Full list of the MSD nominations to date, noms close wednesday...
At least 183 players have nominated for next week’s AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, including 29 players who have asked for longer-term contracts if they are to be selected.
While nominations officially close on Wednesday, an updated list of early nominations was circulated to recruiters on Monday.

Players from state league competitions around the country have nominated, as well as some potential surprise packets from local competitions.

Eleven players are undergoing medical testing from the AFL in the lead up to the May 31 draft after attracting significant interest from clubs.

Those players are Clay Tucker (Eastern Ranges), Ethan Stanley (Box Hill), Flynn Riley (Northern Knights), Jack Buller (Claremont), Jaiden Hunter (Perth), James Trezise (Richmond VFL), Mutaz El Nour (Richmond VFL), Robert Hansen Jnr (Subiaco), Ryan Maric (Gippland Power), Rye Penny (Calder Cannons) and Will Elliott (Oakleigh Chargers).

Key forward Maric debuted for Box Hill’s VFL side on the weekend and is one of the players to have nominated for a longer 18-month minimum contract given he is shaping as a likely top-three pick.
Former Essendon forward Brayden Ham, former Melbourne defender Marty Hore and former Geelong livewire Quinton Narkle are among other nominations.

any mid 20s plodders with no future at the level for us to look at?

I wonder whether we could get a young, promising, fourth or fifth-best-midfielder-at-their-club type from a team with an actually-stacked midfield. Someone looking for midfield opportunities who thinks they won’t get them unless they move.
Eg. Zac Bailey

not sure getting the 5th best mid of an elite group helps us at all. We're already stacked with those, it's the top couple from those groups that we lack.

we offered Greenwood, Keath and Jacobs contracts, they chose to go elsewhere. Who are the others?
Not acquiescing to player demands for longer Contracts, or higher salaries ....is making hard calls on 29+ non-core players .....all wanted to stay

Not acquiescing to player demands for longer Contracts, or higher salaries ....is making hard calls on 29+ non-core players .....all wanted to stay

3 year deals with triggers for Keath and Greenwood was totally riskless. It's not like we don't give long term deals that finish when players are in their 30s. Smith, Laird and Sloane current examples. Plus Hugh and Alex were both 28 throughout the entire seasons after leaving us. Hardly 29+.

cold or incompetent? How is it possible to have not had that convo prior?

You know how it goes, you busted your wifes favourite vase and you are going to tell her but you want to find the right time and everytime you remember she's pretty angry at you for something else. Then you are both in a good mood and you think "this is it, I'll tell her now" and before the words get out of your mouth she looks at you and says" Where is my vase?"

Pretty sure it went down pretty close to that

obviously I don't, I'm an absolute dream to live with. Nobody has ever used the words 'highly' and 'tolerant' in a sentence when referring to my missus.

Question is - what do we pay Doedee if he wants to stay?

He is a good medium sized defender. He provides absolutely nothing offensively. He is 21st for average meters gained and 7th for average rebound 50's.

Compare him to 3 game Max:

Max - Per game - 6 intercepts per game, 3 rebound 50's,7.7 kicks, 3 handballs, 175 metres gained, 3.7 tackles, 3.3 marks, 2 1%'s.
Doedee - Per game - 6.7 intercepts, 2.3 rebound 50's, 8.3 kicks, 6 handballs, 173 metres gained, 2 tackles, 4.7 marks, 7 1%'s.

Now don't get me wrong he is a best 22 player for us, however I don't think we would lose too much should he leave. Worrell/Max have shown to be at least equal to Doedee's production.

Question is getting more interesting by the week. What do we pay Doedee if he wants to stay?

There is no way now he should be payed as a top 10 player at the club. If you did a top 10 club B&F now I have (Dawson, Laird, Walker, Rankine, Rachele, Smith, Pedlar, Murray and Keays) all miles ahead of him. I probably have Max, Fog and O'Brien ahead of him. That leaves him around the 13-16 range.

Many on here were saying how elite his intercepts are. Thats his elite AFL attribute. He is having a career low 6.6 intercepts this year.

Worrell has again proven that he will be the elite intercept defender for this club for the future. Had 6 intercepts in 3/4 of footy, but not only that he was a key driver once he got the ball! In his 6th game of AFL football - Worrell had 553 metres gained (for reference -Doedee has never had over 500metres gained in a game, in fact his last 3 games combined he had 470 metres gained).

So we have established he can't defend Talls (not his fault - he is the size of a midfielder), his role as an intercepter is better suited to the much bigger and more offensively capable Worrell.

That must mean he is now our #1 small/medium defender. Except for the fact that Max has now overtaken him as proven by the coaches giving him the responsibility of the most dangerous small/medium forward.

So where does that leave us with Doedee - In my book we have to select Murray, Butts, Worrell, Max, Smith and Hinge ahead of him.

From potential captain to 7th most important defender.

We better not give him a big contract.

Would paddy Dow be a good get?
At worst plays sanfl.
Seems to be killing it in the vfl.

He's officially put off contract talks until the end of the season, come on, we know what that normally means.

Murray, Worrell, Hinge, Milera, Michalanney, Redman?

Basically that 7th defender becomes a question mark with Butts already signed but I'm iffy on him.
Did Hipwood play in that game yesterday?

If he did someone must have thrown a blanket over him for the entirety of the game?

I'm pretty sure he is leaving at the end of the season.
But it looks like plenty of younger players are offering more than what Tom does.
Tom needs to be a better rebounding defender and Worrell has shown what he can do in that role in just his first game back.
Hinge also good at the rebound.

Did Hipwood would play in that game yesterday?

If he did someone must have thrown a blanket over him for the entirety of the game?
Lol, I remember it being almost the end of the 1st half and I saw Hipwood flash into frame, and thought, damn, Eric Hipwood is playing today.

Was the biggest non-factor of a KPF i've seen in a long time.

I really like Tom, but I also don't think his output is irreplaceable.

I'm happy he's having a good season too. I can see a lot of Vic teams in the Tom Doedee market. Ironically if Redman leaves he would be a perfect fit in that Essendon team.

Hes the one I trust least out of the 7. He did ok last night, but over past 18 months I wouldnt trust him currently.
Have you noticed he hasn't played with his calf heavily strapped the last 3 weeks. He was obviously doing a pretty good job getting out there at all early on the season when hampered. In Burgess we trust. With Worrell injured the cupboard was pretty bare unless the coach considered an undersized Borlase or an underdone Keane?

Redman can do a little bit of what Doedee does, too (in fact, Redman is juuust averaging more intercepts per game this year)

If you go taller, you go with Butts, who has looked better in recent weeks. If you go smaller/more mobile, you look for a 3rd intercepting replacement. Usually you can find one for trade on the cheap
