400-500K Mid Price Madness Battle Royal

Tarry Thomas v James Worpel v Wayne Milera v Toby Mclean

Pretty much 100% on Mclean, currently tossing up between fitting Worpel or Thomas into my side....
I have currently all of the above EXCL Worpel .....both Thomas & Milera are looking like being the QB across HB this season ....but early days

Treloar still in rehab group only helps McLean :padlock:

If Milera is playing HBF, what’s that mean for Dawson?

Really don't know ....the Crows have so many HB options ....Dawson a PS watch, but I'm suspecting he'll lose those valuable kick-in free points

Interesting, Milera burnt me last year, it will be interesting which of these 4 goes bang or bust, and if anyone is ballsy (or silly) enough to start all 3-4 of them.

Hoping if Tarryn has the role round 1 Clarko will obviously have wanted that to stay locked. Worpel I legitimately have no idea, could go 90+ or could get dropped just as easily 😅

Milera I feel has a chance of losing the role if he doesn't perform in the first couple of rounds 🤷‍♂️

McLean seems a lock 🔒

What's the go with Milera?

This is all sounding very similar to preseason 2022.. then he spudded up round 1 and dropped into the abyss only to resurface for preseason 2023...

I can’t do Milera. Saying he’s going to half back is very different to winning and keeping the job. Not for me.

Xavier Ellis have a snippet on the Moreira Magic pod that stuck with me and got Worpel booted off my team. He said he saw a Hawks training session or match sim or something and Mitchell baked him when he got an easy plus 6 by spreading wide. Apparently Mitchell told him he didn’t want him doing that and his job was not to get those and instead to be inside. If true it seems Mitchell doesn’t want the ball in Worpels hands and wants him inside pushing it out. Not hugely Fantasy friendly maybe? Enough of a flag for me to look elsewhere.

I'm probably the keenest I've every been on Milera ....he's been in most my PS teams the last 4 years, only to fail to make the cut for R1

Last year he started the year like a rusty gate, playing FWD which is his worst Fantasy position .....he was much better in the back 3rd of the season & apparently is very sharp thru this PS .

A switch to HB, his most Fantasy friendly role is great news ....25 YO, his body issues hopefully behind him ...and now he's had some continuity of playing & training :whitecheck:

I heard that tidbit also. I think it was a couple years back now.
And the situation was that Worpel ran sideways/backwards for a cheapie +6 rather than running forward to the drop of the ball.
Mitchell roasted him - as it's not benefit to the side to be a seagull.
That obviously resulted in Worpel being on the outer as he either didnt have the fitness/ability or willpower to gut run to the next contest.

Whether or not he has worked on that and come good is yet to be seen.

That's a better summary than I gave of what was said and adds important context. The point remains in my mind though, even if he has worked on the gut running etc and run his way out of the dog house, will that role suit him as a career move but be unhelpful for Worpedo coaches? I don't think it's a high risk move to be honest given the options you could go too if he flames out but I'm not up for the dance in that regard with him.

It is true, its not as simple as it seems on face value just because he's cheap.

Alot of boxes need to be ticked preseason.

But at the very least he knows how to find the footy. With no Titch/Omeara someone has to pick up that mid time/points.

Added bonus with Milera is he will get DOP def (Thomas can’t as a M/F)

He won’t be a keeper but esp if going weaker in def and stronger forward with those big dogs, Def status would be a more valuable position to stash him for longer than you’d be happy keeping him up forward or mid.

On my watchlist but not in my team yet. If he is Def and Dawson moves to a wing he will be in. If both in def he may still be in but less confident as would reduce likelihood of kick ins and other cheap ball that would be going via Dawson (if Dawson pushed up to wing then to me this says Milera has that role)

What do hawks fans think of Cooper Stephens? Couple extra years in the system (Geelongs too) compared to some of Hawthorns other MID options, only 390k which puts him in the same bracket as Hunt, Coffield, Mckenna who we are all considering for our DEF lines. But if he has a consistent midfield role he should easily score more than them you would think?

So basically Stephens as a MID v Hunt/Mckenna/Coffield as DEF?

I think it comes down to who the ‘other’ player you will have to field when making a decision.

Paying for Hunt/McKenna down back means fielding another rookie priced midfielder. Whereas if you spent that money on Stephens, you’ll have to field a rookie priced player down back.

I have more faith in the midfield rookies scoring so would rather spend the money down back on Hunt/McKenna then I would on Stephens in the midfield.

Great, everytime I log onto here I read some shit like this and now I've just spent the last 20min decimating my team to bring in Milera of all people 😂

Remember, Milera will also get FWD / DEF status after R6

He's also way too expensive. He's 40k more than McLean who, yes, is injury prone but can actually play footy. I get that dream team and actual footy often exist in these weird parallel universes sometimes but good players also make for good dream teamers. I'd rather just pick a rookie and there's plenty in the forwardline. If he gets DEF then pick McKenna or Coffield. No way is Milera stuffing up my dream team.

Let me know what you guys think.

Each side is a whole.

I can go

Young or Sinclair (98k spare) Or Docherty
Yeo or Angus Brayshaw
J Kelly or Steele
Cerra or Sinn (230k rookie)

Left side gets me alot more mid price players who could build me cash, also 1 less rookie on field.
Right side gets me better premos but 1 extra rookie on field.

Haha can relate. This is why I’m not making a team until a week out from round 1.

And even then I’ll probably still have 50 different versions before the ball is bounced
