My call

B: Boyd Weitering McGovern
HB: Newman Kemp Saad
C: Acres Cripps Hollands
HF: Cottrell McKay Docherty
F: Martin Charlie Fogarty
Foll: TDK Hewett Walsh
Int: Cerra Pittonet Motlop Cincotta/Marchbank (Dow or Owies)

I just feel there will be some changes. Bloody good side that can win

I like this . Boyd and Hollands in just makes us look fresher and faster and two guys who shouldn't be banged up.

If fit, maybe keep Marchbank as cover and leave out Cincotta and Owies (looks out of his depth).

I'm a big fan of Dow as a sub. Hollands was magnificent when injected last week and I think in a close game Dow could be a weapon as well if subbed in at 3/4 time. Think he would have been a huge asset in the last quarter against the Dees.

Why stressed about changing the line up? We're about next man in..

We have about 16 untouchables for this season when fit enough and officially part of any game plan;
  1. Cripps
  2. Walsh
  3. Cerra
  4. Curnow
  5. McKay
  6. Martin
  7. TDK
  8. Pitto
  9. Weitering
  10. Docherty
  11. McGov
  12. Saad
  13. Newman
  14. Acres
  15. Cottrell
  16. Hewett
(Note Williams if fit would be 17)

Then we have;
  1. Silvagni
  2. Dow
  3. Motlop
  4. Kennedy
  5. Fogarty
  6. Hollands
  7. Kemp
  8. Marchbank
  9. Fisher
  10. Cunningham
  11. Cincotta
  12. Boyd
  13. Cowan
  14. Ed
  15. Owies
Who provide the basis of the remaining spots/injury cover. Granted if injuries plague in a particular spot we then proceed to dip into the remaining well (e.g. LOB if too many wingers fall over, S.Durdin/Young if all rucks or Weitering are out)

Goes to show how depth is finally taking shape where we prob only have Akuei, Mirkov, Lemmey, O'Keefe from our list who would not be given a game (if fit) unless absolutely rooted for players in their positions.

At the moment our core 16 are "fit" for this week. Get the remaining 7 from the other 16 who are 90%+ fit, chomping at the bit and play the roles we need for the opponent we face this week.

We have definitely lacked some run, carry and precision kicking from defence. Boyd brings that. Before his suspension he was one of my favorites. Tough as nails, quick, hits hard targets, defends well one on one, competes fiercely and was taking some nice intercept marks. Think he comes in for Cincotta and is possibly even an upgrade. Lots of faith in Boyd.

If Owies misses then it's for Martin, that's ok.

Think Hollands will stay in and Docherty will go back to defence, but not as a permanent defender, probably as a back pocket who spends time at half back and goes into the middle as well.

Docherty Weitering Kemp
Boyd McGovern Saad
Acres Cripps Hollands
Cottrell Martin Cuningham
McKay Curnow Motlop
Pittonet Cerra Walsh
Newman Hewett Fogarty DeKoning
Dow

This is if we want a bit more run in defence and a better quality onball rotation and Cincotta, Marchbank and Owies aren't getting up for this one.
Dow as the tactical sub. Been probably the best sub in the league all season, not just Carlton.
Docherty back pocket spending time at half back and in the centre.
Hollands to remain on a wing.
Cuningham and Fogarty to still get some midfield minutes. We need to rest the boys in there a bit more.

This is if rumors of Boyd coming in and Marchbank, Cincotta and Owies missing are true.

Effectively Boyd for Cincotta, Docherty for Marchbank, Martin for Owies and McKay for Kennedy and a sub we can genuinely use tactically who when he has come on as sub has always done damage.

Just on Dow. If Walsh or Cerra pings a hammy which has happened a few times this year. He's super important. No Dow as sub, if we lose any of those midfielders we aren't getting home so IMO he has to be Sub. Reckon Dow as sub. We lose a forward we can get through with a mid resting there. Lose a defender we will get through with 6, maybe Cuningham goes back. Lose one of our mids and Dow isn't sub then Docherty has to go in there full time.

We are going to have to go up there and run this game out really well.

Doc won't play back, hasn't in 3 months and certainly not with a suspect shoulder

Largely agree with the list, and hope that second lot aren't in any particular order! Note, you've got Georgie twice ;)

Yeah, could see Brisbane trying to isolate him deep.

I think part of the reason for this is our drop in form in last few weeks. We are winning, but not in style. Our connection with the forwards has fallen again. We had TDK win up forward last week for a short period, but aside from that we just don't look as zippy and dangerous as we did 5 or 6 weeks ago. Our backs and mids are doing a good job. We need much improvement up forward this week to stand a chance IMO.
Carlton have not lost form, they have top grade opposition with loads of finals experience and had to overcome injuries to key fwds that assist connection. We were 5 goals up before Mckay missed from the square and went off concussed. This week the forwards are back

Got bored so ran some quick numbers.

With Harry in the team we averaged 98.57 points for since the Gold Coast Win

Without we average 87.8

Jack has only missed 2 games in that time, 1 was the west coast game (Harry also missed) so that throws the numbers out.

Anyone, I reckon he's pretty important

Harry going off in the third quarter opened the door to Sydney's come back and his absence (and Martin's) made the Melbourne game much more of a slog that it could have been...

totally different attacking capability with Harry in...

we will be feeling very nervy in defense with ground ball entries- and thy will be feeling very nervy with higher ball to Charlie/Harry and TDK - with Martin and Motlop lurking - this is a very even game

Harry is what makes Charlie super dangerous.

I’m too nervous to post - just want us to give the best account of ourselves as possible - it’s been a dream to share a run like this with my kids for so long.

Go Blues!!!!
They finally know what it's like to be Navy Blue.

I'm so happy for the younger generations. I got to experience this as a kid in the 80s and 90s.

It's their turn and they've had to wait forever for it.

Andrews leads them for distance pretty much most games, you’ve made assumptions based on position not the data.
Premise is interesting, now match it to the correct data
Andrews does often rack up the most ks. But i wouldn't consider him a runner at all. Assumptions yes hence i was curious as to the answer.

It's hard to define. I guess in terms of impact on the game a true 'runner' would be someone who could help break open the game with pace, or stop the other side doing the same. And it's mostly to do with running between the arcs.

Anyway just a thought i had while bored at work; i like asking oppo boards just because they know their team better than i do.

As you were!

I don't see this drop in form that others do

Back half of the season we won close games against other finalists in Demons, Pies, Saints

Won 2 close finals, 1 of which we lead from the 1st qtr, the other coming from behind twice in the last

You don't get your own way against strong sides, especially in finals

Scoring dropped off when H went down, who woulda thunk it??

using your definition the standout at Carlton is Walsh and Acres as far as ability to break lines between the arcs - as far as ability to run >15-17 kms every week add Cottrell and Hollands to that mix- strangely enough Kemp can run 15kms+ as well...

We have enough options as defenders, it's not what's best for Doc, it's what's best for the team

Him playing back is best for neither now.

He either gets a wing or a half forward spot this week.
