draft any new ones, or wait until you've got holes in the list before bringing in new talent.

Improvement comes from better talent forcing out 'decent' role players.

Mind you Brisbane are very lucky to have had access to Ashcroft and Fletcher at the same time.

During the Hibbo retirement speech when it panned to the team I was thinking how many of these guys wont be here next season it seems the team will look very different in 2024. Melksham and Tmac may go around for one more though.

Would've been happy to carry Melk for half a season of rehab if we hadn't wasted a list spot with Schache.
Really hope Tmac doesn't go around again, what's the point.

Yep, we've had a few HBFs and HFFs coasting by with no competion for years

They should be chasing Curtin or O'Sullivan

Exactly. Dogs desperately need tall defenders. Would be mindblowing if they chose Watson over Curtin or O'Sullivan.
They’ve taken so many talls in recent drafts (and will again with Croft) I don’t think they can afford to go tall again.

They need to trade out some existing height for that defensive post and bring some kids in who can run.

Can see them taking Watson or Sanders for sure if they get GCs pick.

With ball in hand Watson was as incisive and damaging as ever, but he has been struggling a little to find the footy and hit the scoreboard in recent weeks. With his Ranges team progressing through to the prelim final, he'll have another chance to remind everyone of his elite talent this weekend.

Absolutely. I don't mind Sparrow for example but you can't say either a promising young mid or a specialist goal kicking forward wouldn't have improved the team in his spot.

Same for trading Salem for a better defender and/or attacking half back.

That was not great.

Looks a pure forward definitely not a mid option. Would want to be performing a lot better than that in the prelim to be considering him top 10.

Same with Spargo
Lauries just crap and is a sub.

Even Langdon is lucky to be getting a game ATM, he's been next to useless for a long time

But there's is absolutely nothing underneath to take their spots. Our list depth is horrible

It would definitely be a mistake to overlook a draftee we rate just because his best position might be wing. Would be ideal to have a winger who is a much better kick. If we drafted McKercher for example I'd be starting him on a wing.

Some articles are saying Grundy said no because Ports standards are too high for him. Personally I believe this is BS as Sydney has pretty high standards considering we have only missed the finals 3 times in the last decade and a bit.

20 years actually.
Pitched life outside the footy bubble plus opportunities for Rachael. I suspect Port underestimated the importance of Grundy's partner in the decision. Typical Hinkley.

Looks like chompers is on the move as well this off-season, with Sydney linked as a potential suitor.

Is there a world where it's a package deal of Grundy, Harmes & P24 for there P11?

It'd be nice, but that's a bucketload of salary for Sydney to take on in a deal where they're also parting with their top pick.

Can't see Harmes getting much of a crack in their midfield – Mills, Parker, Warner, Gulden, Rowbottom, Sheldrick and Papley would all be given preference you'd think. Essendon probably makes the most sense for him.

Officially requested a trade to the Dees.

HF: Petracca - Petty - Pickett (ANB)
FF: Fritsch - van Rooyen - McAdam (Chandler)

That's a decent enough forward group to work with next year. If we could add a solid forward/ruck like Chol, I'd be more than comfortable with that. Bigger priority then would be getting some young midfield talent through the door.

It's a pretty good starting 6, but unless they are super confident Jefferson is going to come on - which seems up in the air atm - I'd be keen to take another KPF this draft if there's someone Taylor likes.

There's a pretty decent chance at any given time one of Petty or JVR could be injured, plus long term there's no guarantee either of them makes it as AFL forwards. So best to get started asap developing the next options.

Or Grundy and our future 1st, for Swans P11.?
......

What would we have to offer North, for they're potential P3.?
