Nah I think the coaches felt Erasmus wasn’t good enough last year towards the end of the season to play AFL. I’m certain if they had thought he’d improve the side he would have played in the finals. Probably instead of Brodie who tapered off a lot in the last few games.
To back this point up, they threw a one game Jye Amiss in the deep end for the biggest two games the club had played in 7 years, because they obviously felt he would improve the team. It was a bold and brave call that I didn’t think Jlo had in him but he was absolutely right.
Struggling to recall a novice player that came from absolute nowhere to play in games like that in recent AFL memory actually.
I'm not disagreeing. But in previous seasons when we haven't been in contention we gave games to players for development rather than the best available. Cerra and Henry examples. If we weren't heading towards finals I reckon Erasmus gets games.

On Monday I will do a feature on Fyfe if he is part of the match sim. From what I saw he looked good without being damaging. These match sims are designed to get run into players legs under tokin pressure and to learn the game plan.

I'm not an expert I'm just a fan who observes however I can be honest enough to say that the negativity appears to be created for click bait.
That would be good, but the fact he is fit enough to be running around in match sims is the positive. We don’t need Fyfe dominating against his teammates in January, but just getting in some match fitness which he only got from 1 Peel game last season.

I’m happy for Fyfe to save it for the real stuff, he has nothing to prove here.

Yes totally

Fyfe knows how to prepare himself. There's plenty more match sims and pre-season games ahead

But the West says that Fyfe failed to fire as a forward..... surely that means that we should delist immediately

We can’t kick goals and nothing about that will change next year. It feels like low scoring is ingrained in our psyche. It won’t change next year.

That’s nice, but I’m pretty sure the players have a different mental psyche to some followers like yourself.

I spoke to someone at the club after that first night when he got passed on, and to say they were excited he was available is an understatement.
I remember there was whispers over whether Erasmus or Johnson at our 2nd pick after Amiss…. Thought the Serong Young combo was amazing at the time ( heard that we barely spoke as thought they wouldn’t reach our pick then Wallsy drive down to Torquay few days before the draft) .… then 2021 came said “hold my beer”. Do yourself a favour listen to the podcast of the “purple reign” gents doing the 2021 draft night… can hear the excitement of every tragic Freo supporter over the two part podcast. Johnson , Erasmus and Amiss, when we win a flag all three will be on the team sheet.

It’s going to be a very competitive season not just as a club but within the club.
Treacy will want game time otherwise he could look to Victoria.
Henry needs to toughen up and perform consistently. Won’t matter as Colin Young will probably make him look elsewhere anyway.
Interesting with Brodie. Really like him and his chemistry with Serong and Brayshaw. Fyfe and Omeara comes in and suddenly it’s tough for spots.
Have to advise MJ and Erasmus on this season. Their expectations are high but could see further development at Peel while the club is competitive. Might not like it.

Lots to like about this season.

It really honestly seems like the West journos have been told to just actively look for when our players appear that they might have been hurt and just report on that
And to plug the train-on kid that will be in West Coast’s draft range

2021 was a good draft. Jacob VR almost made it to the second night. The variance in player draft value made for an interesting top 20.

My memory was Hawthorn were very keen on MJ in the top 10 but had Ward just in front of him. Freo listening to Walls were genuinely torn between Erasmus and MJ.

Pretty sure I remember seeing the a shot of the Freo drafting team room late on night 1 and then was genuine excitement with the players still on the board.

Freo believe they ended up with three first round picks that draft which enabled them to be quite flexible this year with trading and drafting.

We finally have 2 young talented key fwds in Amiss and Treacy.

We have Fyfe and Jackson down there.

We have a plethora of talented smalls.

1st he fixed the defence
2nd he fixed the midfield
3rd he fixed the forwardline.

It's time.

IMO it was the draft that finished the rebuild. We picked up the last of our core group of A graders, including a key forward, so that we could then draft for needs/gaps and trade for talent like Jackson

If we’re a serious club we don’t have the attitude the rebuild is over and constantly are looking to improve the list.

Even if we win a premiership we ask ourselves what we need to win it the year after as well.

Match committee might pick less kids, we may pick less at the draft but it’s always the list management team’s job to find good young talent.

Outside of Alex Pearce and Lachie Neale I’m not sure we recruited a single above average player in the National Draft between 2010 and 2015. We managed to develop Taberner from the rookie list too. Anyway if we’re that sh**e at recruiting for the next 6 years it will not only be painful when we’re no longer contending but hurt us when we’re contending as well.

100% should always be looking how to improve keep the team competitive. It is why I don't favour the big ticket trades, because it tends to drain the capital too much and forces you down the rebuild path.
