Thoughts on my first draft? Please pick it apart as much as needed!
Chances are, like many of us, your range of 180k ish players might change significantly. Importantly, you have spread a lot of cash in that region, so you'll be able to have your pick of the prime in that part of the team.
Do you think Noah can find the extra 15-20 points needed to get to super premium status?
Will Lachie Neale maintain his SP status as an almost purely outside player? We'll still see him with a high CBA count, I reckon, but at stoppages they want him to be the receiver, hence Dunkley.
Will Fyfe manage to avoid straining anything, breaking something, tearing something or rupturing something?
Is Rozee going to outscore Butters?

Pretty nice unit.

I picked Rozee but i would go Butters if he wasn't made of cardboard.

In the hour since I posted that I've gone troppo on my team and now it looks like this:

I really like Noah as a potential breakout this year, so gonna keep the faith with him.

I'm tossing and turning whether I go with King or Allen or a rookie.

Coffield is iffy as well.

A dollar says your team above and your team for rd 1 will appear vastly different - Coleman/Fyfe 792K, for example, neither of which loom as keepers, gives you a premium keeper on any line of choice, plus enough cash for a decent rookie.
I like the way you have plonked for some high end rookie talent and cheap returning players; that gives you heaps of flexibility for the actual starting line up without having to destroy the integrity of your preferred core.
Coleman missed the first 5 games of last year and averaged 87 he will likely be given kick in duties this year I can honestly see him as a top 10 defender this season

Here is my current thinking, the team below contains 13 of the best 30 2023 scorers, so they are locked and loaded from DC upwards ( This is how I imagine we all frame these selections ). They are all heavily discounted in terms of my estimations of their potential output. I think that discount represents upwards of $1 million, so there is my edge.

Hopper probably won't get to keeper status, but he should make it to 550K prior to the byes and provide some handy leverage at that time.
Went 97 thru 21 and will get more exposure to the nut than ever before, so could even make the jump, TBH.

TT from HB , with kick-in duties at the scratch match as well; if that holds up in the real stuff, then his scores will go bang!

The rookie/returning cash spread is enough to play with and not have to compromise the core.

I can already feel the warmth of those limited edition SC socks adorning my clod-hoppers, frankly.

Coffield already with a hammy strain, apparently. I have just scratched him on that basis.

If Rich doesn’t have kick in duties he can’t possibly be in the team.

Rich will be 33 and in he’s last season even without the kick-ins he’s still best 22 he’s still one of the best kicks in the Lions team I honestly think Coleman who is a great kick will start getting the kicking in duties this season

Should be a few more likes for this team. Nice work.
Himmelburger could be a bit iffy depending on role but that's about all.

Hi all first Team for the Year. Trying to pick a few that might be pods and present a little value. Had Kelly last year a little disappointing hoping with TT and Hopper out he will get more midfield minutes. Rucks are obviously a bit of a risk but have Cameron who can hopefully cover this if needed.

It’s that time of the year again kentlemen where we spend a ridiculous amount of time drafting up our team only to reset and then after an hour deliberating ending up with the same team minus 1 player...anyway first draft below, going to try to leave it at this for now (we know that’s a f****** lie...)

The number of players that look like breaking out this year plus the ruck roulette with Gawndy no longer reigning supreme will make it more interesting than last year I reckon - hoping for some interesting team selections

any reason ed richards scoring skyrocketed after round 15?

Doggies lads will confirm, but to my eye ( I did notice this watching them), he seemed to become the seagull/QB once they worked out O'Brien was hopeless, floating from HB as far as the wing.
I had not looked as far as these numbers as yet, though. I am now; with intense scrutiny.

Behold and rate:

I’m fairly confident on Richards because Helmet is training with the mids, but if Bevo reverts to type and changes Richo’s role, then I might upgrade him to Brayshaw or another premo (via. Bowes —> McKenna and/or Pommy B@stard —> Cameron)

VVEERRYYY bullish on Titch. I’ve been told he’s loving the pies, claims he’s the fittest he’s ever been, is off the p!ss until after the season and has been told he’s purely snout-in-trough. 115+ incoming.

Haven’t looked at byes but doubt I will, given how many trades take place before them each year. Could also swap a few premos around to make it work, at a later date.

Careful with the Mitchell expectations - he will absolutely be the main man, not sure our way of playing is conducive to his repeat possession style play allowing him to rack up the numbers he needs to go 115+. If he goes off the charts in the first 2 rounds, I'll burn a trade for him, but he won't be in my starting unit.
It is looking more and more like a balanced team, so nice work to date.
