I think people have to realise that, due to a billion dollar lawsuit and evidence tgat people are severely suffering later in life due to concussion, choosing to bump is no longer a 'football act'

The fact is that Logue could have gone lower, but he chose to ignore the ball and bump. This is going to be a suspension every time in the current environment

What the * is that? No one was injured, the outcome is as good as it gets, logue could have been injured if they are both running at speed. This makes me want to spew
Unfortunately 'any' head contact is now medium impact regardless of the actual impact to the other player.

in order to avoid suspension when some dumbass is running full pelt at you, you have to... put your head lower to make sure you get a massive concussion, and don't do anything to protect yourself from contact.

how can these people ******* live with themselves?
Surely thats grounds for an appeal? Their own summaries are ******ed.

As much as people don't like it, this was always going to be the outcome in the current climate. The AFL need to be seen to be doing everything they can to get this action out of the game. The fact that Day didn't suffer concussion merely reduces the punishment from a few games to one game. It's difficult for players and supporters alike to get used to a player receiving a suspension for something that would've been on the highlights package 10 years ago, but things have changed and the competition has both a legal and social obligation to this course of action.

he didn't choose to ignore the ****ing ball though. he was going for the ball until at the very last split second he realised he had to brace for coming impact. they're asking guys to completely ignore their instinct to protect their heads, because the guy running towards you is also ignoring his. this will reward players who dangerously lead with their heads, and it's punished one who had the instinct and reaction time to protect himself. the opposite of what they purportedly want to achieve.

And yet (not having a go at you) the TV stations that carry the product will continue to show collisions to advertise the game.

Another nail in the coffin. I just don't like footy anymore, it's lost it's soul. Love North still, but the game is a shadow of it's glory years.

Call me an antiquated old codger, but I'm going to get my 70's VFL DVD out and watch some proper footy collisions.
In the first round of the SANFL U16 and U18 there were over 80 referrals to the tribunal for head high contact. The umps were instructed to refer any sort of high contact. 60 odd were thrown out.

There is so much pressure on the sport to avoid lawsuits like the one that has just come about, that they are cracking down on anything. It would just be good to get some sort of consistency.

So Logue cops a week because of Buddy Franklin's massive bump where he actually ran pas the ball and went high, and Kysaiah's spear tackle. Because that's the vibe right now. We ignore the evidence right before our eyes because it's just the way the wind's been blowing recently.

There are always alternative ways to contest for every player who collides with another.

The ‘pick and choose’ who to suspend is the corrupt part.
I don't think that's even true here. Griffin's mistake was that he decided to contest the ball at all, he was going for it until the very last moment where his instinct kicked in. What they're saying with this verdict is he shouldn't contest the ball, if there's another player running towards the loose ball with worse technique and reaction times than you, you have to just hang back and let him go for it.

Contact sport mate. Time for players to sign individual waivers.

I disagree. I think he absolutely could have gone lower, and although we don't like it a split second decision is still a decision
