This why youre commish
I will have a better read on the cap vs roster balance when all the new salaries for off-contract players is calculated next off-season (february). To figure out how much higher the cap "should" increase.

Why don't all the FA salaries scale with last year's production?

For example:

I made sure all off contract players (FAs and rostered ones) received a new salary based on their 2022 fantasy scores using the 2022 scorong system.

I did it all via spreadsheet (copied the 2022 points) then applied it into the new league year.....BEFORE i changed the scoring for 2023.

Dont know why they dont match, unless thats a glitch by MFL display

Some were cut with years remaining on their deal?
Oh sorry, now i get his question....yes.

Drd23 requested some years ago that before the auction, all free agents are reduced to 1 yr contracts. So i do that, but until a player wont receive a new salary until he actually reaches his zero year

So we have to calculate new salary ourselves?

FYI....whenever a play is won in auction, he will automatically receive a default 3 yr contract (people can request 4 or 5 yrs), but any new contract means a new salary.....so....whomever does get won in bids, I have to re-calculate their salary based on 2022 fantasy pts scored.

I'm a little confused... so the amount you bid for FAs is NOT the salary they are signed for?

Na, think of it like a signing bonus that you pay all in year 1

ADP is right. You win a bid on a player with a sum of say $1.5m, your salary cap will get a 1.5m charge, and the players salary was say $3.3m, so that will go against your cap. So all up your cap space will decrease by $4.8m.

The player will exist on ypur roster with a 3 yr contract, say.

If you cut that player at any time during the season, you will incur another cap charge of 3 (years) x 20% of his salary. So 600k x 3 = 1.8m, whilst also freeing up 3.3m from your cap. So 3.3m minus 1.8m .... all up you made 2m cap room.

As the season wears on, and you get tight on cap room, thats when the pain begins, as you cut players in order to make cap room to sign other players.

At the very end of the season is a good time to purge your roster, cutting unwanted high salaried in-contract players....because....at the start of the next off-season I wipe clean all cap charges fron the previous season.

So the pain is only for one season, but you may need to cut players to make cap room, when they underperform, lose their starting role, some gun free agent is avalaible in waivers you wabt to try to replace him with.

All money spent on bids tho stay on your cap ledger for the duration of the season, even if you cut the player.

Dont worry, ive made the mistake or impatience of bidding big on a player, then cutting them, incurring a cap charge, then claiming them again on waivers, then cutting them again, incurring another cap charge.

If you trade a player you won in auction, likewise the bid amount always stays as a cap charge for the season.

Trading a player is a better way to free yourself of a players salary against your cap tho.....if you cut a player its contract yrs multiplied by 20% of his salary charged against your cap....you can still make some room....1m, 2m....but if you trade a player....you incur no charge, free up his entire salary

I might increase the cap after the auction ends. Will assess how much space everyone has when it's over, taking into account a whole season of waiver wires needing to be done.

Sounds like someone has overspent in the auction 😃

Not thinking about me. Im fine with where Im at, and spending so much, my roster needs an overhaul. Remember, every year i have 50m+ dead money, so i cut players to make room constantly. More of an assessment of how everyone sits, the collective position. I also want to make sure GMs feel the squeeze of the cap.
