“The standout by a mile”: New Cat’s pre-season session blows away Russell
Look away now, Collingwood fans.www.sen.com.au
It’s an absolute blessing to barrack for such a well planned organizationThis seems like we have added 4 legit players who will be pushing for best 22 positions. Bowes obviously ready. Bruhn and Henry both had two years of footy and Clark ..in any other year would probably be a lock for some games if he is performing as reported.

I can always write them out of the willSame… precondition of marriage to change from blues to cats… a house divided cannot stand Strange Cat calder_daddy

My “track watcher” may not be as inside as yours (not that it is a competition!) but hear very similar things…. the two Ollies excite them massively but both still have work to do in committing to the defensive system and consistency (for different reasons). If they do that they will push people out of 23I heard from the best possible source at Geelong:
The team is in a great place. Confident but not arrogant. They have 30 players they are very confident in.
- Ollie Henry will be huge this year, taking marks from everywhere.
- Ollie Demsey will also have an impact
- Holmes is A+
- Bowes will be a welcome addition
- Ratugolea is holding his marks and is required in the backline if SDK goes down
- Mullin has surprised that he can kick long distances with both feet with pinpoint accuracy
- Conway will miss half the season. Danger has lost weight.
It is nothing new but this is as inside as you can get.
The main killer of teams going back to back in flags or having sustained success is injuries. If we have that depth, we will win the flag. The common thing that derails teams from a deep finals run or premiership the year after a flag or GF is injuries or players leaving, either way they are things that kill you during the season. My “track watcher” may not be as inside as yours (not that it is a competition!) but hear very similar things…. the two Ollies excite them massively but both still have work to do in committing to the defensive system and consistency (for different reasons). I also understand that they think they will have plenty of chances to see both SDK and Sav in same side. It may not end up being 1st choice but they are keen to see how it looks and then determine the best first option.
30 into 23 doesn’t go week to week. Great issue to have but even if they have a few injuries they will be leaving out a handful of deserving players every week (they can’t rest more than a couple nor make too many changes week to week). This will be a (nice) headache each week
I can’t believe how different this is from 12 months ago…wow

Bet that wasn't easy ...

We lost Joel from the starting 18, Holmes comes in for him. Normally that would be enough to be excited over, but we now have a good 5 or 6 players who are going to have to dominate the VFL to push their way into the side and thats not only good for our VFL team but it means the AFL guys have to lift as well.
Is your source Dwayne Russell?I heard from the best possible source at Geelong:

Much better than Dwayne. Is your source Dwayne Russell?
And I’m sorry I know you trust your source but I can’t have this Mullin chat and with Sav, the crowd will just need to sneeze and he’ll drop those marks haha
Teams that have had sustained success have had strong VFL teams. Us in 2007-2011, the Hawks during their run, the Tigers during their run.We went against prevailing wisdom last season in that we won it without having a strong VFL side competing in Finals.
Very interested in this season now that we have added depth , more competition for spots and presumably a stronger VFL side
And I have no doubt Clark will kill it in the VFL.Clark I suspect will still get games, its a long season and we will need to rotate and if has earned them, Scott rewards great VFL form with games like we saw last season.
But our midfield is going to be stacked, and with how our gameplan was last year, having more midfield depth absolutely isn't a negative.
Hopefully we throw him straight in the middle. Let him get a year in the guts against bigger bodies. And I have no doubt Clark will kill it in the VFL.
In the AFL side.Hopefully we throw him straight in the middle. Let him get a year in the guts against bigger bodies.
Imagine the insane levels of salt if our pick 7 that we got from Gold Coast having no idea what they are doing, leads our midfield to a premiership. In the AFL side.
I get your cynicism with SAV - built up over a half dozen years of evidence in terms….but I do think the change to behind the ball is potentially a game changer for him. It simplifies footy. He doesn’t need to think about blocking, timing of lead and re-lead, spacing…all the forward craft that isnt natural to him and I think meant that when he went for a mark he was mentally shot!Is your source Dwayne Russell?
