Review 2023 National Draft Review Thread II [McKercher, Z.Duursma, Goad, W.Dawson, Hardeman, Maley]

I like McKercher (just pointing this out again because there are some who seem to think I don't rate him, which isn't the case).

My problem is I really like LDU, Wardlaw, and Simpkin as our core midfield too. Who of those three does McKercher replace, because it's not really as if any of those three can play a HF/HB type role. They're all pure midfielders.

Not one of those 3 have played in a final. Not sure how you could be so confident in a core midfield at this stage in our development.

That aside, Mckercher brings something different to all of them.

I don’t think that you could say Simpkin is a 100% lock 1st choice midfield rotation. I could see someone like McKercher pushing him out in a few years

Simpkin should if been moulded into a small forward. Not a mid. Development team cooked that

WC trading up for 7 with f1 makes some sense if they are going to trade for our f1.

Otherwise it makes not a lot of sense...?

Thats not what I said. What I said was is Kerch doesn’t bring much to our midfield because we have all his s**t covered. He’s the most overrated draft prospect ive ever seen. This board has gone nuts over him and I just can’t see it.

Posters also didn’t want scheezel or Wardlaw last year. This is a post that could come back to bite. He has a lot of elite traits and improves our midfield.

Sitting with it I'm now trying to work out who I would be most disappointed that we didnt get out of our options for 2+3

Given McKercher, Watson, Curtin, Dursmma, Sanders are the options.

Sanders - Good player, bad fit for our current list, who cares.

Watson - Would be nice cream, given where we are I don't want to put our future in a 170 small forward.

Dursmma - Has poise and talent would fit well if George fires too, I'd be very happy if we picked him up, but would I really care if he wasnt there ..... prolly not

McKercher - Talent alone says hes the pick, outside and spread is something we need all the time, while a mid isn't really a need, don't think you ignore potential like this.

Curtin - We need pretty much everything he has, but will he deliver that in the AFL and will that be as a tall mid or key back, there is risk but if it works its a dream pick up for us.

Based on that I think im on the McKercher, Curtin train.
