Not a great set of personal highlights. Often stationary, links OK but doesn't propel the ball forward himself all that often. I think that was his role in that team though because he looked better in reserves. Gee that Allies team is something else.
He is the guy that goes in and gets it out in the Allies side. I actually thought he played his role perfectly. Just like a young Greg Williams.

How about Dogs. They are going to draft Croft. He is a 202cm forward. How many tall forwards can they fit into the forward line. They are already having problems fitting Naughton, Ugle-Hagen, Darcy & Lobb into the same forward line. Now they will have Croft as well.

Dogs list strategy - More forwards = more goals

End of the day we get to match it. Who honestly cares if there’s a discount if that keeps the other clubs quiet I’ll take it
Ill take the discount and buy some ear muffs thanks. Who honestly cares If Vic clubs are making noise!?
When the northern academies start to regularly produce 5ish draftees each, then it's time to start giving away our advantage.
Plenty of talk about the go home factor.. Reality is it effects all clubs, smaller clubs more than bigger clubs and non vic clubs more than vic clubs, but all clubs are effected.
The 'Come home factor' is the real discussion. And only when players start wanting to come home to Sydney or Brisbane should the advantages the academies offer be disbanded.

What do people think of Cabor? He was talked about more 6 months ago but seems to have fallen off the radar a bit. Worthy of a rookie spot?
Played as a small defender for Allies, despite being a mid usually. He played his role well, without standing out. To me that suggests he would be very borderline to be drafted, and if this was to happen, it would be as a rookie.

For me, if we were to take another academy player outside of Cleary and May, it would be Rider. Medium / small forward, seems to have a bit of X factor around goals.

Tbh I cannot get even remotely interested about this years draft, most likely the least influential draft for us in many years. Could not care less who we get or who we don’t get. This years draft will make zero difference to our destiny ….wish it was over already.

Just a thought on May and Ryder..
If talls take longer to develop, then why not leave them in the Academy an extra year? They could then continue to develop in he Swans system and we save list spots and cap space,, then if warranted, draft them in 2024

I hope you're wrong and we find an absolute gem

Also looking at this I like Cleary's ability to handball out of packs but the worry for me is he seems to have no ability at all to break a tackle. That could just be this game of course, but it seems like every time he is tackled he goes down.

Underwhelming highlights reel, but did give me some Sam Walsh vibes.

Won’t matter if we do or don’t…

Some just can't live without the daft thread

Even Geelong's 8 probably wouldn't be good enough. That 8 could become 11 and I feel O'Sullivan will go in the top 10.
As much as I want O'Sullivan, if him going higher means we have a shot at Darcy Wilson I'll be very happy. Looks a 200 gamer in the Lloyd role to me. I think there is a big step down after O'Sullivan, Wilson and Windsor. Might be we just miss all 3 which will be a major bummer.

I agree, whoever we draft won't make a difference for at least 3 years, doesn't mean I don't want us to nail our pick though
Feel somewhere in the middle, tbh. I remember looking more into the draft in 2019 and 2020 cause we were down the bottom and looking forward to the next group of kids coming through but when we should be contending it's hard to get excited about a first round pick that isn't a top 5 or 10. I hope we get someone awesome who bleeds for the club but not going to be reading too many phantom drafts this year

Darcy Wilson - not a bad one to pick up at all if he's best available - because that's what our pick will be at 12. Kinnear is very clear on that. Trade for need and draft is best available.

I'm probably less keen on Windsor as he seems to be a pure wingman with probably no real potential to play anywhere else in the short to medium term.

Realistically, our first round draft pick will be getting limited minutes in the seniors over the next couple of seasons but when they do it'll either be as the sub or on the bench.

We need our draftees to be versatile and I don't think Windsor will cut it in that regard.

I haven't watched Wilson but he reads well and probably along with Leake has the greatest capacity to fulfil a number of roles in our team over the next 2-3 years, relative to our current draft position.

Although I was initially keen on drafting Murphy if we didn't get O'Sullivan, I think he's a longer term prospect that won't necessarily align with our list profile and could end up walking out the door for peanuts just as he begins to blossom.

Because that will just be the start. Once they have gotten rid of the discounts they'll then work on getting rid of the academies all together.
Agreed.
Until they agree to rotate the Granny around the country, we should fight for every advantage possible. The most important game of the season should not be played in a ground that clearly favours teams from one city.

A little article on how last year's pick from the Hawthorn to Sydney travelled around the trade table this year.
