Without the points discount we couldn't have drafted all three of Logan, Campbell and Gulden.
So, as a Swans supporter, if the discount was gone, I would REALLY MISS IT

It is fairer across the board and we won’t have situations like this year with GC.

The criteria for 'best available' must include 'best list fit'

After 3 mid/flankers - 0 KPP drafted last year, and 4 mid/flankers - 0 KP in 2021 (Rankin de-listed already)
Our best academy option is another mid, and looks likely to be again next year
Plus more midfielders in father/son options Leo Barrys kid, and Indhi Kirk (tho the draft talk on Barry has dried up and Kirk was of course passed over last year)

Surely we look for genuine key position players with our live selections.

Rather not try and trade pick 12 up, we do not need immediate impact from anyone we draft, it also seems consensus among draft watchers that the likely available options after the first dozen are of a similar level, so we should pretty much do the same as last year, try and turn 12 and 45 into say 18 and 35 while hopefully gaining an extra selection or two for next year

If they do bring in trading draft picks for salary cap (which would be awful) we could benefit as we shouldn't need to draft more than the minimum for a while now, just supplement with free agents.

He's getting outshone by McLean at the end of last year so hope he kicks on really quickly.
In fairness to McDonald, McLean was 24 at the end of this year. He started to really come into his own and look the part of the big man up forward.

McDonald as a 21 year old is still a few years away from that. If they're comparable at all at this stage then it bodes well for McDonald.

That's fair, when I look at the King brothers Logan seems off their mark, but it may be just my perception of their highlights.

Hasn’t helped that we’ve had mids kicking it to a certain Bud all game long the last 2 years. Was better once he went out of the side.

Very hope this is Logan’s year

I come in peace. Hypothetically speaking Eagles have pick 1 next year and Logan wants to come back to Perth and refuses to play for Fremantle because no one wants to play for Fremantle. Which WA boys (if any) would you begrudgingly send along with Logan for pick 1?
None of them. It would be Pick 1 + other picks for Logan and picks.

Along with? Say what! I’d barely send Logan alone for it. As for the WA kids it’s not going to be any of the Warner boys or Gus.

Firstly I doubt Logan will want to return to either Freo or Eagles when he can play a key role in a side playing finals and hang with his mates.
A more likely scenario is that his manager will get him signed on good coin up to free agency.
That said, Logan is at this stage worth more than pick 1. Pick 1 plus F1 perhaps? If not maybe Pick 1, Pick 2 and F2.

If he really wants to desperately return to Perth and the choice was either your club or Freo i think he would probably retire.

Anyone think horse wanted James Jordan so kineear wouldn’t pick a flanker with pick 12??

They will still pick best available. As we always say, best available and trade for needs. We’ve literally plugged every hole via trades. If there is a KPP defender or FWD that is “best available” we will take them if not don’t be shocked if we go small

CAPITALS needed

Sheldrick is going to be really good.

Hayward and Florent will both end 250+ game players.
I mean, for most of the last 20 years our first rounders have been in the mid-teens. Towers was technically our first rounders but he was in the 20s.

Ling was a definite miss, but it's not like Jetta (200 game, dual premiership player), Jones, (on track for at least 150 games), Hayward, or Florent, (should both clear 200 games) are completely shit players. Hell, even Rohan who most of us hoped for more from will be a 200 game, premiership player.

Oh yeah we'd throw in Gulden and Chad Warner for sure. And we'd only ask for pick 1 and a packet of burger rings in return.

Shocked they don’t want more jeez. I mean Logan for 1, maybe but only if he requests it but come off it we ain’t throwing in other blokes too

Are you authorised to trade on behalf of West Coast? You are? Great. I suggest you hand us pick 1 as a gesture of good faith, just to entice us to enter into negotiations. It's not like Harley Reid is going to make you a decent team in the brief couple of years before he does a Horn-Francis and heads off to find a team he doesn't have to carry. Hint, that won't be Fremantle either. I think, deep down, you know in your heart we'll get him eventually, but if you play your cards right you might use him to get us in the mood to trade. That's gotta be a win-win for both teams.

We might be persuaded to swap Peter Ladhams for Oscar Allen, Tom Barrass plus two future first round picks. Now, before you rush to stamp your chop and accept the swap, I want you to think it through carefully. With Nic Nat retired Ladhams would slot in as a perfect replacement. He's a soon-would-be premier ruckman who's coming into his prime. To get him to his prime we made him wait behind Hickey for opportunities, only now, frustratingly for him, he may have to wait again. The Pies insist on paying us $1m over 4 years to take Grundy off Melbourne's hands. Even Ladhams would agree it'd be churlish not to give Grundy first dibs on the ruck with such an opportunity. That could mean yet another year of Ladhams chomping at the bit for lack of opportunity. He's so frustrated and so determined to show how good he can be that he keeps thumping unsuspecting players. It's not his fault, but it's a huge opportunity for West Coast, if you play your cards right.

Now just between you, me and the four walls of Swans HQ, Ladhams is known by his teammates as the white Natanui. Not only does he play like Nic Nat, but he loves big Cox, something he has in common with a generation of West Coast supporters. Ladhams enjoys playing around with big Cox at training. He'd have loved to have had the opportunity to play with Cox on a footy field, as a generation of West Coast heroes did in front of their fans. Ladhams has been well drilled by big Cox. Sometimes he's been ridden particularly hard by big Cox, especially when he's needed a good poke to motivate him. Of course Ladhams will see plenty of Cox at Eagles HQ, with the walls plastered with big Cox and the team who played with Cox on the biggest stage.

Anyway, it wouldn't hurt the Eagles to help ensure a Swans premiership in 2024. Successive 200+ point thrashings are a little less humbling if you're whipped by the eventual premiers. In his Presser, Simpson can always say "We're not surpirised we've been hammered two years running by Sydney. They have big Cox. We don't. They'll be the 2024 premiers and would've been in 2023 if the umpires hadn't done their best to clear a path for either Collingwood or Carlton" He might also find a way to mention how we were robbed blind of the 2016 GF - Lest we ever forget.

Do Eagles fans even care who wins the flag? As long as the Pies don't win again. It's not like you're going to be playing finals any time soon. At least your first round pick next year will be early and you'll be glad you traded it for magic beans (another popular Ladhams nickname). Eagles fans seem to really like Allen and Barrass. We hear you. Let us do you a huge favour and give them the opportunity of a lifetime, a chance to win more games than they could ever dream of winning at the Eagles. West Coast fans will sing the Swans song in appreciation when Barrass, Allen and Harley Reid step onto the stage to accept their premiership medals.

I look forward to watching Simpson build your next premiership team around Ladhams.

Cheer, cheer, the red and the white. Just you sign here and you'll be alright (Press hard, there are three copies).
