O'Sullivan will end up a top 10 Pick I reckon, he's similar athletically to Gibcus, same strength aerially but a better lockdown player and cleaner disposal. Seems to be somewhat against the grain thinking atm but for mine he's a better genuine KPD prospect than Curtin. If we end up with two picks between 5 and 10 I'd love us to prioritise him as that Davis replacement long term, would allow Alleer to play in the Haynes mould aswell
Those are exactly my thoughts too!

As well as being athletic, he's a solid lad & 198 cms, so hopefully he'll grow to take the KPFs in the Hawkins mould.

Article that states Max Gruzewski could be the next Jacob van Rooyen. I hope he gets to debut sometime this season and show us his skills

The young Demon's aerial dominance, exciting potential, key-position flexibility and development through the VFL draw similar comparisons to that of GWS rookie Max Gruzewski, who traded Victoria for Sydney's west last November as the first selection on night two of the 2022 National Draft.

I feel we are pretty good down back at the moment.

Taylor, Buckley and HH being our talls, Idun our Hybrid and Aleer next in line.

For me, Id be looking for some players that can play on the inside and outside. Not that they grow on trees.
And who's developing behind those, once Davis & Keeffe are gone?

Just Fleeton, and he's pretty short in KPD terms. We still haven't seen what Aleer's best role is - can he be that No 1 or 2 KPD (or even just No 2), or is he a Haynes-style intercepting defender. Arguably, HH is similar in style too.

So my concern is failing to cover all bases in the squad if we go "all in" on someone early draft. Which is also why I'd be reluctant to trade out 2 (or worse, 3) first round picks for Reid or Watson. IMHO, O'Sullivan can be the No 1 defender, which is a gap behind Sam Taylor. And we can also get an inside/outside midfielder (quality depending on exactly where our picks fall).

I guess it doesnt take to much from there to be one short.

Probably looking at a Duursma or McKercher then for balanced midfielders that damage consistently. Duursma I'm still really high on, think he'd be the perfect Kelly replacement down the line, without the dual sided kicking

I agree, or if we do trade for 1 no more than 2r1s, a future r2.

Yes, I'll not say "never" - you've always got to analyse the situation when all facts are known. And I do think Watson would be handy, although I'm of a view that we actually have a full quota of small forwards (in fact, we're oversubscribed). But we need to be cognisant of the whole-of-list needs, and think 3 to 5 years ahead.

those 2 and wilson I like the look of from my limited viewing/knowledge. I also like Watson if he was to sneak to us.

For what's it worth, rather then looking to trade up for Reid, or Watson who I actually don't see getting picked up in the top 5. I would rather we target O'Sullivan and Caddy with our 2 first rounders. Mind you Caddy is coming with a bit of a bullet so might be out of reach.
If we retain both HH & Riccardi, I don't see the need for Caddy. But if we lose HH (or both), he would seem a logical option, although we still have Derksen and Gruzewski who haven't even been tried at AFL level (but numbers-wise, losing 2 x KPFs would indicate the need for at least one replacement). However, as you say, I suspect Caddy is well gone by our pick (and again, I don't believe that we should trade multiple picks to get him). I should think Norths and Hawks would both want him, and apparently Carlton are all over him too (although goodness knows why, when they have Curnow and McKay).

I can see scenarios where Watson doesn't go in the top 5 (including GCS matching on Walter), in which case if we've got #5 (falling to #6 if/after the Walter bid/match), he could fall into our hands. There is a risk, though, that a team such as Sydney jumps early on O'Sullivan as a need, and we miss out on him. :(

This year's draft is looking hard to read (for me at least), with a lot of permutations in terms of the players, the clubs, ratings & needs.

Hopefully we do alot better than last year.
Traded 3,12 for 1 when we didn't need to, we could have waited this year to get a KPF.
Also pick 15 was wasted ( swans being bastards not Withstanding) to some degree.

Soooo, Lachie Ash, Brent Daniels AND pick 5 for Harley Reid.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

seriously - this was published - in an actual paper that people have to pay money to read. These people would be laughed out of Bay 13 for this s#*t.

Sum of the rubbish from these media “experts” on what we would give to get Reid is just delusional. Next they’ll be having us offer up Toby to get Reid!

That's the paper looking for BS opinions to sell itself. Recruiters aren't list managers. I've met several, most are glorified draft watchers (though generally good enough within that area of expertise) so their opinion on what a player is worth or going to get in a trade is beyond irrelevant.

Borrowed from elsewhere ... some commentary on potential McKay move to Essendon; they have a warchest and a need for a big KPD. Would give Norths band 1 compo (so pick #3, straight after their #2) and push everyone else's picks back.

Would it be band 1 for sure? He sure hasn’t been great thus far… even considering he’s been in a terrible side.

Depends on the cash he goes for. Doubt he'll bother moving to Essendon unless it's a big deal.

The point of the article is that Bombers would pay an amount to ensure it is Band 1. Otherwise Norths would match and force a trade - which is to Essendon's disadvantage. As the article states, they would pay the extra $, which they have capacity to do, to ensure smooth passage.

It's the same playbook as Lions did to get Daniher, and Bombers got their Band 1 compensation pick. (And then promptly extended him for less $ per year.)

It's also what we've discussed in respect of HH - we'd want whichever club wants him to ensure Band 1 with a big $$ contract, or we'll match.

I agree that McKay's overall performance (outside of a decent 2022) and injury history should not be worthy of an $800k-ish contract; but that's overridden by the tactical manoeuvring around TPP & draft picks.

Damien Barrett thinks Himmelberg will be gone by year's end if he hasn't committed to us by now, and that the Swans are interested.
