Obviously you haven't been following this year's draft class closely, if you had you would know there is a dearth of quality midfield prospects available in this year's open draft so unless the recruiting team are sure the targeted midfielder would be there upgrading would be pointless.

Are you suggesting taking a midfielder at our pick even if the recruiting team think the best player available at that pick is other than a midfielder...for instance Connor O'Sullivan, Mitch Edwards or Nate Caddy?

Not that closely, for those two reasons. No high pick and no obvious midfielder to take. Still baffled why they actually used pick 6 last year on Isaac. Great player, but there were other ways! Other than McAsey, that was the pick!

So then, we got the man. Did what we did..

Why then, did they not sell everything left to get back in and pick a bloody midfielder!!??

Maybe, maybe not.

Essendon made a big offer and were sitting before us in the PSD. GCS has history of sending players there if they don't get the offer they want, because draft picks seem so meaningless to them.

It's frustrating, but I'm sure we had made commitments to Rankine's management. We had little ability to play silly buggers.

Who's to say they didn't?

We made offers, but there wasn't interest in the assets we had available.

Billy Dowling is a mid and has looked like he has a future after some niggles early in the season. Good again today and building nicely.

Serious player! A bit like the Pedal in the rawness, Pedlar just went a lot earlier in the draft, dew to higher interest! Billy is a the Sloane of 15 years after!

We had weak spots all over the ground tonight. KPD, HBF, midfield, wing, small forwards

The best talent we get needs to be midfielders, but there are still many holes that need to be fixed

Our weak spots in other areas of the ground all flow from our midfield being smashed

Disagree, Smith and Butts made unforced error after unforced error. Sholl is Atkins, but even more indecisive. Small forwards have been nowhere near the drop of the ball the past two weeks in any scenario

Again, mids are the main priority, but not the only one

Look at every team above us and even some below on the ladder.

Each one has two and most three mids better than our best mid in Dawson.

And the gap between Dawson and the rest of our mids is large.


Inability to identify and draft an elite mid since Dangerfield is the catalyst to all our problems right now.

3 top 25 pick plus trade next years first into this year and all of a sudden 4 pick in top 25. Surely we can find a midfielder or 2 there
