Player comparisons are always stupid and irrelevant. Quoting some pundit’s opinion is equally useless. From the available vision that I’ve watched, his disposal is good (not great) in space - and below average under pressure. I do think he has above average footy IQ and is a very team oriented player. His greatest strength by far is his running power - everything else is good to poor.

Agree, have seen experts also knock his kicking as well so cherry picking one specific expert to quote is redundant. Agree on kicking, except I have seen a lot of dump kicks as well aka Jayden Hunt style in vision I have seen.

Not a fan of trading next years first round pick.

Zak Butters and Ben King are two in particular that are out of contract next year that would cost a 1st round pick as a starting point.

Don't do it Dees.

Yep, think we regress a bit in 2024 and could be a real egg on face moment if we do it. I know every time we’ve done it in the past it has paid off, but it feels like we’d be throwing it away to overpay this year.

I think the price has gone up significantly since we started doing it, was never two firsts of one.

I’d be disappointed if we gave up next years first to move pick 11 to pick 8.

That’s a lot to give up and I think we should keep next years first as we will probably be searching for a KPF to trade in.
Absolutely this. Would be livid if we traded our future first with one of our other first rounders unless it was for pick 4 or a package for Reid.

We must have been watching different games. I think his disposal under pressure is at worst good. Sure there are some dump kicks and kicks that sail a bit, but you'll see that with almost every player when kicking under pressure, his hands and decision making under pressure are excellent, saw it numerous times where he was plotted his next move in advance of giving the first handball under pressure and would run to the right spot to receive the give and go and turn a 50/50 situation into a counter attack.

The only real knock ive got on him is his kicking on his left foot is weak, but in today's game that is pretty much standard with the majority of players.

I think Jason Gram is a somewhat decent player comparison, that is his floor, but I think his ceiling is higher than that, hes got some very good upside.
That’s all pretty fair - I agree with you on turning those 50/50’s into attacks- which is why I described him as having a good footy IQ. The kicking under pressure, or perceived pressure or often just in tight spaces worries me though. He looks to me to rush it onto his boot and as a result make poor contact.

Overall, I’m probably being too critical and that might have more to do with just missing out on the top tier of players in this draft who I really, really like.

Cal Twoomey mentioned Windsor has a very light frame and unlikely to play in the firsts much in 2024

Name me a winger with a heavy frame....and Bowey played in a premiership his first year weighing less than 70 kegs.

Yeah, not selecting Curtin kind of sucks but Iike I said previously I think we must have our reasons to pass on him re: home sickness... I think Windsor is in the tier below Reid, McKercher, Duursma and Curtin so it's not as horrible a reach as some are making it out to be. Personally, I prefer Leake most out of the next tier but I can live with Windsor cause at least he's a difference maker in an area we are severely lacking in on our list. All the guys in Windsor's tier have faults you could pick out with each of their games.

You could find faults in any ones game at that age, they're just learning still lol

185/74 really isn't that small for an 18-year-old winger. Give him an AFL preseason and he'll be at 76-78, and you wouldn't want him to get too much heavier than that if he's primarily playing outside and has pace as his biggest strength.

Look at someone like Rozee for example – he's been in the system five years, plays inside a lot now and is still only 185/79. He gets by just fine. If Windsor was 65kgs, sure, but 74 really isn't that small.

Windsor kind of reminds me a bit of Darcy Parish in his junior years.

Havnt seen that comparison anywhere though - anyone else see that or is just me?

Don't really see it tbh. Parish was never overly quick, and his disposal was always an issue.

A shorter, better kicking version of Max Holmes would be more of an accurate comparison imo.

Though even then, he takes more marks than someone like Holmes. Hard to nail down a comparison tbh, the dream would be him developing into a Whitfield type (sans the body made of tissue paper).

I'm not too fussed about how much he plays next year anyway, tbh. Looking at picks around the mark who would likely play a bunch of senior footy for us next year:
  • O'Sullivan - very unlikely unless there's injuries.
  • Caddy - unlikely, though not impossible.
  • Watson - yes, small forward is an easier position to play as a youngster.
  • Leake - would probably have him hone in on a regular position at Casey first.
  • Curtin - maybe? Though you couldn't really play a backline with Curtin, May, Lever and Tomlinson, and Curtin won't be able to take on big, seasoned AFL forwards just yet.
  • Sanders - AFL-ready, but would likely waste away on a half-forward flank for us initially.
That being said, if Windsor has a good preseason, hopefully he knocks a Langdon, Salem, Sparrow (with Rivers playing up the ground) or even Hunter (though I like him) out of the team.

Fan of all those except O’Sullivan for pick 6.

Anyway let’s see how it plays out. Hopefully this isn’t another JT Weiderman or Laurie inspired pick.

I love how you keep bringing these two up and neglecting that he drafted the likes of Oliver, Fritsch, Jackson, Pickett, Rivers, Bowey, JVR, Petty, McVee etc, all of which were far from consensus picks at the time.

Was actually first time I mentioned those 2…Rivers was a slider, more than the concensus pick for him.
