Great that we extended Briggs from 2024 to 2026- great work by our club.

But yet no news about Flynn and Preuss - both their contracts expire at the end of the year. Signs not looking good for Flynn staying then? Suspect if Flynn goes, Preuss gets a year’s extension.
Flynn not even one of the extended bench so you'd imagine he's done

Not sure I would assume that just yet. AK's playing style does use two ruck types, the second as a relief and big presence in the forward line. Keeffe is holding down the second one at this time and given his age, we are yet to see if the club believes he has another full year at his current level (which to be fair has been very good at playing his designated role). So there maybe a vacancy next year. Further, Preuss does have a history of injury. Also would Flynn get the first ruck role at another club or be simply moving to another pace where he is still in the queue. Flynn maybe able to have a big preseason and readjust his style to the Keeffe role if the Club decides to not re-contract the latter. I feel confident that whatever happens AK will deal with it honestly/honorably; that seems to be part of the culture of this team.

There's no real benefit to them re-signing at this point if all we're offering is minimal (which is probably the case for a clear backup ruck).

Might as well test the waters, see if anyone else wants them, and then come back if needs be. I doubt our offer would change much. That's assuming we're interested in bringing them back of course.

Pardon for the intrusion. Hope you win tomorrow, maybe even the flag although Collingwood, Brisbane will be alot tougher than Port I think.
You guys have done very well with future firsts , getting picks 2,6 in recent years.
What would you offer for Geelongs 2024r1?
Pick 6 perhaps, or if you traded 6 for 10,17 to bulldogs could we do
Geelong 2024r1 for 10,gws 2024r2.

6 for your f1 is bad business …. We’d need another pick under 20 back

If north get 2,3 AND access to sanders that’s a joke

Even worse that the afl public seems to have accepted it
They are unrelated though.
the 3 is a compensation pick for McKay (if it pans out that way)
Sanders would be an assistant package (in lieu of a pick)
Given how rubbish they have been for 5 years, an assistance package is probably ok, it just feels worse if they also get a compensation pick of 3 for McKay (which feels too high in its own right anyway)

I think the big problem is prognosticating where Geelong will finish in 2024. If they rebound, then #6 could be traded for a future mid-teen pick - which isn't a good outcome for GWS. Geelong might press the point that they could stay around their current level ... but it's a matter of how much risk is the list management team prepared to take?

Ditto trading our own pick plus a 2024 round 2 pick - could be well overs.

So, personally I wouldn't do either of those deals. Not worth the risk.

it'll be either him or Preuss that goes.
How they are ranked this week will have little to do with who goes/stays. In fact, it might be completely out of our hands. One or the other may elect to elsewhere, in that case, I reckon we try and keep the other.

could only see us trading our second pick into the future, unless as part of a bigger trade to get 4 off Gold coast.

We may trade one of our current picks for Geelong's first (depending which one, there would be some other parts attached as Geelong's future is likely worth between our 2 2023 picks) and trade our future first and Geelong's future first for 4.

Is 4 really alot better than 6 for you?

Not as much as bulldogs, Melbourne, Sydney could offer so I doubt we trade up. Having said that, if Gold coast can make a mint from pick 6, then maybe we offer 6,15 for 4,2024r3.
Points wise a good win for gold Coast, they can them trade 15 for points,
6 59,60 to dogs for 10,2024r1.

Overall for gold coast,
4,59,60,2024r3 for 10,15,2024r1.
They then get to trade 10,15 for 2 seconds each at least, possibly a second and 2024r1 for 10.
Swans swap 10 for 22 , 2024r1.

gets us one of Dursma or McKercher most likely, that is the type we need.

probably need our future first and something else to get to 4. But we'd only trade our future first into this year if we could trade one of first rounders back into next year. It is in that scenario we might trade into Geelongs first. This is just my thought bubble with no inside knowledge or anything BTW

Looks like you should push hard to get 4, but talk to dogs to convince them to accept 6 at a lower cost than 4. Don't overpay for 4 and get a bit ripped off like you did in the megatrade last year.

Your pick 6 is the key to turning 4 into 2 future firsts as well as points.

If the recent talk that Sanders is more likely to be in the open draft pool is correct, rather than being locked away to north. Then suspect we will just hold our pick as one of Watson or Sanders should still be on the board with our first selection.
I think that's what Kingsley and Co will do.
Both of those players are likely good fits for us going forward.

Nth will have Picks 2 and 3, the deals for McKay are all ensuring band 1 compensation. That system is broken if a hack like him can get that result.

On another matter it is slightly annoying to see the Swans using their bounty from last years draft skullduggery to bring in talent.

You will remember they tried to blackmail us into trading away future picks when their first selection came up (Either trade with them or they bid on Rowston, we match or let them have him). They are scum and show it frequently, our success is the best revenge!

Interesting tidbit ... I wouldn't have seen a lot of value in Elliott Himmelberg, but maybe using him as a spare ruck/fwd, to take over from Keeffe?

GIANTS EYE CROW

GREATER Western Sydney is eyeing a brotherly reunion, with the Giants having interest in Adelaide forward Elliott Himmelberg in this year's trade period.

Himmelberg is the younger brother of current Giants star Harry, who re-signed this year as a free agent at the Giants on a six-year extension.

Elliott Himmelberg played three games for Adelaide this year and is contracted for 2024, so a trade would need to be struck for the versatile tall/ruckman.

The 25-year-old has played 41 games for the Crows after being drafted with pick No.51 in 2016, a year after Harry was picked by the Giants as an Academy selection. – Callum Twomey and Riley Beveridge

Eh he's fine as depth, would come quite cheaply I'd imagine. Would have no expectations for him to be able to impact at the AFL level but as a break in case of emergency tall we could probably do worse.

Would be able to play Keefes role better than Keefe. Although hopefully next year Gruz or Cadman can play that role infinitely better.
