You are still avoiding my question, why bother?

Have seen and heard this for 50 years, while we were winning flags, games by 10+ goals, people still bleating. I don't get

Why do supporters become more prevalent, bleating after a loss, yet hardly contribute after a win

What a sad existence

I haven't seen half the posters in this thread previously

I've been bleating ( your word ) about the lack of a Premiership list for a while now. Certainly far more often than after a loss. The lack of quality players. The overhyped nature of the list by many people here on Big Footy. The continuing underperformance of the same players time and time again. Im more than happy to offer an opinion that differs from the collective circle jerking that happens here most days. And I'll continue to do that.

I love a differing opinion, but here is the thing, we improve last year, this year is still in progress.

We also discussed how, after the Tiger supporters wanted to burn shit down in 2016, they won a flag a year later. Did you pick it?

Demons in 2021?

No one here is an expert, anything can and does happen

But, if you aren't happy and everything is bleak, why do you bother?

This is fairly close.

We fought very hard throughout the 2nd and 3rd quarters to get back into the game, and if it wasn’t for the last 2 or 3 minutes of the 3rd, where they kicked 2 goals in time on and blew the lead back out to 5 goals, it might have been a different story in the last. Now also think about how bad we played, and how close we were at this point. Add also in what I felt was some terrible match ups and setups by us, and it’s amazing to be in the game at this point.

This is where the game was lost. Hold on to the 18 point deficit or even kick one more before 3 quarter time and it’s game on. Unfortunately, you cannot be blown out like that in the 1st quarter, let alone interstate on such a big Occassion.

Blues looked flat, meanwhile Crows came out as if it was a GF ripping uppercuts,hooks,jabs......Carlton absorbed the onslaught didnt want to take the fight...

BTW, some context. Despite Richmond beating Adelaide, they are 1/1/3. I know which position I'd rather be in.

Yes they've had a harder run but that is a very limiting start to a campaign. Mentally at 1 from 5, you're up against it no matter what you have ahead.

I completely agree. The issue is, we haven't played well apart from one quarter against North. We've been VERY ordinary in the other 19 quarters. But we're not going to get the leniency against good sides that we did against North. Mind you, being 3-1-1 after 5 rounds and playing REALLY ordinary football is a massive and very underestimated positive.

why is weitering liking this post...
What a great culture

Leigh Matthews raised a good point about how this further erodes the integrity of the draw. This gather round is an EXTRA round of footy...which guarantees the 2 Adelaide sides an extra home game each year...on top of the huge home ground advantage they get by playing 12 games a year at the AO already. It's a pretty big advantage they'll get every year if ths stays in South Australia.
Does it really matter when there is already an uneven draw and clubs not being able to choose finals home venues?

Obviously Ross didn’t do something that heinous that he’s still in the AFL system. We royally screwed ourselves with every coaching decision we’ve made since sacking Brittain.

Ross and SOS sitting tonight and laughing.
People need to get over this Ross Lyon thing. Once he refused to go under the selection process, we had no other choice but to pursue other options imo.

That defeat and the nature of it sure is disappointing, but if Vossy is good enough for people like David Parkin and Diesel Williams, then he's good enough for me.

The thing with Vossy is that he was a serious competitor as a player. That performance or lack of performance we served up, was an insult to everything he stands for both as a player and person. Let's just hope he has the team breathing fire against the Saints.

As Jezza used to say, if you don't want to put the effort in out on the field, you can put the effort in during the week on the training track instead!

This is such a fair point… we all whinge about a couple of umpiring decisions each week but this is an extra game every year…

Not taking anything away from Adelaide’s win, but our record at the Adelaide oval from our last six was an average losing margin of 56 points…

Comparable to the Dockers/Eagles/Suns/Lions playing an extra at the MCG. Historically over the past few seasons the mentioned teams have been uncompetitive

Hi All - I come in peace!

I have seen that kind of loss so many times under Hinkley (i.e 2021 prelim and Russell Ebert memorial game), you need to ditch Voss asap, he is a coaching loser and you'll be stuck with him for a decade if you do not dump him asap.

Your list is too good to be playing this putrid game style.

Being patronised by a Port Adelaide fan.:laughv1: A new low indeed!

Carlton(almost full strength?) vs. Bold, fast ball movement team reality check 1
We've got 5 more good tests to face in the next 6 weeks, we'll no exactly where we stand soon.
l believe we are bottom half of the 8 at best, we still lacking in some areas, the more glaring areas are geninue speed across the ground, l am a fan of Voss but the game plan this year is a major step backwards, slow & predictable ball movement, the midfield has too much of the same type, there needs to be some change to progress forward.

Austin will need to get creative at the draft & find some more early picks this year.

yeah good point so your 17 games at home in Victoria this year seem a little out of balance hey?

some things are just inexcusable in my view.

I’m re watching Q1 now and the crowd get to 17 points up after (a) a rubbish 50 to Laird and (b) incompetent defence by Young on Walker.

And then this happens. Fogarty is between Plowman and Weitering inside 50 on a boundary throw in. Plowman sticks his hand up as if he has no opponent. Weitering then sags off Fogarty. Not for the first time Dawson leads Criops to the ball…who drops off him and no pressure. Dawson handballs to Laird under no pressure. Who handballs it back to Dawson no pressure. Dawsons first possesion came 5 seconds before he kicked his second to Fogarty. Somehow NO ONE in that five seconds could cover a few metres and get in front of Fogarty. Part of it happened because no one was on Keays at the throw in and walsh then half went to him then ball watched. Keays went out the back and Plowman go distracted by him and ended up on No one.

What a ****ing shambles. It’s not a shock Keays is in the forward line. How could no one be on him? How could Fogarty end up alone?

Just absolute rubbish stuff by so many players. Like…..you have a million hours to work out setups and this is what you produce.

so why increase the imbalance?

Freo, Rich, Bris, Geel, GWS and Pies all lose a likely home ground advantage This round.

Putting the crows draw in context -

By the time they hit their bye

they’ll have played 7 games at Adelaide oval,
away games at GMHBA, GWS, Gold Coast, down to Tassie to face the imposing Hawthorn
and a further “away” game against the dogs at a neutral venue.

Astonishingly the don’t play in Melbs until late June and have only 2 at the G and one at Marvel for the whole year.

Fixture was set up for them to be entrenched in the 8 by the half way mark with further home games against GCS, GWS, North and a final away game against bottom 4 WCE in the second half…

For all the Crows “real deal” articles out there and the opposite treatment metered as to how Carlton are pretenders… it’s all manufactured BS.
Adelaide will probs win at home but are likely just a punching bag when they come up against Melb, Pies, Rich, Geelong or even us etc at the G.

yeah very frustrating....

I'd love to know how our coaches/players review games. if we can see it im sure they can. but what do the coaches say about situations like the one youve highlighted? do they pin point an error and let the player in question know? do they tell them what is expected in those situations? If they've been told a few times do they still get picked or dropped to work on those elements in the vfl?

Does anyone else think that we generally play lose defensively as a team? The fact that our opposition takes marks while the Carlton player trails about 2m behind not making any impact makes it seem like this part of our game plan.
