Speaking to Zero Hanger, Steele flagged that both Bytel and Clark have an opportunity to prove themselves under Lyon early into the new season as a host of senior midfielders are kept to the sidelines.

"We've had our injuries, there's no denying that," the St Kilda captain said. "We've been stretched a little bit.

"It's just gonna put a little bit more of an onus on myself and Brad Crouch to step up and drive the standard.

"Blokes like Hunter Clark and Jack Bytel, who might've not had a full opportunity in the midfield previously, they get their chance now.

"It's just about encouraging them as much as possible and making them feel like they're going well. It's pretty normal to be left out of the side here and there and have your troubles with confidence.

"So we've got a really pump their tyres up, because they're going to be crucial for us."

Steele sounds hungry. Tempting.

Yeo is the better option IMO for only 15k more than Clark. Injuries withholding of course which nobody can predict.

Taking both is way to risky on the same line.

Anyone keen on Petracca?
I know he has more variance, but he looks to be in great shape, no niggles, and to have a bit of shit on his liver about the way they bowed out last year.
Dees also look good in general.
Can convince yourself of anything, I guess.

Was encouraging that he got the 9 tackles, means the shoulder must be alright.
Certainly more encouraging than Parish off his outing in that price bracket.

Strong chance of DPP this year. Also drops a lot in price at some point every year. Just imo, but seems one you leave as an upgrade target.

Clarry into my side by rd 6 is a non negotiable so was starting him and I am one who does see a buying opportunity for Laird at a reduced price at some stage with Crows mid rotation spread.
For the first time I am considering an early fade on both to start , wondering if anyone else similar ?

Clarry with first up scores from 2022 with this years opponents

The Desk first up scores from 2022 excl Freo who Laird didn’t play so using his avge

Captaincy risk acknowledged but happy to look elsewhere for first 5 rounds.
Obviously best guessing but wanting to lift the risk factor this year and way out of my comfort zone.

I feel like you need at least one of them in your team, both is overkill as you’ll definitely need the money for other lines.

It's a difficult choice.

Laird looked a million bucks in the preseason games. I'm going him and hoping he does better than your projections :p

Oliver I never got all last year, and swore I would start him, but......you can't have them all. I'm hoping Goodwin keeps giving him time at half back for a while. I can't see it lasting, but Melbourne have been talking about more midfield rotations. Even a small drop off in CBA's and a down game (vs WC when he cbf?) and his price should come down a bit.

It's splitting hairs but at that price it's small margins anyway. Essendon at AO in round 5 is frightening though. He could score 250.

Think a few clubs are doing this and may be spreading the mid points a bit , I like the GWS mids who seem a tighter rotation this year and more of a possession game plan.

Yeah the DRSC pod mentioned that. GWS were Perryman, Green, Kelly and Cogs. I suspect that loosens up a bit and at least one more gets some time (hoping Callaghan). Cogs and Kelly aren't strangers to niggles either.

Bulldogs was a pretty even spread between Bont, Macrae, Smith, Libba and Treloar too.

What's the knock on C.Mills?

He has a finger injury at the moment expected to play Round 1 but there are question marks over where he will be playing and his role.
As the 5th highest price Midfielder you want him playing in the Midfield. There are better options cheaper and I'm surprised he is in 5% of teams.

Jeez I hope he gets a few games at half forward. Mills, Trac, Gawn all being forwards will be amazing.

Dogs fans and others, was there a particular reason why Macrae scored 'poorly' (at least in comparison to his usual very high standards) in the second half of last season? Bevo, too much competition, just out of form? And are you picking him this season and why/why not. Torn between him and Steele as my last mid, know Steele's injury impacted scoring at times last season but thinking Macrae might bounce back to 2018-21 levels with Dunkleys absence.

Seemed a bit out of sorts, looked tired, played out on the wing for quarters. Seemed to spend more time on the bench than before but he’s usually pretty high time on ground.
