Going - Hall, Ziebell, Cunnington, Mahony, Howe, Bonar, Young, Turner, Edwards, Spicer, Perez.

Staying - Shiels, Greenwood, Goldstein, Drury, Dawson.

So we will be taking players in the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th rounds?

Umm how much have you looked into our list situation before you commented?

Rawlings has already said we have to trim back our rookie list by 4 as the AFL’s 2022 assistance for us expires.

We currently have 5 live picks in the draft, which doesn’t include McKay’s potential compo and Sanders as a priority pick. And then there will be a trade or 2 and a free agency pick up as well.

We’ll be done and dusted by the 6th round.

Not a great deal to be honest.

Rawlings has already said we have to trim back our rookie list by 4 as the AFL’s 2022 assistance for us expires.

List size rule is 36 senior players +6 Cat A rookies or up to 38 senior and 4 Cat A rookies. Can also have up to 2 Cat B rookies. At the start of this year we had 38 senior players and 8 Cat A rookies, no Cat B rookies. We also took Hansen in the MSD.

Assuming the extended rookie capacity isn't extended we do have to trim back, but that doesn't necessarily mean we have to delist them.

Our current rookies are:
Shiels, Howe, Turner, Edwards, Drury, Dawson, Free and Hansen. Lynch retired prior to the MSD.

If Dawson is upgraded to the senior list and Shiels retires we would be within the 6 rookie limit, assuming we keep the senior list down to 36.

We have had 3 retire in Cunners, Ziebell and Hall so far, it seems Goldy might be let go. So we are on 35, maybe 34 senior listed players so far.

We currently have 5 live picks in the draft, which doesn’t include McKay’s potential compo and Sanders as a priority pick. And then there will be a trade or 2 and a free agency pick up as well.

We’ll be done and dusted by the 6th round.

The last two picks are semi worthless, Cal Twomey thinks 60 players will be taken in this draft and our last two picks are 53 and 59. So we really have 3 picks that are worth anything; 2, 16 and 39. If McKay goes, we will get a pick to replace his spot. If we can get Sanders he is going to eat 16 and 39 at this stage. Worst case scenario is no Sanders and no assistance at all, that realistically gives us 2, 16 and 39. If Goldy goes then we would only need to cut one senior player.

If we burn 2024 picks to bring into this year we would have to make more room.

I just can't see us taking players in rounds 4, 5 and 6. Who would you realistically rate as a worse prospect than round 5 and 6 players on our list?

If we get more capital in terms of quality picks then yeah, I think we could cut one or two extra, maybe one or two rookies are let go. I just can't se us making those kind of wholesale changes with what we have as our draft hand. Other than possibly Mahony, I don't think you have any people listed who will likely be at the club in three years time based on current trajectory and wouldn't be surprised if any of them were let go, I would be surprised if all were let go given our retirements.

I have heard his manager wants 2 years. Not sure I agree with that, but wow man, he was more than solid against the Suns. Showed what he's capable of. I have a sneaking suspicion we're gonna hear "Round 24, North Melbourne vs Gold Coast. North Melbourne, K Turner, 1 vote." In fact, I'll be having a serious dabble on that. Thanks for the heads up.
Don’t be fooled by the last few weeks by Turner iv seen this before as his done this before.
If Turner is re signed he will go back to old habits trust me we need to stop carrying these types of players.
If he was to stay at North a full time VFL role.

I'm pretty confident 39, 53 and 59 will all be used on trading in experienced outside types and KPDs.

In terms of the overall picture, I reckon it goes something like this:

38 main list:
  • definitely retire Hall, Cunnington and Ziebell
  • probably delist Bonar, Spicer, Young, Mahony, Perez
Leaves 30 on main list.
Then Mckay probably leaves under F/A, leaves 29.

Coming on the list: 9 new players.

Pick 2 - Curtin?
Pick 3 - Watson?
?NGA: Sanders
Pick 15 - Reid/Croft
Pick 39 - eg. 1 of Stephens / Fisher / Ralphsmith / Clark / Graham
Pick 53 - eg. 1 of Stephens / Fisher / Ralphsmith / Clark / Graham
Pick 59 - eg. 1 of Melican / Baldwin / D'Ambrosio
LTI: Brayden George
1 SSP/PSD/DFA - ? Ethan Phillips ?

Leaves 38 on main list.

Rookie list:
  • subtract Howe and Edwards
  • keep Drury and Dawson and Free and Hansen
  • Shiels and Turner may stay if we keep the extended list

Leaves 4-6 on the rookie list.

Just delist turner

No one from our club has mentioned it

Only some random throw away line in an age article

I don’t believe it tbh
25 year old limited ruck that shouldn’t be on an afl list to begin with

Its been reported somewhere but not sure where I saw it.

More to the point, in GR's most recent post about current contracts, he reports Free as coming out of contract in 2024.

And let me tell you this, you may think you are never wrong (though often are), but GR is never ever wrong.

I think Brady mentioned he wanted to bolster the KPD stock.

Clubs are crying at the potential for us just to match a bid on Sanders, I seriously doubt they are going to give him to us for free. You will have to ask someone with a more intimate knowledge of the draft where he is expects to go, but I think I heard as high as 5 or 6 so unless we can move our Port pick a lot higher then it would be burnt on matching a bid on Sanders.

Did something happen to George? I thought he was back on the track in June, if he hasn't had a setback I would expect a full pre-season, even if he protected from full contact for a while longer.

I think what we can and can't do with the flotsam picks we have will depend on trades I guess. We would have to elevate the Port pick a lot higher for it to survive. I guess we will get some kind of idea based on who we eventually delist and what kind of assistance, if any, we get in Grand Final week.

Bigger question is how many inclusions do we have?

Pick 2, 16, 39, 54 and 59?. Even if McKay leaves and we get pick 3, it will replace McKay. If our "assistance" is we can match a bid on Colonel Sanders with a 20% discount and nothing else and he gets a pick 5 bid then it is going to soak up 1500 points which 16 and 39 would barely cover.

That would still be 2, 3 and Sanders and 54 and 59 leftover so you can't really do wholesale delisting given Ziebell, Cunnington and Hall have retired and that combo includes McKay exiting. We wouldn't really have the capacity to manage a larger turnover, not without bringing in a lot more draft capital.

I think the plan would be to bring in 4 via the draft(pick 2,3 and 15 plus Sanders) and 2-3 via trades using future picks and this year’s third rounder. I think the assistance will include pre-listing of sanders without having to use picks on him in some shape or form.

I really dislike trading future picks as it compromises future drafts, we don't have any value outside of the first round because we blew our second round pick this year to facilitate the trade last year which we shouldn't have done. Port should have been forced to find the currency without us helping them out. Ludicrous they were able to get JHF and Riolli without trading out any players for currency. That is pick 20 this year we flushed down the toilet last year. It was such a mediocre trade given we had given up JHF, pick 1 and 20 considering the value of JHF and GWS paid a premium to move to pick 1. How the **** do you have two first round picks and end up with 2, 3 and a 4 pick upgrade on your second round pick. I hope people stop white knighting Rawlings. We would laugh at any other clubs doing shit trades like that.

We need a better trade negotiator, if I was an opposition club i would be wanting to trade with us because we always fold for mediocre deals.

if it was up to me

Bonar gone
Mahoney gone
Perez gone
cunners gone
zeibs gone
Howe gone
Edwards gone
Xerri gone
Lazzaro gone
spicer gone
young gone
Free gone
Turner gone
Mckay gone

Im confident theres at least 6 state league players better than some on that list
Im thinking

Bonar delist
Mahoney delist
Perez delist
Hall gone
cunners gone
zeibs gone
Howe rookie
Edwards delist
Lazzaro rookie
spicer delist
young delist or rookie if Shiel retires
Free rookie
Turner delist
Shiel rookie/ Retires

First 4 brings us back to a 42 list...6 delisted...4 rookied...

Thats 10 spaces for next season. Plenty of room to get players in from other clubs plus Sanders(NGA), Curtin (#2), Watson(PP) and maybe McKercher (#3 Compensation Pick)

Seems a shame to waste a good rant but we traded out our F2 for the pick that became George. Nothing to do with the JHF trade.

Not sure how you lumped this years pick 20 with the JHF pick when it had nothing to do with it. We lost last year's second rounder in the CCJ trade the year before (which was an incredibly bad trade) and last year we chose to get back into the second round by trading the F2 to grab George. I would say that our JHF trade was actually a very good deal for the club, not only allowing us to get Wardlaw while essentially swaping JHF for Sheezel, but also grabbing Port's first rounder basically offsets us not having our own second round pick this year.

Back to this year's draft however, I would say that given the state of our list, I would be happy to go all in this year and potentially trading the F1 to fast track our build. It's time to start climbing the ladder and if we think we are ready to do that, then F1 isn't untouchable any more.

I still feel Perez has something to offer. Maybe defence isn't his go, maybe he just needs another preaseason, I don't know but has the look of a modern footballer who just can't quite get it going
