We traded 1 and 1 for 2,3 and 14 that is pathetic.

The guy is hopeless he constantly gets out negotiated.

He does however do ok at trading on draft night.

We didn't trade 1 & 1, it was Judas & 1. Schnoz did pretty well in this deal considering the mummy's boy hung us out to dry. The alternative would have been to hold biddy boy to his contract for another 12 months, no way would we be looking at the same return a season later.

Probably the night we drafted him still reckon his manager was talking very early last year with port on how to get him back to Adelaide
We would have traded with the Crows or left them to take him at pick 2 if he made it clear he wanted to stay in Adelaide.

I'm certain JHF and his crew had a plan to get him to Port long before he was drafted by us.

Except... it turns out taking JHF was clearly the right option because Wardlaw and 14 is better than what they were offering. Certainly better than just taking... Finn Callaghan? Josh Rachele? Who else was even available at that pick and not a father/son? No one who's nearly as good as George Wardlaw and Pick 14.

It was clearly the plan. If we had traded with Crows he could not have used the go home factor. We didn’t really have much of a choice when he and his manger made the right noises, and ultimately broke a promise to sign an extension before round one.
Integrity is important, and there is nothing courageous about his conduct at all.

Hopefully he ends up with as many premierships as apple eating Buckley. (excluding the SANFL.:$)

Sorry to intrude but reading a lot of comments regarding JHF, I can’t see how any North supporter has any form of feeling ripped off? Blokes an absolute flog that drinks his own bath water and you nabbed imo a much better prospect in Wardlaw plus pick 14. I don’t even think jhf would be best in his draft year in 3 years time

He's already a distant, distant second in his draft year to Daicos. I've been invested in the Port death ride for the sake of our draft order, don't care about them anymore, in fact I wish JHF well. He's Port's problem now. He might be a champion but he's got a lot of growing up to do and whoever their next coach is is going to be tearing their hair out trying to make that happen. I think JHF is the kind of high-maintenance ego that can make or break a club, who can only get away with hogging all the coach's attention because of how good they are when they can be bothered. It's got to be frustrating having that as a teammate. Wardlaw is a much better cultural fit as well as probably a better player. Not going to be sore if he turns out to be a champion because we won't have missed out on anything, he was never going to do that for us.

I guess it’s more like you can see how he performed this year, probably more similar to how he performed in his U/18 year. And when you compare it to whatever it was that he was doing when he was homesick playing for us, there is a stark contrast. I’d imagine people would be offering more than what they did last year compared to this year for JHF.

But you’re right. It all became too weird incestuous between JHF, Ken, Port and his mum that we should thank god you helped us get Wardlaw and we can forget about it.

When do you think he decided that he didn't want to be ay the club.
well I can't say I know anymore on that than anyone else. But I will speculate that a teenager doesn't walk into a trade period to more or less instantaneously receive an offer of 6 years x 800 without a fair bit of ground work having been done by both sides of the negotiation. I was also struck by the Port announcement regarding his medical condition, which the club (Port) said they became aware of during the trade period, which makes me think JHF was not completely frank about his aches and pains (to anyone) until the deal had been agreed, some time prior to that trade period

I don't know about ripped off - there's a few who have the genuine belief that we should have got more in the trade (on the grounds that there were effectively 2 picks 1s to trade etc), but the general consensus is we're better off without JHF. Disruptive influence (admittedly under a poor coach), but the biggest issue (at least imo) was a support group around him pretty consistently undermining our club, including public advocates like the failed firefighter

Give the man some credit, he made the best of a very bad situation last year. We turned Sheezel (who we would have taken with pick 1) into Sheezel, Wardlaw, Pick 14 and them some. We dropped down one spot in the draft and lost a talented but petulant down hill skier. What more did you want from the trade? FFS.
Essentially swap Wardlaw and 14 for JHF if we are taking Sheezel anyway +steak knives. Would've preferred more than the steak knives on top if im being honest. Maybe I'm still haunted by the CCJ trade as well but that was just emotionally what I felt at the time. Yes he was dealt a bad hand and sometimes you always want more. Just we will be screwed out f any decent assistance package from the AFL

Did I miss something? Is Ken gone?

Insert Gary Ablett (snr) for the rest. Not saying JHF is Ablett on the field but but the way you describe it off field...

The one silver lining if we don't get Reid (assuming he goes 1) will be not having the hoopla with the number 1 pick. Everything that happened with Judas last year has turned me off from ever wanting such attention again. Every week....good, bad, indifferent there just seemed something going on.

Has he not nominated yet? Surely leaving it this late is abnormal

There's a school of thought he and his management don't think it's a good move for his career and the Dogs don't particularly think it's a good move for them either.

He's going to be behind Naughton, JUH, Darcy, Busslinger (With another Darcy coming through the system soon).

The Dogs need midfielders and have spent so much draft capital on KPP recently it's ridiculous. They haven't taken a midfielder in the top 50 of the draft since Bailey Smith 6 years ago.

Would be akin to Sam Harris as an inside mid coming through this year at the top of the draft ahead of all our picks.

Agreed I’m happy JHF is gone his attitude was rubbish and our support sucked.

I respect what other people think however I do believe we could of got more. He is a talent everyone knows that and would of had the same hype to the level of Reid maybe more ( I reckon it’s about the same).

Why I mention Reid is because I don’t believe West Coast would accept 2 and 14 for 1 same deal. Same go home factor same hype.

Anyways I just wanted more from my club and I don’t think Rawlings is a great negotiator.

To many make a excuse for him when he drops the ball just because he’s one of our own or has a bias.

but what is the extra you think he should have got? It's OK to think he should have gotten better. But what? I can't see any other scenario where there was any more to get.

Well let's say the roles were reversed would we accept that deal with reid? We would all be jumping up and down saying no. So that's the answer

That's the difference between BF fantasy and reality.

All this "shoulda demanded moar" is just people wanting to flex.

The campaigner was a cancer, we wanted draft capital to team Wardlaw with Sheezel, we got it and some more. Sign the paperwork and move on. Leave the posing to Dildoro'.
