Review 2023 National Draft Review Thread II [McKercher, Z.Duursma, Goad, W.Dawson, Hardeman, Maley]

North splitting pick 3 has never really seemed likely. Maybe to facilitate getting pick 1 is the only scenario that seems possible.

We will be taking two of the first three picks.

Only question is what they are.

Is there something specific about Collard that makes him a flight risk more than other WA players, or just because he’s from WA and we’re skittish after our former No. 1 pick leaving?

It's not uncommon certain traits might be exaggerated to assist that player sliding in the draft to a home based club.

You're dreaming if you think you're getting 18 back in that trade. We've seen how much it costs to move up within the top 8 picks. The team trading up has to pay a significant surplus. A straight swap of 6 and 11 for 3 might not even get it done, Melb might have to give up more.

I don't advocate it, but I wouldn't consider anything other than 6 and 11 for 3, and they can forget about 18 - 50% premium is what the desperate need to pay

Duursma looks like a great talent however with it known that he wants to play with his brother, would we be better off picking Sanders at 3 to play with his mate McKercher?
Could that be our plan all along?
Would hate to pick Duursma to only lose him to the scum in the future.
I honestly think that Sanders and McKercher could be 2 of the best talents in this pool anyway, so would be happy with this outcome.

Pretty sure he took some time off mid year for family reasons. Think it stems from that.

Though reports were that he interviewed well at the combine

But they are trading draft picks not players. And no one knows what players they will lead to.

I think we are all aware that points don’t actually matter - it’s certainly been repeated on here a million times. But if some posters want to use them as a reference point I think they should be able to without the usual suspects finger wagging (not meaning you specifically!)
I agree on the idea. I would say though if the Demons traded for pick 3 they know who they are getting. There is a lot more certainty then at pick 6.
I don’t mind the trade but not sure we send back 18. Also if we make that trade my gut tells me it’s to move to 1.
Pick 6 will be Watson, Saunders or Curtin.

I wouldn't read too much into that, most draftees say they'd love to play for the club they BFAAK, with a sibling etc. the reality is once they're in a club environment all that is quickly forgotten. We need to back ourselves and our culture in.

We could look to target his brother Willem Duursma who will be eligible for the 2025 draft. He is looking as though he will end up being a tall forward prospect. Only just turned 16 and is already 189cm.

Some decent writeup/summaries in there. Can't believe how much the likes of Freijah, Callinan, Philactides, Hall, Moir and McCauliffe have seemingly fallen.

I'm still of the opinion that both Freijah and Hall are top 20 on talent alone.

I don't think these guys have necessarily fallen. There is so much talk for the top end that these guys that are probably 30+ just don't get spoken about. I'd be pretty confident that all will be gone by the end of round 2. Also, just because it's written in the press or BF doesn't mean it's accurate. ;)

So we are a sure thing to rather take Murphy and Schoenmaker or one of them this draft if we miss out on Curtain/O'Sullivan?

Did we determine yet if jack callinan is part of our nga?

He's not. The NGA was shut down at the start of covid so the only player we registered was Sanders and that was just pure hope.

Nothing is a sure thing when this club goes to draft.
