I no i get it i love watching the VFL to find future stars, after seeing MAX in his first game i said he will be a star, he still is my number one, but have interest in a few more.

I agree. It is great to watch the players coming through.
I have no particular player I am following at this stage. Perhaps Dempsey and Henry.

This will be of great interest this year.

I watched Close before he got a game and he appeared to be a cut above. Great to see them develop.

Two great reasons why the club or the league should make the VFL, and WAFL, SANFL etc freely accessible to a wider audience. I would watch the VFL Cats regularly if it were on youtube, or GFC website. At the moment its random.

Neale averaged 2 goals a game in the VFL last year. I realise he has built up his body but I’m struggling to understand the hype. With Hawkins career coming to an end, we all hope he makes it but no guarantees
Ollie Henry nearly kicked 3 goals each time he played VFL last season and wasn't even the main forward target.

Neale looks like he has potential, but I'm not putting my house on him being anything close to "generational".

The reality is that we are not flush with key position players coming through, Neale holds the hope for us I guess.

Fingers crossed he shows plenty.

I still think if Hawks rehab goes well he will go on in 2024 nothing in his game or numbers last year indicated a drop in output from the big man the last two years he's played every game he's a freak of nature age has not wearied him.

The reason why I’m so keen on Neale is pretty simple
He is actually showing that he can play VFL level early on as a KPP and doing it in a young average team.
Even the one AFL game he played he reminded me of the King brothers first season.
Flying at marks, getting his hands to it, just not clunking it.

What insiders?
It seems like your sleep didn’t go too well.

It’s preseason mate. Let stuff work itself out.
Geez, people were hung up on what numbers were allocated, or who was captain.

You won’t even remember the conversation in 6 months. (I’d guess 3 weeks to be honest)

Go watch another replay or something. Human.

Firstly, how dare you. Look how you're talking to me...it's so...disgusting. You really are talking down to me like I'm a piece of sh*t to you.

''What insiders''

''Seems your sleep didn't go well''

''Go watch another replay, human''

Do you have any idea how this makes me feel, or anyone else for that matter? Don't answer that, because it's rhetorical and I honestly doubt you care given your attitude. Read your posts back later, I hope you're proud of your little display here.

Secondly, there's a reason 10 people liked my post in response to your unprovoked attack on me, and no-one liked yours - maybe you should reflect on that and evaluate how you might be perceived.

Lastly, It's not for you to decide what people find important or not. I just said some stuff that excited me, and you've made it your personal mission to drag me down and attack me - for what purpose I do not know. You're acting like I'm so worked up over this, when I literally typed a few lines out - like people have about other players for weeks. I wonder why my post is the hill you've decided to die on.

Does it make you feel better? Are you happy with yourself? I genuinely hope that tearing people down without provocation is bringing you that sweet sense of self-satisfaction you've been searching for. I however have decided I have too much respect for myself and much better things to do with my time, than sit here taking your sh*t, just because you're unable to be a civil in a public forum. I said nothing to you to deserve how you're treating me right now. Mods called this out a month or two back when sh*t really hit the fan, and yet here you are, just randomly picking fights with people and trying to bring them down because you can't move past your own smug ego.

Do not get me wrong, I am furious right now. I am sick of this behaviour on this forum. You have no right to treat people this way. I will not, however, bring myself to your level and continue this sh*t just so you can keep lauding your faux superiority over me.

Seriously, I hope you're happy with the person you've chosen to be. Now I have to take some more time off, because yet another person on here has decided to target me for literally no reason at all, and over a complete nothing comment - and I'm honestly sick to death of it.

Don't respond to me again and do not talk to me again.

Ignored.

Keep posting. I like the interaction even when I disagree with your opinion. In fact that is the point of these forums aren’t they - do somehow try and replicate the banter in a pub or out back at a bbq…sometimes spouting opinions that have no basis and getting feedback - but that feedback should respect the person even if rubbishing the view.

and again the whole point is to fill in time in between watching our team!! 99% of people on here are respectful so let’s just ignore that 1%. That is not to say we shouldn't have different views on players or coaches etc. sure, a lot of of views and projections are frankly a waste of time - but again that is the point!

keep interacting with the rest of us. feel free to disagree with me and I will with you from time to time. But let’s all keep it light and enjoy our team

Some people honestly are incapable of rubbishing an opinion without rubbishing the person - even when it's one of the central tenets of Big Footy.

This isn't the first time and it won't be the last. I'll take some time away again, but it's just getting old now this sh*tty behaviour from sh*tty people. People have enough going on in life without being attacked randomly on what is supposed to be just a forum to talk about footy. You'd think it was a political or human rights discussion the way some people carry on.

Anyway, this has sucked the life out of me tonight, so as I said, I'm gonna take some time away and return when I don't feel so negative towards this place. Is what it is. Can't control how I react any more than I can control how people treat me or others on here. Some people just find joy in bringing others down. It's sad, but what can you do? I am seriously tired of it though.

Catch ya later.

Mate,
Chill out.
The man said he heard from insiders at the club and that is good enough for me.
If he could give details he would.
Any feedback I can get i appreciate it.

I would really prefer to see Ollie forward and Jack back, I think they are both flexible players but that’s where they play their best footy.
Jack was an elite defender 12 months ago and I worry if we play around with him too much he’s going to loose that.
He’s an average forward who provides something because he has the talent to play anywhere. Down back he can be a leader and star for the team.

Ollie has some real forward craft and goal sense I think he’ll be a great addition to our forward line. He can play that 3rd tall sort of role but Rohan plays a unique role that Ollie won’t play.

I hope they’re just giving them experience across the ground and don’t end up switching them.

It’s going to be exciting to see how they can find roles for some of the new players and those who missed out on the flag.

You don't have to go back 12 months.

Doesn’t scream Nathan ablett or Tom Hawkins talent to me personally, but he could do alright
Remember that talent is only half the story though, the other being work ethic. Neale is consolidating his talent by training his butt off, something that Hawkins took years to get right and NAblett never even seriously attempted. Neale may end up being a bust for Geelong but it won’t be because he didn’t put in the effort.

Neale. A crash and bash player. Does he actually hold his marks.? Does he have a footy IQ. ? I will watch closely what happens with his second efforts for ground ball? Young and still raw. Many lead and mark players in the AFL. A Mitch Lewis type? Not a star but role player. Hope I am wrong but I agree overhyped but has potential. But wait and see. Allowing for development.

Hey guys,

After yet another incident of unprovoked aggression and belittling comments (I'm not the only one that this happens to), I've decided that unfortunately I cannot continue to post on this board anymore - and this will be my final sign off (apologies, it's a long one).

I have had a lot happen in my life, as I detailed last time this happened in November, and I just don't have the mental fortitude to cope with posters who seem so intent on bringing others down to their level with their vicious posting that attacks the man and not the topic.

Last time this happened, I had numerous messages, comments and general feedback that was kind, heartfelt and genuinely beautiful and caring in its messaging. Alas, the 1% seem to overawe the 99%, as only the 1% can ruin my day based on comments that mean nothing to them and everything to me. This is basically how I see this board - filled with beautiful people and amazing discussion, but derailed by those who seem to think their opinion means more than the feelings and mental wellbeing of those they choose to bring down whenever they decide you've aggrieved them with your posting - so they need to take you down a peg in their mind.

Unfortunately, I've ultimately come to the conclusion that I and others they dislike on here are nothing but words on a screen to these posters, so they will just attack unprovoked, without care or thought for those sitting behind the screen distraught by how they are treated.

Mods on this board are wonderful people and fantastic at what they do, but they are not superhuman. Unfortunately, they cannot remove something immediately hurtful after it's posted - so someone will always see it and will always be affected. This is why I can't post or be present on here anymore, as I just don't want to have to deal with feeling sh*t at a moments notice and sometimes over literally nothing at all.

We can post anything on here whenever we want, but with that ability comes responsibility. A responsibility to treat them with respect and with consideration, and a responsibility to understand that this is a happy place for many to escape to and discuss that which they have in common and love - the Geelong Football Club and AFL in general. Some people seem to forget this and just make it their mission to bring others down - and I don't want to be here for that anymore.

I genuinely have mostly enjoyed my time and interactions on here, but it is with a heavy heart that I say I can't continue participating, as I don't want my day ruined by slanderous commentary anymore. I've deleted social media in the past for this very same reason, but always kept this place as my 'happy place', treating it as the exception to the rule of toxic online commentary. Alas, while the majority of the time it is the exception, there have now been enough examples where it isn't, and that's enough for me to part ways with it - in order to preserve my mental health and general wellbeing.

I'll still peruse this board and still be present on my AFL Fantasy board as we've cultivated a fun, welcoming community over there (regardless of club, political opinion, tribal rivalries etc.), but this will be my last post on both here and the main board for all the reasons outlined above.

I genuinely wish I was stronger to be able to tolerate the slander and petty arguments that arise over nothing, but I genuinely think that I and others shouldn't have to - as it makes people unhappy, and that's not what I and others come on here to feel. Ignoring doesn't change the commentary that can be directed at you at any moment, by any person, for any reason and without any provocation - so there's no recourse but leaving altogether to stop this from happening.

Life is too short to be upset by idiots who don't even care about you anyway - when there are people who do in your day to day offline life, who can sometimes be taken for granted. It's taken me a while to learn this, but I've finally got there and am grateful that I have.

I could list hundreds of people on here who have enriched my life and who I've had amzing, intelligent, insightful, and at times heartfelt convos with over the years, so thank you to you all - I will be forever grateful to have met you on here. I hope you all have wonderful lives, and I don't regret any of the BS on here, because meeting you all and discussing things as we have, has truly been a wonderful experience.

Take care of yourselves, and hopefully I'll see some of you on the Fantasy board in the future.

Kind Regards (and Go Cats!),

Nick

The good thing about our playing list is we have players, that can play forward back onball wing, Henry brothers can play anywhere.

Mate just grow a pair and block him and get on with it, never let anyone win

Thanks for proving my point, and confirming my decision in literally an instant - nice job.

You are part of the problem. The way you attacked Kobe Gryant over nothing, and you just laugh randomly at people's posts who you think you are stupid to you - it's toxic behaviour, and part of the reason I'm leaving.

There is more to life than 'winning.' 'Growing a pair' doesn't mean just sucking it up and letting people sh*t all over you - it's knowing when to let go and to walk away. You think I have to prove something to you, just because you mock me online without recourse? Mate I couldn't care less what you think about me. I'm leaving because of sh*t like this derailing my day and me not caring enough about the idiots who do it, to continue giving them endless fodder.

Point in case with this interaction, I didn't have you ignored, and now you've told me to 'grow a pair and get on with it' - so I have to see that and feel sh*t from it, and then ignore you afterwards. You still get your little jibe in and get to feel like you've 'owned me' - so why would I continue posting on here and tolerating this sh*t just so people like you can keep doing that to me and bringing me down? No sane person would.

I'm done. Thanks for making it that much easier. Seriously, do better in future.

Enjoy your online 'wins' - whatever that means in the grand scheme of things.

I am not sure he even has the talent part.

Anyone drafted to an AFL club is talented, it becomes a question of how that talent is expressed and applied effectively. I would suggest that almost nobody expected Blicavs to make anything of himself when he was rookied, and for years he was derided by many (remember “elite running patterns” was thrown around a lot) but now we wouldn’t trade him for anything. Perfect example of work ethic over “talent” which by your definition appears to be limited to pedigree.

Have you actually watched him play?
A few times, not as much as others. I just don’t get the hype of being called a “prodigy” and a “generational talent”. God I hope that is true but it seems very far fetched.

Third year for a key forward is the year they need to show something at AFL level. If they can hold their spot third year in the system at AFL level and contribute then there is something there.

Both ablett and Hawkins kicked exactly 32 goals in both their third seasons. I imagine around the league you will find similar contributions from this year talls.

I was more replying initially to the pages of posts claiming he was some special generational talent. Honestly not a topic I want to be proven right about, but it just did make me raise an eyebrow and wonder if I am missing something about Neale that others are seeing.

Yeah fair enough, I wouldn't call him a generational talent either. But he was very exciting to watch in a pretty ordinary VFL team: VFL Showreel, R9: Shannon Neale highlights

Barring injury he will be a player, he has already demonstrated that he will work on his game to the point where he will be considered for selection in place of Hawkins for round 1. As to whether anyone with 2 games under their belt is a “generational talent” is purely speculative whether it’s Neale, Hawkins or Buddy Franklin so I’m not sure why you would even take issue with it given how much speculation happens in every predictive discussion on the forum.
