Also at the VFL GF I ran into a mate who is involved at Northern knights. His opinion on Caddy is enormous, can't believe he could fall outside the top 5.
The other is Will Green. Said he will take a few years to be AFL ready, but whichever side invests in him won't regret it.
I really rate Caddy hope our recruiters do too

Curtin signed off on his draft year by helping Claremont to another WAFL Colts premiership. He was a significant presence in the midfield for the first three quarters, helping Claremont dominate in that area, before being dropped back into defense in the fourth to try and help stem the tide with Perth controlling territory. One knock on his performance for the day was his kicking efficiency which was uncharacteristically poor.

You'd feel pretty certain taking him if he was a gun contested mark or was lightning quick off the mark but Sphynx's Scrimshaw, who was also touted as a mid before becoming a tall HB, was a really good comparison.

I actually compared Arie Schoenmaker to Scrimshaw.

Curtin has shown plenty of times this season he can defend one-on-one when playing as a key back. Schoenmaker doesn't defend at all, like Scrimshaw.

Curtin is a bit different.

I will cut him a bit of slack though, very rarely do you see young KPD's exhibit amazing contested and intercept marking at underage level.

Usually it's something that blossoms at AFL level, which is a reason their hit rates are a lot lower than most other positions imo.

Oh, yeah sorry. That was Schoenmaker. The fact he can defend makes him different from Scrimshaw but I'm still a little concerned he won't be a spectacular full back like you'd want from a top 5 pick. His straight line speed just doesn't look incredible.

One thing with Caddy is you know he would be 100% invested in the club. It wouldn't surprise me if we took him at 3.
Curtin could be anything, projecting years down the track he could be a powerful player.
Just seems like taking him at 3 isn't smart management of our draft picks even though I do want him.

I'd much rather we take Curtin at 2 and try to turn pick 3 into something in the 6-10 range (where Caddy should go) + a F2

It depends what others want and are willing to trade.

If we don't want McKercher then we could easily trade that pick back because others will trade up for him.

I would rather draft our two top guys at picks 2 and 3 and then make a play for GCs pick by using later picks to get Caddy.

But if Caddy is our number 3 and we can't move back then take him at 3.

Just home from the VFL GF.
I’ve watched Mannagh closely in all finals and he’s miles ahead of some on our list.
Covers the ground, uses it well, can finish, has a knack of popping up in the right spots but why I like him for us is his ability to get on the end of a chain of disposals.
Could you give a run down of Moyle’s, Hollands and Graham’s game for Gold Coast? Think these could all be handy targets for the trade period

Yeah sorry I'm not advocating we should take Caddy at pick 3 but I wouldn't be surprised if we do given Brady's tall comments.
I'm not convinced on Caddy as a top 5 pick with his kicking/skills but he is also very raw so who knows in 4-5 years he might be a Charlie Curnow. I would do as you say trade back for pick 5 or 6 and get an extra asset if we were to take Caddy or O'Sullivan.
But I also think the Demons would be looking at Watson/Duursma/Caddy at pick 5 but they could also use a Sanders or McKercher in the middle so Caddy might be gone before pick 5, but it depends where the clubs rate him compared to McKercher/Curtin/Duursma/Watson/Sanders/O'Sullivan. If we get the GC pick then that opens things up for O'Sullivan or Caddy but we'll have some competition for it so it's not a given we get it.

Thought Hollands was very good, played more mid minutes than I expected. Moyle was up against inferior opposition. Hard to judge his game, dominated hit outs and was just ok around the ground. Graham lacks mobility to play at AFL level in my opinion.

One player I hope we keep right away from is Chol, has some very bad habits in his game.
