Hunt is the option. West Coast didn't bring him over to stick him in the WAFL. He's playing round 1 and I'm on board.

Hunts def playing. Whether he can score is another issue but at his price he's worth a look

Have Daicos like most currently, but is a move to the midfield actually a good thing for him? Got so many cheap possies last year

Sure ...if you're looking for a loop option :moustache:

Assume he's referring to this:

*************************

Despite all the puff in that piece, I can't see how he gets a spot, let alone keeps his spot for more than 1 or 2 games - once locks in Weller and Power return + Long being pretty much a lock too.

Weller, W. Powell, Farrar, B. Long, B. Ellis, Ballard, S. Collins, the likely back 7, IMO.

Budarick first in line as back up, then Constable gets a shot. Could happen, but no JS at all if it does.

Yeah look I admit it’s definitely a stretch and it wouldn’t be a pick you make with confidence. Has a good fantasy game about him though so worth at least chucking on the watch list. If Weller and Powell both miss the first 3-4 weeks that might be enough time for him to make decent coin

Yeah he's one I would never pick - just because I've seen first hand just how bad his tank is...and has been since draft year. Could maybe crack in for a game here or there, but I don't see him playing more than 5 games for the year - if that.

If that's the case, I have a bridge to sell you :p
Constable has always been a consistent scorer 108.5 in 2021 and 102.6 in last year

Hunt and McKenna are rebounding via Constable who is an accumulator

Mind you Will Brodie had the same athletic profile as me and went at 95 last year

It's not pretty at all, that 4/5 defender is giving me nightmares i don't want hunt mckenna or constable

But mind you if he bangs out a 120 in the pre-season

Match sim for Freo on the weekend and once again Young was taking the vast majority of kickouts. Caveat this week was that Ryan was doing them at the other end as they were on different teams. Noticeable difference in effectiveness between the 2 to my eyes but my eyes don't coach that much at Freo so pinch of salt etc.

Perhaps Ryan to play more lockdown DEF ....freeing up Young 🤞

Still wouldn't trust his JS - even if he has the skill

We all thought Brodie wouldn't do a full season, stranger things have happened 😂

It will be a wait and see

Ryan has played that lockdown role the whole of PS, basically he's been on Fyfe in any of the games I've seen. I doubt it will free up Young that much as I think this was the case for the bulk of last year anyway but it won't hurt that's for sure. The big things for this season with Young are kick-ins (tick) and the fact he's getting up the ground a lot more and being used multiple times in a move forward (tick). To me these add more to his scoring than someone making move to the midfield would make because the +6 potential of those increased up-field possessions combined with 4-5 (min) more +3's from kickouts makes 10-15 on his average pretty easy. Defensive efforts may well come and that is for each of us to determine I guess but I see that as much less likely to have an impact than fighting for midfield possessions and losing the easy +6's in defence I see on the horizon for Daicos.

I get the Daicos love but the midfield thing guaranteeing 100ppg to me is far from the slam dunk being espoused.

In his under 18's year as a full time mid, Daicos went at 136 Fantasy points, 2 goals and 35.8 disposals per game, across 5 games (given the season was cut short) - it's seriously f*cking nuts what he did Fantasy wise/stats wise in under age.

As much as I agree there's a ton of upside for Young, I still disagree that Daicos doesn't have as much/if not more upside. Young went at 86 in his underage year, and he's already surpassed that. I think Young is capped at 100 at most, whereas I think Daicos will have multiple 120+ seasons, and likely win a Brownlow within the next 5 years. His only threat is being tagged, but every team tried it at underage level - and failed. I suspect his tank will burn all except the most diligent taggers with a tank to match his - like a Callum Mills type.

Going at 87 in your first year, as a defender, is crazy. Only Sam Walsh has him beat in recent times with 92, but he was a full time mid basically from the get go. Young went at 41.6 in his first year and then 85 in his second year, so pretty strong comparison...but only went at 87.6 in his third. He's had 2 more seasons and he did in his third what Daicos did in his first. Young will stay as a defender at the end of this year, but Daicos will likely be pushing for uber mid status, come the next couple of years, IMO - the guy is made for Fantasy.

Re: the +6's in defence, you only need to see guys like Zerrett, Touk, Mills and Macrae, who always drift back with their elite tank, for that plus 6. I imagine Daicos will have free reign like in his underage year, and will probably be both their highest disposal winner, and highest fantasy scorer this year - even with Tom Mitchell in the team. Apparently he is completely dominating match sim, and he's only in his second year. At the very least he's easily got a 95 in him, and that would make him a Top 6 Defender based on last year. He had 7 tons last year compared to Young's four, so he already has him covered in his first year in ceiling, as well. Young was consistent, but Daicos had a 40 disposal, 3 goal game - which again is just nuts for a first year player.

Honestly, I like Young as a POD pick, but going against 45% of the comp when their underage scores are not even close to similar, is a dangerous strategy, IMO. I'm definitely down with choosing both if you can, but if there's only one choice, I know who I'm going with. Who knows with Fantasy, but underage stats do matter, when it comes to assessing just how much of a ball magnet a player is/what their Fantasy upside is - and Daicos is unparalleled when played in his natural position - the midfield.

Thoughts on Aish as a POD?

Sounds like he’s getting on ball and midfield/Wing minutes and has been doing well in the match sims.

Do Freo have space for him to be an permanent midfielder?

At 698K and priced at 79 (just under 700K) is far too much for a guy who's mid only, and no guarantee to even play pure mid, IMO. For an extra 79K, you can get Serong. For an extra 54K you can get Tom Green. Just too speculative for mine - except for Draft

You can rule Salem out if you hadn't already.
Also don't like hearing Brayshaws name down back, lessens his upside if true.

Where do you guys stand on using Salem as an upgrade target? If you're prepared to start with him (assuming full health) do people look to players like Salem as a potential upgrade if circumstances allow or does the game change once the season begins?

Could be a good early play, and allow you to see if he has form before jumping on.
Although if he's playing early on, you might struggle for the cash generation to make an upgrade that quickly into the season.
