Plus ability to see them up close before adding them to the list.

See how they respond to coaching, instructions, run testing and drills beyond what you see in exposed form in other comps.

Effectively there's an added layer of vetting.

I sort of agree but have wondered why?

There’s no extra games to go off.

With SPP we can get 3-4 players to train with us the whole summer and pick the best one. Makes it much easier to pick right.

The other benefit in having a spot vacant is we normally always get another LTI during preseason. But if we don't initially have a position available the best undrafted guys won't train with us so when the injuries do come it's slim pickings.

Happened last year when Williams got injured late. I like Cincotta and worked out ok but we really didn't have any other options.

We missed Markov due to not being quick enough. If we have someone in mind for a role who is on other club's radar we might just need to proceed.

Yeah we probably just needed to sign Markov straight up at that stage and we would have got him. Not sure how much was to be learned by trialling him for a few days.

That said, still easier if the best guys are training with us to begin with.

ESPN phantom draft has us taking Moir and Schoenmaker. Would be happy with that. Also links us to Sanchez, Jiath, Reid and Edwards.

Ollie Murphy still on board - yeah, nah. Next.

Collard and Moir would be taking the less safe path. (in a position of need)
Rough diamonds, I like it, you'd think at least one of them will make it in the big league.
Go on young Curly, take a chance.

Would love this.

I remember a while ago it felt like Collard was bolting into the top 10/15 range and I didn't want to trade up for him. But if he's at our first pick, I would be driving the hovercraft up to the podium at full speed to read his name out. Could be a superstar.

That’s what I reckon too, for this year anyway. Same with Jiath’s attributes and lack of experience. Stuff drafting for depth in a shallow draft, go for a couple of potential stars.
