Imagine 3 weeks ago someone saying "I reckon round 3 I'll trade out Bayley Smith for Setterfield ..."

The reaction here would be immense
I reckon bringing in Setterfield this week might be the 'Trap of 2023'.

Well played for those who started with him or got him in from last week. I still think he goes 90 for the rest of the season and will only make another 100k. You've missed his top two scores of the year and will have to upgrade him in a month's time (if you're able too).

Thinking this week:
Wilmot as D7 to see how he scores on Thursday night.
If sub 70 then Anderson to Naicos via Chesser to mid (brings Hollands onfield at M8)
If above 70, then Anderson to Gulden or Ziebell (also assumes chesser is out so I can loop Wilmot's score). Ollie Hollands stays as mid Emergency.
If I prioritise Ziebell over Gulden then I can dump the extra cash on Ladhams to bring in English with my second trade. Otherwise that trade will be reserved for a rookie swap.
I was thinking along these lines too but the issue with it is we Chesser could be sub and he plays late Sunday so looping Wilmot with him could be fraught with danger

Isn't upgrading in a month's time part of the point. Hands up anyone who things Setterfield will be a top8 midfielder...... anyone, do I hear top16, anyone?

My team is pretty mid pricer at the moment, so I'm probably more mindful of it given I'll need to jump off half a dozen in the next 3-6 weeks.

Below is ball park of what I think he will go over the next 5 weeks (avg 97.8). Only results in $110k price rise. I think you can chase more cash elsewhere.

His run in the next 7 weeks doesn't exactly scream easy either.

I've traded two player with a heavy heart - Callahan and Flanders who have collectively gone up $63k in two Rounds
If Setters survives Rd 3 and 4 I'll be pleased if he gets your $80k - if he excels all the more pleased. If he plays this week (Calf tickle) that is against Callahan's shoulder and Flander's lack of coach's faith in him at the back end of quarters. Then I factor in also getting Ryan from the Tiges with a BE of 3.

Not saying it is the best plan, but it's not a bad plan and I reckon there are coaches out there that are rolling the dice similarly for points and coin gain in the short term is all I'm saying. Some things don't have to be long term, but a means to another end.

I might go Caminiti over Ryan, not sure yet - have all the others bar Wilmot and Davey - follow the money early

It's definitely a team dependent call. I need to get in a D5 this week with only Uwland, Cowan and Chesser as current options. That means I'm going towards grabbing both Wilmot and Stocker - both who will make more cash (agree less points) than Setterfield in the next month.

Because my midfield is packed with mid pricer I'm loathed to move Sheed out for a slightly better version (~15 ppg long term).

I'm planning on using Sheed and Callaghan to get up to a Laird type next week.

His BE means he only needs to average a modest 80-90 over the next month or so, and he'll still make you 150-200K. No brainer for mine.

Definitely not a keeper as a mid though. If he had forward status, he'd be a forward keeper, IMO - very similar to Hewett of last year

If he goes at 85 he makes $58k total and is into the red in week 4.

Interesting...for some reason I thought his BE was much lower...

It's definitely going to be one that defines people's seasons - like Hewett and Brodie last year

Brad Couch suddenly got better for you the next few weeks. Sheed is an interesting one - should go 90-100's with an occasional big boppa - just doesn't look like it though at the moment. Holding value is sometimes enough too though, with a plan like yours.

If Setters is named, and the message is he's fine - I'll back him in against the most deserted StKilda team we have seen in years. Another 120 in Marvel would deliver another $65k plus - it's a shot across the bow with his calf but it looks appealing all the same. BE27 so he makes something good more likely than not in a worse case / against another good score and some coin. Carrying Callahan and Sheed probably has more risk for less reward. Crazy what we do!

Me too! He felt like an auto inclusion this week, especially because I had cash + Sheed to get there easy enough.

But looking at the projector, I feel like he's awesome if you have him and you'd nearly be hoping for people to pile in to the trade now.

'Tis a fair point. Guess I'm going off the PS praccy tag of Naicos. Not really worth tagging anyone these first 2 weeks...but LDU is a much different story, IMO. Tag him, and I reckon their whole midfield collapses (especially without Simpkin).
I reckon LDU smashes Finn, Brownlow Szn

Just a head's up - the game is at the G as it's St Kilda's 150 year celebration.

Yeah, caught a break with Steele going down, surely Essendon don't bother to run with him. He's looked good the first fortnight and looks prime to pop a score sooner or later.

You’ll find after a quick browse on the hawks board that most don’t think Finn can go with LDU. LDU does all his work at the centre clearance whereas this year Finn has started at HF and ran in from there. Seems a lot have him pencilled in as a drop candidate too. Be interesting either way but I’m probably going to back LDU in for a decent score
