Right then stuff it, Sanders, Curtin, and O’Sullivan. Or we’ll take Reid instead of Curtin if WCE want to play nice.
I said this last week.
It'd be a pretty big stfu to the league by taking both talls back to back and fixing our backline for the next decade.
If there was a decent player available at ports pick I wouldn't be against it.
Bit sad to lose out on Watson though.

BoomerRoo what’s the word on The Kerch? Surely we’re into him at 3 at least.
Simply put Passmore it depends on pick 2 really. We certainly love what we see from Colby, as everyone does, but personally, I think we're leaning towards Curtin, then Watson (as long as we get access to Ryley).

Even though we're quietly confident of who will be where, it's still the 1st week of September, there's plenty to play out which will invariably effect our Plan A, Plan B and everything through to Plan WTF just happened. Trades and delisting's will be telling.....

I can say, that some of the recruiters I talk to, say Reid is a "list luxury" for us, unlike Curtin, who fills a "team based need".

Curtin and Mckercher. I just can’t see how you can take wizard over mckercher the more I watch video of the two. Watson won’t be able to play anywhere else. No chance as a mid at afl level. McKercher could play mid wing hf or hb I rekon

Plan WTF just happened will be a winner.

I've seen a fair few on here mention trading next years 1st for Gold Coat pick. What is this based on? It seems fraught with danger as we are likely to be bottom 2-4 next year. What is the reasoning behind this? In say that would be great to bring in another top end talent a year earlier

The comments I’ve read are that next year at this stage looks stocked at the top with midfielders and this year - with Watson and some good talls - might be a better fit for what we need.

Honestly to me it feels more like a way to get around the difficulty of choosing from a range of good options in this year‘s top bunch.

if we have to spend 16 as part of the deal on Reid, we can get a KPP with it.

Pick 4 is in the sweet spot, where its high enough to get elite talent, and not low enough get absorbed by a sanders bid.

I’m not sure its as desirable to give up f1 if we get Curtin with pick 2. but if we do get Reid, it would mean we could get sanders, Watson and o’sullivan too.

Tbf every year people read about all the draft prospects and want to trade future picks to get more of them

On a related note...

I just checked the records, and sure enough we're the only team in the AFL who hasn't recruited a KPP in the national draft since 2019.

In the time since we got Comben, most teams have drafted several key forwards and backs.

So Reid sounds great, Sanders sounds great, but I think its reasonable to expect the club to find a way to draft a couple good talls this year.

It doesn't require using f1. We could get Curtin and keep 16 for a KPF. We could trade an F2 back into this draft. We could use the Mckay compo to trade down for multiple picks, and get O'Sullivan. Or, if we rate O'Sullivan high enough, we could go after gold coast's pick.

But whatever the case, I think we need a couple good young talls.

I think The Wizard will be a little disappointed with his game here. With Eastern well on top and plenty of goals being kicked, a big bag could have been coming his way but he never quite put it all together on the day.

Note: the broadcast was having technical difficulties, so we missed out on the first half of quarter 1.

Was actually named on the wing this week. Can see that speed and forward craft again.

It's the delayed gratification marshmallow test*. Most people here on Big Footy demonstrate a child's level of impulse control and need for immediate gratification.

* What is the marshmallow test?
The Marshmallow Test is a psychological experiment conducted by Walter Mischel in the 1960s. In this study, a child was offered a choice between one small reward (like a marshmallow) immediately or two small rewards if they waited for a short period, usually 15 minutes, during which the tester left the room.

What does the marshmallow test measure?

The marshmallow test measures a child’s ability to delay gratification by offering them a choice to eat a marshmallow immediately or wait for a reward for an additional marshmallow after a short period.
It assesses self-control, impulse control, and the capacity to delay instant gratification, which is connected to future success and self-regulation skills.

I’d usually be against trading a f1 but keen on it this years for a few reasons
  • our f1 will never be more valuable (I hope)
  • early picks next year project to be midfielders. Worst case scenario is we miss out an an LDU or a Will Ashcroft type midfielder if we finish last
  • extra one year development time
  • our list balance is skewed and 3 top ten picks give us a chance to correct it

And it is just the one marshmallow next year, there is no additional one…

There are always two marshmallows. According to Kevin Sheedy, Mark Dawson is the pink marshmallow, Greg Miller is the white one.

My understanding is that the majority of next year seems to be mids at ths top end and they're not very good.
So trade out of that draft because mids aren't a position of need for us and then look to bring in some of the super talent this year.

Not to pot your reasoning, but I feel like that's a pretty big worst case scenario.

Leave me out of the Reid and Curtin sweepstakes. I'd rather trade down for 3 (Colby), 4 (Watson) and another bite at the top 10 for a proper key defender (O'Sullivan).

We need a McKay replacement to take on the big boys. Not sure Curtin is that.

Colby and Watson fill specific needs.

Reid I don't get the generational talent tag.

Dunno, I can see the sense in it. Perhaps based on a mid dominant draft next year and a list balance perspective,,,,,having the GC pick, would enable us to get Curtin, McKercher, O'sullivan, and Sanders. Get a year development into them. The question for me on that would, where would McKercher and Sanders land in next years draft. You gotta think high still....so for me it kinda makes sense to address needs AND still end up with mid talent. Downside, is if we land another wooden spoon and miss out on yet another "generational talent". Then again, you gotta think Suns need points in this years draft so a probably more inclined to trade back in the draft?

That's not true, they've got more than enough points already.
If they trade out 4, they just need something like pick 20 to make up the difference.
Easily achievable if Hollands is going. Let alone Chol.
They really need to bank points for next year, where they have more academy kids coming through.

Wasn't the 2014 draft the one we tried to fix our backline long term, and ended up recruiting defenders who didn't make it?
