Please please Schoenmaker to last till our pick. Has big wraps on the lad all through but now that I've discovered he's a mad Blues supporter want him even more.

He sounds like a very fair-weather supporter:

“Dad’s a crazy supporter and all of Dad’s mates go for the Blues,” Schoenmaker told foxfooty.com.au.

“I used to go for the Hawks when they were on that massive three-peat, but then went over to the dark side.

“We went alright this year. Halfway through the year when I was down and out I wasn’t really following them, but then all of a sudden we kept on winning games and became hot going into finals. It was a great run. I just hope we don’t go into next year and finish 14th again.”

Our Midfield needs a lot more depth, and I think is our most volatile area. Even with everyone we have fit,
Kennedy & Hewitt (as you mentioned) aren't 2 way runners and although they battle hard, they are limited.

This year we Delisted/Traded Ed Curnow, Paddy Dow, Zac Fisher, Lochie O'Brien & Sam Philp, who were all rotated through the midfield as well as O'Brien & Curnow being excellent 2-way runners.

We don't have much in development in this area and even with the Campo twins coming onboard next year they will take a while to develop. I think we need 1 more Marquis speedy 2-way mid with skills. Bailey Smith would be ideal.

I'm hoping Cuningham can step up in the midfield but he seems to fade out as soon as he builds some form.

I also think Williams 100% needs to play Mid/fwd.

Harley Reid sure would help too. :(

speedy two mid with skills ≠ Bailey Smith

Most of his game is ok but his kicking is sub par.

I'm leaning towards us taking some dynamic trait players with both our selections and finally having the trust and confidence in backing our system to get the best out of them.

Unless there was a crazy slider still on the board at 22 and 28, I'd be happy to walk away with a combination of:

Tholstrup, C. Edwards, Collard, Moir, Schoenmaker, Mannagh, Lual, Goad, Jiath, Sanchez.

My question is how a dynamic traits player gets a game if they have deficiencies in other areas.

IMO this is where we back in our confidence in development.

I don't think any draftee (bar maybe the top few) come in w/ no deficiencies.

You could even throw a player like Morris in there if we want a tall to be working alongside Charlie and H in their development.

I agree though - if we don't go tall, I'd love us to take a dynamic type cos that's the way the game is headed. I'm a massive fan of Sanchez - but others like Lual, Collard and Simpson should be in the mix if they're available.

The other one I have big raps on is Billy Wilson. He played predominantly across half back, but once he was released on-ball during the 2nd half the season, his game just exploded.

Curious where Moir will land. One of the more spectacular drop off's since his under-age year in recent times. His talent will be miles ahead of most in his draft range.

Wonder whether he is the high upside type we take a chance on or if we are turned off by questions surrounding his competitiveness?

He seems to be the Harry Lemmey of 2023.

Love his X-Factor, but I haven't seen enough of him to figure out if he meets the "toughness around the contest" characteristic that Austin loves.

Seems very Troy Menzel/Mario Balotelli like in his lethargy

Pretty much. We took Lemmey despite questions on his competitiveness. Though that was late in the draft and by that stage I think we were just looking for the best key forward left to fill a need.

Moir seems to have unreal skills and is great overhead for his size. Can kick bags of goal as that medium forward. We could do with another type like that. The knock is that he's one dimensional (mark, kick, goal), doesn't get much of the ball, doesn't do much at ground level. He also seems to play best when he is the main marking target inside 50 but that's not going to happen at his size at AFL level so needs to add more strings to his bow / find other ways to stay involved in the game. His character is apparently good and he did battle through a hip injury this year which wouldn't have helped.

Can't see Wilson as a Dangerfield type. Much more slender build

Danger didn't exactly come into the AFL with the build he has now. He didn't even play midfield for any significant time until year 4 or 5. It's been lost in the annals of AFL history but the Crows had a very lengthy and purposeful development period for Dangerfield, he wasn't a bonafide mid until year 5 in the league after playing forward for the vast majority of his first 4 yrs.

I'm no draft guru, but I like the look and sound of Tholstrup and Collard. Any chance they'll or at least one of them will be around at our first?
Moir has been mentioned too.

But more small forwards?

Owies, Durdin, Fantasia (plays if fit), Motlop - none play any other role?

2 spots only.

Do we need more?

Haven't been on here much lately so don't know whether it has been mentioned.
What's peoples thoughts on Cooper Simpson?
What's his draft range?

I’ve seen this kid play and have spoken to a couple of his teammates and a parent. Internally, he’s rated higher than DeMattia. Injuries harmed his stock, purely because of timing.

My Cup Day form guide. - Real Smokey and can run the distance. Excellent turn of foot and disposal by foot is very good. Can lead. Definite mid/fwd option. Must consider.

IMO, the simple answer is 'yes'.

We're unlikely to get a small forward who's going to step in straight away. Motlop is now entering his 3rd season, Durds his 4th - both highly talented, but still developing their craft to be a regular in the starting 22.

Fantasia is a 'hail mary'. Could make a difference in the short term, but you'd have to be optimistic to think he's a long term solution. Owies for mine is an honest battler, but a bit of a seat warmer until the others arrive. If we do draft a small forward this year and give him a few years to develop, Owies will be 29yo entering into the season.

Pies have shown that you can't have enough small forward presence after the GF this year, but still went after Schultz anyway.

Would love for Austin to call out, "We select, Cooper Simpson".
Balanced mid with speed to burn, good foot skills. An attacking type with his style of play would help out with our ball movement that needs to improve.
Our other pick I would like it to be a goalkicking mid, who in our draft range would fit that bill, I do not know....
Any poster who knows the stat's for goals in U18 footy this year which I don't might be able to figure out what player that is...

Owies born in 1997, same juniors as JSOS ain’t he?
Edit: 27 next year
