It would be interesting to get a break down of each players clearance/s to score ratio. I dont know who does better than the other, but I get the feeling that certain players shanked kicks are intercepted more than others. I dont know if our forwards are as good as reading it off the boot/s as many opposition defenders - perhaps a better adherence to structure will improve that?

Then we have Ross who sometimes has a funny little role, receiving the handball from the guy who cleared it, and chipping it to someone else.

Here's the score involvements from 2022.

No Gresh in 2021 , but look how low Dunstan was, while his clearance rate was right up there.
How do they define score involvement do you know?

With King being at the top is it score per possession or the possession leading to a score eg Gresham kicks to King who goals or both?

Ps I found the Champion Data definition -

Score Involvement: Number of scoring chains where a player was involved with either a disposal, hitout-to-advantage, kick-in or knock-on. If a player has two disposals in the same scoring chain, he is credited with one score involvement.

Please don't even mention Gresh in the same breath as GAJ, Gresh will never get anywhere near these stats ever

Calm down, the suggestion isn’t that he will be gaz jnr it’s that he could play a similar style of game.

I agree but the hope would be we can find someone similar to him as a mid so he can play mainly forward because he is also our best small forward.
Thats the point people are making

Gresham is quite clearly in our best midfield, but we also have a pretty average (at best) midfield

If he were at Richmond, Geelong or Melbourne etc I doubt those clubs would be using him 80% in the midfield.

They have better mids or mids on a similar level so it makes sense to also give him big minutes up forward where he's proven to be a genuine match winner.

I don't think anyone, from what I've read, wants to take him out of the midfield all together. But it would be great if our young mids can jump up a level and give us the opportunity to get him forward at around a 50-50 split

Gresh has everything our midfield lacks. It would be a waste to play his predominately forward.
He definitely has a point of difference but I'd hardly say he has everything our midfield lacks.

You could write a decent list of what our midfield lacks

Pace and elite kicking would be high on the list as well as a genuine ball pig

His ability to win clearance and evade opposition is definitely something we do lack when he isn't in there though.

I think he could be our most important mid because the other 3 mainly used there are very similar but I’m hoping the likes of windhanger and owens can take plenty off time off his midfield spot so he is 60/40 forward instead of probably 80/20 mid as he was last year. If the others aren’t good enough to replace he must play mainly as a mid. Let’s hope that isn’t the case

McGuane is as dumb as a plank.

Who gives a semi-solid sh*t what that moron thinks?

Agree, it only works if we can find a few gems amongst our kids.

We definitely aren't going far with our current midfield though, so we need that to happen either way

Clark is another that could really give us a lift in there if he gets serious
