Who do posters think North will take at 2? This would impact MFC's willingness to trade in to 3, e.g 6 + 11 for 3 + 17?
North splitting pick 3 has never really seemed likely. Maybe to facilitate getting pick 1 is the only scenario that seems possible.

If we take Duursma, I'll be very surprised if we take another forward in Collard with a pick in our teens.

Draft Watchers - if Curtain slips to 9 is it worth packaging up our 2 of our 3 late teen picks plus a future 2nd/3rd to nab him?

Mick Ablett raves about him and stated he would be happy to pick him at 1 and his vision looks good to my untrained eye.

Yes. Same goes for O'Sullivan.

With things as they are it looks like McKercher is the lock. I'd be surprised if we did that trade though, the Dogs just traded three first rounders for 4. While I don't really subscribe to draft value in the instance of a straight trade that still benefits Melbourne by about 300 points and we're the ones getting you up the order.

Thanks. It all depends on where clubs see the quality cliffs. Melbourne might fancy someone in the top 3. If North sees a cliff at 6 (will be 7) and 11 (will be at least 13) then it may be an attractive trade for you regardless of the points.

I suspect we may have the same target in mind at 3 so I'm definitely watching that space. I also suspect we would prefer to know where we sit on the trade for 1 before this trade if that makes sense.

* Didn't appear in some draft watchers top 30s so gave a score of 31 for that player from that draft watcher
While all the talk is Mckercher and Duursma if we keep 2 and 3, I seem to remember Phillips being talked about as the best pure mid in his draft but he was ranked what around 7-9 on most draft boards. From memory we talked up his leadership potential etc in what was obviously a covid impacted draft. Just saying I wont be surprised if we take both Tassie boys at 2 and 3 OR Curtin.

The cliff is just before Geelong, careful if you're down that way lest you fall off like they have.

A couple of players who I think will likely be available beyond pick 50 or in the rookie draft that would be worthwhile discussing:

Cam Nyko - 180cm half back who is a booming kick despite his size. He is a good competitor and has good balance between his offensive and defensive game. Athletically, he is relatively quick and has a well developed tank, Had some Solid games for Vic Metro and avg'd 20 disposals, 3 marks and 3 tackles at NAB level. The only knock on him would be his kicking consistency.

Alex Holt - 181cm half back who is strong in the contest and has a damaging kick. Another who is a natural footballer who can accumulate and intercept, but also has the ability to lockdown on the opposition. Early days, he was considered to be a top 20 pick, but he had inconsistent form throughout the year for both SA and at Reserves/Under 18 level. Also, has strong leadership credentials. The knock would be his inconsistent season, and potential scope for upside.

Billy Wilson - 183cm half back who has some serious wheels. He uses his combination of speed and agility to launch offensive attacks from half back. While he is a solid mark, he doesn't intercept all that often. Played a few games through the midfield and showed he can find the footy in the contest too. Only knocks would be that he can seemed rushed when he has some pressure on him, also seems to get caught out defensively from time to time. All of which can be improved.

Joe Fonti - raw 189cm half back who has line breaking speed and neat intercept marking. Uses his speed and agility to launch plays from half back. Also at home using his vertical leap to mark and intercept. Avg'd 17 disposals and 5 marks per game at colts level. Lacks some composure with ball in hand and his defensive play needs work, but there is raw potential there from an athletic point of view.

Riley Weatherill - 195cm key forward who only went goal less once throughout the NAB league season. Kicked 37.22 from 15 games and avg'd 10 disposals and nearl5 marks per game. Isn't an accumulating key forward but has natural forward craft and footy IQ. Has good leading patterns and works hard to create space for teammates. He is far better marking on the lead than in contested marking situations but that may improve has he gains strength and develops his body.

McKercher. Teams will want to trade up for Duursma. Would take 6+11 for 3. Wouldn't think anything else would go back to Melbourne in that trade.
Yes depends on whether you rate say Duursma higher than say Curtin/Sanders plus Wilson/Windsor.

You could give us 18 in the deal and still get whomever you like in that range at 15 and 17 - 2, 6, 11, 15, 17 should give a good haul.

You're dreaming if you think you're getting 18 back in that trade. We've seen how much it costs to move up within the top 8 picks. The team trading up has to pay a significant surplus. A straight swap of 6 and 11 for 3 might not even get it done, Melb might have to give up more.

I wouldn't hate that either, in fact looking at a bunch of different scenarios on how this plays out there's quite a few that i see as good.

But like other have been saying, this draft probably isn't actually as shallow as previously suggested. Even with those teens picks getting pushed back by players that we never on the cards anyway, we could actually fill some kpp holes with those teen picks with a surprisingly high level of talent and ability. Not necessarily superstar top 3 players, but we'd be getting 2 of those anyway with 2 and 3.

I’m just really keen on Reid.

Points don’t matter unless bidding. Perceived value of players matter.

But they are trading draft picks not players. And no one knows what players they will lead to.

I think we are all aware that points don’t actually matter - it’s certainly been repeated on here a million times. But if some posters want to use them as a reference point I think they should be able to without the usual suspects finger wagging (not meaning you specifically!)
