Confidence is not high going into todays game. It may only be Fremantle but our midfield got beaten by Hawthorn's earlier in the year.

I don’t really remember the details of the game, but didn’t we win by like 80 points? Saying our midfield got “beaten” sounds ludicrous. You don’t pump someone by 80 points if your midfield gets beaten.

They were very comfortably beaten in the clearances which is just embarrassing as who do Hawthorn have in their midfield.

He turned quite a few weeks ago. He has easily been the most relentlessly negative person here since at least the Geelong game. It’s been quite a turn.

lol
I tipped us two weeks ago, but whatever champ

One of the most positive on here now turns

Don’t become negative like myself

Mate I think this is a talented side but too many misused

hoping for some reverse jinx as well, but I just don't think we are playing well at all, or trying to play the right way

hope i'm wrong , but the fake tough guy shit was a real worry imo

I said this.
100% Francis plays back. All of the time.
Gould. I'm prepared for him to take sheathers spot.
Gould can kick a long goal. He is a very long kick. But if he goes forward isn't it going to be a rather tall forward line? Bud, Mcdonald, McLean & Gould? Indeed the same would apply to Francis. If they get running off HB they can be dangerous.

I like the idea of the three talls back. That gives us some coverage for Jackson/Darcy, Amiss & Treacy. That frees up Blakey & Fox. Fox to go to Walters and nullify him as well as run off him. Blakey will probably play on Schulz if he is resting. He can run off him too. Shulx loves a goal but can be a bit lazy on the defensive side.

Mills must stay in the mids for the whole match no going back to be loose man in defence after the ball ups. The game is won and lost at the coalface not in the caboose. Rowie, Chad, Parker with Paps & Heens pinch hitting. I would also like to see Clarke go through there a bit. He is a pretty decent inside mid who knows how to get ball. His kicking skills are not great but his handballs are fast and direct. He could be setting up Chad, Errol & Co.

I họpe we win today. I don't know how much of the game I will see as I am on the slow train from Vientiane to Luang Prabang. Takes about 2 hours. A bus used to take 8-10 hours for the 265 k journey. Depending on how much of the mountain roads had fallen off the mountain. I might be able to watch the first quarter but the second will probably be lost to lack of reception going through tunnels under mountains.

The last half will be seen on the Tuk Tuk and at home lol. Good luck all. I hope you enjoy the match

Hawthorn have a few very good in and under mids. Very big bodied. Đay & Newcombe are very strong inside mids who they are building around. They also had Warpole & Nash (a bulldozer) in the mids that day. Their mids were far stronger against us than thry are now.

Kick straight ffs
Have at least 30 shots at goal. 22 is very poor from over 60 entries. If you go in 60 times you need to score between 30 & 40 of those times.

A bit of synergy between the mids and forwards would help. Bud needs to be more a bit player than a focus. Every time he plays we still target him with over 50% of entries. Last week that equated to 30 times. We were picked off so easily by their backs and they were able to move the ball out so easily. If it wasn't for our backs we would have been slaughtered.

Our players are not fit yet. That is obvious. In the last two weeks players have been cramping up. If it was one player each game I would have said those players have to work on fitness. But it was multiple players that were cramping or were just done at pivotal times in the game.

I hope we are better this week and finish the game off.

Get ready for a long post, because I am going to be pulling for Gouldy boy today.

Before the draft, I thought he was going to be THE value pick of the year and was frustrated that it looked like he would go between our picks. I was delighted that nobody took him so that we could. He felt like the steak of the draft. I was expecting him to hit the ground running and with his body size make an early debut and never look back. I thought he would be Rampe mark 2 and be a real tough leader for our club that led by example and with his physical presence.

This hasn’t eventuates so far. Covid didn’t make it easy but more importantly Gould discovered that he had flaws that were masked in the juniors. He wasn’t tight and accountable enough, he needed more fitness and more angility, and some of his strengths (eg. bigger size) dissipated with bigger and higher quality opposition. He also received a fair smack of fat shaming from the fans.

I felt for the guy. I think he thought he was destined to make it but he was clearly hit hard by doubt. In his end of season interviews you could see he felt embarrassed that he hadn’t debuted. You could see some frustration too, but mostly embarrassment. Even younger players were passing him.

Last year he started building form but the senior team was firing. There was no scope to give him an opportunity. And this year his long awaited debut was off the bench in a depleted side, and in particular backline, under siege.

Gould and good timing do not belong in the same sentence.

To everyone saying he hasn’t worked hard enough and doesn’t have what it takes mentally, I’d ask how many times have you felt like you have failed and then dug in year after year to keep chasing your dream? And then dug in again and again still?

And to people saying he is out of shape, are you looking at his cubby looking face or his body? He looks plenty trim to me, just with a wide frame and boy-like face (old mate Hannebery was the same and ran just fine until some f***wit took him out in the GF).

I think today might be Gould’s day.

I remember Rampe’s first game, another back who had to fight for his opportunity and debuted well into his 20’s. Rampe had this spark from his first couple of plays that may me think, “by jeez, we have a player here”.

I hope like hell that Gould has a couple of early sparks too that make me think the same. More importantly, I hope those sparks make him think the same. I hope he feels like he belongs, and that he stops worrying about performing and instead focuses on being himself on the field, letting his natural leadership capabilities and toughness shine.

I hope he goes in really hard and shows the boys from last week what a real hard, healthy, respectful physical presence looks and feels like. I hope he puts his body on the line and I the Fremantle players feel it, that he hits in hard as nails.

I hope this is the day he starts believing. He hasn’t had good timing for years, but this year things have opened up. The only person that can stop him being in the team is him.

Go get ‘em Gouldy boy, make yourself proud and stand tall!

Love it mate. Hope he goes okay

You can add to that a week before his debut he was in a moon boot the very moment our entire defence fell apart.
