The irony is that where the 2009-2011 sides fell apart due to a lack of quality key position players, this one suffers from lack of quality flanks and ball movers. That earlier side would have loved to have Curnow, Harry, and Weitering. This one would love to have Yarran, Scotland, and Houlihan.

Just imagine adding an up and running Chris Yarran to this current outfit.

Don't want to bag the coach...just wanted to pose the question. How much different would we look had Clarkson been appointed instead of Vossy?
We would have won last night by 9 points I reckon.

Leigh Matthews raised a good point about how this further erodes the integrity of the draw. This gather round is an EXTRA round of footy...which guarantees the 2 Adelaide sides an extra home game each year...on top of the huge home ground advantage they get by playing 12 games a year at the AO already. It's a pretty big advantage they'll get every year if ths stays in South Australia.

Food was nice.

Was into the bourbons halfway through the first, insert footage, now it’s Friday.

That pretty much covers it.
Cool, i thought i saw you on a jumping castle …😘

He’s been to two grand finals and has a 60% win rate. There is no process.

You just give him the job like north did with Clarkson and the saints did with Ross.

Carlton arrogantly asked him to interview alongside rookie and failed coaches after 10 years of successful coaching.

Pure ego driven incompetence from those running the club. Again.
Nah, no one should be above doing an interview process, remember he was sacked at Freo.

Still early in the season, I am as pissed as anyone about last night and some of the games we have played so far this year. Still have a lot of hope it starts to come together in the coming weeks

Yeah, hoping it was the aberration we had to have.

Yeah that’s the silver lining I see from the 50 point drubbing. It will put all the talented team on notice that talent alone won’t get it done and full effort is required too. If we want to do the big dance at the end of the year there is no substitute for effort and no room for lazy coasting along for the ride. I hope Voss drives this message home and gets them fired up against the Saints. Adelaide had effort in spades. We had our spades in the ground (and leaning on them). Be like Adelaide. Go Blues.

This!

He also refused to go through the process at *.

So that is 2 Clubs he refused due to not wanting to go through the process being questioned in front of a panel.
Were we going to put Clarkson through the interview process?

For me a loss like that is easier to stomach when you can fall back onto the redeening qualities of the team.
Somebody mentioned basically every team except the saints had had a bad loss this season but even Geelong at 1-3 have had a dominant win and supporters know theyll get going at some stage, Melbourne, Collingwood, Adelaide, Sydney etc have one or multiple comprehensive wins they can point to whilst they 'sort it out'. Even the bizarre 95 comparisons are not relevant. Carlton was a traditionally strong club with a RECENT history of success to point to at the time, with 3(?) 80s premierships.

Therefore the issue it seems to me as a Carlton supporter I can have no logical confidence that 'itll be okay' because what do we have to fall back on? Three scrappy ugly Malthouse era boundary hugging wins? No I don't think so. What I see is a team full of talent. Coleman medalists, brownlow medal, AAs. More than enough to hang on to - ish

So that leaves Voss and the mc. They have a lot to do. The gameplan isn't harmonious with selections yet, the confidence of players seems a bit down, the spark is dim. I'm hopeful he isn't going the way of doomed EPL managers parking the bus and playing not to lose instead of trying to win. Ala Vieira this very season and that he's building from the back early season and we'll layer as the season progresses.

That was one of those games you just don't worry about watching back.

After the abomination that was the first 10-15 minutes we were clearly the better side.

Adelaide are fluky team who run forward of the contest, have no injuries and everything went right for them tonight.

We will never cop umpiring like that in Melbourne so win enough games and we don't ever have to worry about that rubbish.

Our 2023 model is to attack from defense. Without Williams, McGovern and Docherty we are no chance. Can cover one, maybe two but not three. Tonight it meant Weitering couldn't peel off at all and the rest is history.

Adelaide are a cute little team but we won't have to worry about them when the whips are cracking. We got belted twice in 95.

Good night all.

“Flukey team” “cute”….
How condescending.
You were thrashed.
At no stage were you “the better team”.

While I agree with what you're saying, this is the Carlton board. We're allowed to be condescending to the opposition and delusion about our own team.

You smashed us.
Stuck it right up us.
Pantsed us
Embarrassed
And made us fans cringe.
You are right.
No way to dodge it.
Bloody great game played by your team and coach outsmarted ours too.
I hate it but it's true.
now go away and let us work through it. (Please;))

Was just looking at the ladder and the games for this round and these are our scenarios.

One of Dees or Dons win and Saints beat Pies, we drop to 3rd (best case).

One of Dees or Dons win and Pies beat Saints, we drop to 4th. Same happens if Saints beat Pies and Dees/Dons draw.

Dees and Dons draw and Pies beat Saints, we drop to 5th.

Blues looked flat, meanwhile Crows came out as if it was a GF ripping uppercuts,hooks,jabs......Carlton absorbed the onslaught didnt want to take the fight...

Wasnt good viewing......i guess just move on.....not a lot to take out of the game besides realising CFC midfield has looked slow on the spread most of the time this year......

Are this group actually average esp HF and flanks, plus aspects of HB also Mids config..........

And if we did that and he didn't succeed at Carlton what would fans be saying. My guess - "this is why you do a process and not just hire off reputation"...

To be fair, while the Crows DID smash us, it's also true they are flukey.

Against a decent team last night, they wouldn't get away with nearly as much. We didn't make it nearly as hard for them as we should have. Teams always look way better and have more 'luck' when they can just do what they like.

Agreed. 7 of the 9 games played at neutral venues.

Showdown shoulda been this week ensuring all 9 games were played without hone ground advantage

Yes! And if it is to be in WA next year, get the derby to coincide. Good call.
