Don't know why but my gut feeling is we shouldn't play Acres.

I'd rather play a 100% Hollands than a 70% Acres.

Same goes for Doc.

Win or lose it'll come down to hunger and system. Not personel.
I'm actually not against this.

It's worrying me that we're carrying two players in who are seemingly going to be quite limited in terms of their complete capabilities.

Not yet at least. He and Doc were obviously pivotal even under duress in the last quarter against the Dees. I just fear we may not want to roll those dice again.
You're not playing Doc & Acres?

If we get over Brisbane, how much will be left of us for the big dance? Probably no shame suggesting we played our GF in the PF of 99.
To a point I agree...NM were the better side (which doesn't always translate to victory)

What I will say though is that IIRC, we had the same number of scoring shots as NM, and we lost Justin Murphy with a broken leg??? either just before or just after HT

With a bit of luck, the last 10-15 minutes could've been interesting

Go Blues!!!
8 more quarters!!

Not up until now but he apparently recracked that bone.

Surely there's only so much it can take before it seriously hampers him?
He's a tough cookie he's proven that much.

For mine its not a concern over whether he can perform, it'll be if the docs are worried about lasting damage.

Same could be said for Cunningham tho.

In front of goal when the games on the line I trust Owies more to convert than Cunningham

Either way it's going to be a hard call for someone

Seems a strange take to me - I've always seen Cunners as a much better set shot, a longer set shot, and a calmer character, whereas Owies has struggled a bit from long range, and had some pretty inexplicable misses from medium range too.

Maybe my memory is off though?

Acres has carried the shoulder/collarbone injury the last 2 weeks and absolutely dominated.

If any thing it's better condition now than 2 weeks ago.

He's a September player. Let the man do what he does best. Win finals.

How could it be in better condition if he recracked it in the Melbourne game? That makes no sense.

I'm more than happy to have him play, I just think we've got a few too many with concerns (Acres, Docherty shoulder, Cripps ribs etc).

I think that Vossy has a few tricks up his sleeve - that last magnificent goal - was no 'fluke' - have a look at the players that had made full-field runs to be there- Docherty ( in his own words ) supported by the video had multiple players to pick to kick to...McGovern/Kemp/Acres/Charlie were all tallish targets open for a pass. This was obviously a planned set play - two extra tall defenders finding their way deep into forward fifty having left their opposition way behind.

The reason why Melbourne players found a way to make errors late in the game against Carlton last week was the cumulative effects of pressure on the ball carrier over 4 quarters. Carlton players were going in hard and spoiling in the last 5 minutes despite it looking like it was all over. There were examples of repeat efforts and one percenters which made big impacts all over teh ground in that last 5-10 minutes.

That kind of pressure is going to have to be repeated up in Gabba because Brisbane have a potent forward line. I dont think that Brisbane have the midfield strength of Melbourne - what they do have is much better field kicking skill and leg speed. The longer the game goes on - the more both their midfield strengths diminish. So staying in the game is priority one and that will be massive pressure on the ball and winning the ground ball and contests - exactly what Voss has been training the side (and picking the side) to do. Carlton will do better controlling the territory and forcing Brisbane into an arm wrestle.

Brisbane will want to play an open game - this has to be denied them.

Carlton lacks the 'complete' forward line of Brisbane - but that can be made up for with teh type of strong team game and mongrel never say die effort required to win these preliminary finals matches.

If the team plays anywhere near its best - we are right in this. They are a confidence team - don't give them any oxygen.
Yep. We've got to grind them out.
