IF we miss out on Himmelberg (which I believe we will, and if Lions are even interested) and Dizzy is not fit or playing inconsistently, it might be worth for at least KPD backup to give Tom Fullarton a full preseason playing back. I do believe we tried Tom Fullarton back in a few match sims and a trial game last year so that might be worth exploring next preseason as some posters have said he is a little more robust and playing better this year in the VFL.
Full cream milk has been very impressive as a forward Ruck at VFL level but 3 200cm forwards are probably too many in the AFL we have been using rather small defenders at VFL compared to our AFL team this year

yeah believe he is worth training in the backline, as KPD depth, where we appear a little short, although Joyce going OK and possibly Arnold gets a rookie contract next year. IMO Tom plays a little similar to Joe and Hippy and crashing the pack is not their preferred method.

I think himmleberg is athletic enough for us to play all of them, but if we can only play three I’d be having dizzy as the odd man out at this stage.

Mainly, I’d just like us to have a key back who is a better ball user - Harris is ok and Payne has by and large avoided the mistakes but we could use someone who can really help us intercept and rebound.

I’d add as well from our previous interactions you might be thinking that wanting himmelberg is about me not rating Payne - very much not the case as I’ve been impressed with him this year. We are just light on in this area and screwed if anyone gets injured.
I have enjoyed our interactions with you presenting some sound reasoning for doubting Payne and me trying to present the alternative view. I probably am a little bias towards Payne, but think now that he is getting some consistent games, is gaining in confidence and can just see him doing a few athletic things.

yes hopefully Tom gets a few games in the 1's at some point this year. However I do see him a little similar to Hippy and Joe where crashing the pack is not really their preferred option.

I've only seen Fullarton in the flesh once this year. Most impressed. Wouldn't be at all surprised if he got a run this year.

I'd like to see Blake Coleman pushed into the backline in the vfl. Small forward is a graveyard. I get fitness is still developing. Let's give the kid a go to see if there is a dashing line breaking defender in him.

Perennially injured 🤕

Unless we’ve got a trade target lined up, I’d prefer minimal changes this offseason season.

There’s a lot of discussion on the draft board that this year is a deep draft, and there’s going to be a fair bit of KPP talent.

I’d love to get hold of a second, second round pick. Ideally looking at Gold Coasts second round pick, or Hawthorn’s second round pick (it’s tied to the Bulldogs) because Hawthorn have a father son that might be bid on before this pick.

If we get pick 50 from West Coast for Dev we might have a decent set of third round picks that we could use to trade up in live draft night trade. (Of course I’d prefer their pick 39 from West Coast)

Of course that would mean taking some extra picks to the draft, which we’d need the corresponding list spots available.

We could use him either way but doubt we'll get in the hunt. If McStay could get 5@600 or so what's Himmelberg worth ? The other issue is that he's apparently very happy at GWS.

The whispers around Treloar being seriously considered are strong.

Not sure how we feel about that but Bevvo will have us top of his hate list.

Where are the Treloar rumours coming from? While I wouldn’t necessarily want him up here (great player but we’ve got plenty of good mids as it is), it would almost be worth it to see Bevo’s reaction alone

The biggest thing with Tom is confidence IMO. I think he's finally found some belief and confidence in his ability and we're starting to see the impact.

Always underestimate how much of a difference confidence makes. Payne for example has always looked good if not inconsistent, but now that he doesn’t have to worry about fighting for his spot he’s gone to another level.

Mates with Dunkley.

Don't want Adam Treloar.... if we do a trade/FA this off season it needs to be a key position player IMO, if it's from the Throwers Aaron Naughton will do.

Agree, especially if Dizzy struggles for the rest of the season.
Is Ben McKay worth a look?

He's a free agent and only 25 years of age, I haven't seen much of him, is he actually any better than Darragh Joyce/Harrison Arnold? The ideal FA defender would be Harry Himmelberg obviously.

Agree, however I am interested to see how Joyce and Gardiner track over this year. I am of the mind that we have a window now and probably only two more after that. If there is the possibility of getting another KPD that would benefit our team then I believe we should trade or stump up the $$$ in FA. However, I also do believe that we need to bring in KPP draft wise this year especially. Imagine getting Jeremy McGovern for a couple of seasons or someone from that vain who only has a few seasons left and is in a team that is down the bottom of the ladder.

Jeremy McGovern is a very good player at his best but is 32 next year and has been injury prone the last few years, we would want to be pretty certain he is over his injury issues.

McGovern is almost cooked, largely due to recurring injuries (same as Yeo), and has lost some of his athleticism.

We are very lucky that Jackson Payne has come on the way he has this year

north probably match any contract offer that doesnt trigger band 1

and i do not think he is worth anywhere near the money that would be required to trigger a band 1 compensation

I'd put a guy like Dev in the same category. If he was guaranteed 10 games in a row with decent game time I'm quite certain he'd blossom into a pretty good player. And Fullarton also which was the topic of the previous comment.

I thought I heard Ben McKay would be worth around $700k per year, so that seems a lot of money. I was not impressed with the way he played against us a few weeks ago, but admittedly a very small sample size. He would be better than Darragh, but Darragh has only played 17 odd games over 6 or 7 years. Arnold has to get on our list firstly but hope he does.
