First ever bigfooty post here.

I see E. Himmel as a ready-made replacement for Keefe (who'll probably retire soon). Especially if we lose one of Flynn or Preuss just leaves us with a little extra to fall back on
Welcome, always great to have new posters!

Has to be a moneyball situation. Looking for depth, relatively cheap $$, can cover forward, defence & ruck roles. Adelaide fans were surprised last year when he got a 2-year extension; happy to wave goodbye to him. They also seem to be looking at Chol as backup ruck option.

I wonder if there's any link to HH's contract? i.e. Sign with us and we'll get your brother in.

It's the price we must pay to get Harry re-signed I guess

That is how I see it too

Bit of a reverse - lots of talk over the last couple of years about Himmleberg to Adelaide to join his brother. I remember posting years ago about “why does Harry have to go to Adelaide? Why can’t Elliot come to GWS to join his brother here instead?” And was rubbished at the time.

if he’s tall enough & works on his ruck chop out skills he becomes the obvious Keefe replacement

Sam Wicks from Sydney coming out of contract end of this year. Fast player and local with endurance. Ranks highly in Sydney both for top speed and top kms covered in a match. Could be handy and cheap as a small forward. Would let us trade up for a midfielder (McKercher/Duursma) without having to consider Watson as much. Some people may say too many small forwards is a surplus role, with Jones and McMullin as well who will need time to develop, but I think under Kingsley's gameplan, these types are invaluable and necessary. Personally think 1 more is enough to cover Lloydy's retirement, but can see how exposed we were with Daniels and Bedford gone against Port a couple of weeks back.

Just some stats averages to consider for Wicks:
2021 - 22 games, 4 tackles, 19.3 pressure acts, 1.36 tackles inside forward 50, 4.18 score involvements, 0.36 goal assists, 0.7 goals
2022 - 10 games, 2.5 tackles, 15.0 pressure acts, 0.7 tackles inside forward 50, 3.50 score involvements, 0.40 goal assists, 0.4 goals
2023 - 11 games, 5.4 tackles, 18.4 pressure acts, 2.09 tackles inside forward 50, 4.64 score involvements, 1.00 goal assists, 0.91 goals

As comparison, 2023 game averages for our small forwards:
1. Bedford - 17 games, 5.2 tackles, 24.5 pressure acts, 2.12 tackles inside forward 50, 4.94 score involvements, 0.53 goal assists, 0.71 goals

2. Daniels - 18 games, 3.3 tackles, 20.3 pressure acts, 1.61 tackles inside forward 50, 6.11 score involvements, 0.94 goal assists, 1.39 goals

3. Greene - 22 games, 2.6 tackles, 14.9 pressure acts, 1.5 tackles inside forward 50, 8.23 score involvements, 1.09 goal assists, 2.77 goals

4. O'Hallaran - 13 games, 3.2 tackles, 20.3 pressure acts, 1.23 tackles inside forward 50, 4.23 score involvements, 0.38 goal assists, 0.85 goals

5. Lloyd - 21 games, 3.0 tackles, 16.5 pressure acts, 1.33 tackles inside forward 50, 3.76 score involvements, 0.57 goal assists, 0.52 goals

6. Brown - 17 games, 1.5 tackles, 8.8 pressure acts, 0.59 tackles inside forward 50, 3.76 score involvements, 0.53 goal assists, 1.06 goals

These faster players lets us keep rotating one into the midfield when we need that point of difference and injection of speed that our midfielders sometimes lack. Nice seeing Callaghan run through there though with his acceleration.

Yes agree I don't mind Sam 'candles' Wicks. I'd still be bringing in khamis as a third tall, if Hogan or Riccardi go down the cupboard will be pretty much bare. Cadman looks a few years off atm.

Reckon we could get Duursma major for a pick in the 30s if we still wanted him
i want him. is he prepared to move to us, will Port really let him go for a pick in the 30's

Bout bloody time! For a lot of these kids it’s about getting through the second year, by the third and fourth they usually settle.

Also by adding on the year it gives us more bargaining power if we do have an early trade request.

A very good move!
Yes, great for us interstate clubs- will avoid situations like Tanner Brauhn from being common place

With the 3 year deals coming in and my blind faith in Kingsley being able to build strong relationships with players, I have to say I would be fine with taking Watson regardless of the talk of him being a flight risk.
You'd think that the Wizard would be salivating at the prospect of joining the Giants' forward line ... alongside Toby & friends.
