Jeremy McGovern is a very good player at his best but is 32 next year and has been injury prone the last few years, we would want to be pretty certain he is over his injury issues.
A huge NO from me for McGovern
McGovern is almost cooked, largely due to recurring injuries (same as Yeo), and has lost some of his athleticism.
Should have worded it better. A McGovern type, good KPD from a lowly team. I would prefer Barras but would cost plenty IMO.

I'd like to see Blake Coleman pushed into the backline in the vfl. Small forward is a graveyard. I get fitness is still developing. Let's give the kid a go to see if there is a dashing line breaking defender in him.
The main problem Blake has is his aerobic ability he just doesn’t have it. He has football ability and IQ but just can’t sustain repeat efforts. This is why he consigned to the forward line.

If he wants it enough he will improve his aerobic capacity. He may not become an endurance athlete but everyone can improve. If he is not improving he obviously doesnt want a football career.

I thought I heard Ben McKay would be worth around $700k per year, so that seems a lot of money. I was not impressed with the way he played against us a few weeks ago, but admittedly a very small sample size. He would be better than Darragh, but Darragh has only played 17 odd games over 6 or 7 years. Arnold has to get on our list firstly but hope he does.
On Arnold - is there a risk or chance we could get trumped and he could be picked up by another AFL team in this mid-season draft period if they want him?

From my viewing of Blake in the twos, both at the ground and every week I watch him on the live stream, he unfortunately doesnt look hungry enough and looks quite passive - perhaps due to fitness. I know Kiddy is pretty laconic, but he just doesnt look like he wants it enough - a massive observation on my part from afar, but I just don't see it with Blake unfortunately.

I'm positive we don't even have a list spot to take him unless we end up a long term injury before the end of May and I hate even thinking of that. If he's nominating for the MSD some other club has already made a commitment to him.

We missed our window to get Arnold straight onto our list. To be a Lion now we have to wait until the National draft and any club is free to take him in that. Taking Joyce was the right move though imo.

There's a very good chance we will lose lyons, matho and deven this year we need to recruit 1 or 2 inside mids as replacement I like Alex Davies from the suns I think he has the potential to be as good as dunkley.

Lyons is contracted for one more year.

Mathieson had a look around last offseason and found no takers.

I fully expect Dev to move to West Coast at the end of the year. Either for a late pick, or WC walk him to the PSD.

I doubt Lyons or Mathieson find much interest at the end of the season. The game has changed, and there really isn’t room for more than one slow, inside contested mid in teams today.

From the looks of how our reserve team has been playing this season, we’ve moved Answerth in to a midfield and forward role.

We’ll have enough listed depth in our squad with Lyons, Mathieson, Answerth and Tunstill next season.

Along with Lohmann and Cockatoo building their tanks and rolling through the reserve midfield. Possibly even Shadeau Brain doing the same.

We probably add two mids in the 2024 draft, in Levi Ashcroft and Sam Marshall. And we probably have double bottom age academy prospect Dan Annable on our radar as well for the 2025 draft. (Marshall and Annable looked like our best two mids in our last academy game).

i dont think lyons would want to move clubs, he is effectively to us what luke dunstan is to melbourne. if an inside mid gets injured hes the first one getting called up to the side.

Lachie on Dev ‘He’s handling it really well’: Neale backs WA’s Robertson

Dunkley coming in cannot have helped him. But I've found it interesting to note how many midfield minutes Zorko is getting. He is on his last or second last year and playing some inside mid as well as half forward. Dev would be the best replacement for that role in my view. Dev is not as big as Dunkley or Berry but bloody strong so i think he counts as a big ISH bodied mid.

Perhaps Dev can be a wing but his disposal a bit iffy and seems to get a bit lost. Plus Fletcher likely to be playing there soon.

As much as we take a look at what else is around I think it's crucial we hang on to Dev and Prior. Both look really promising and also could have an element of package deal being mates during WA days.

i think dev going would be softened a bit by tunstill looking quite promising

prior is one id definitely be keen on keeping

Lyons has one more year in contract.

I think he's doing midfield coaching / strategy stuff too so I think he'll be around.

Difficult to hang on to Dev if we can't play him in 1s. I think he'll go.

Prior is more of a utility so has more chances to slot in and can play forward/wing/defense like Ah Chee - we need to hang on to him.

Any ideas on what our cap space is looking like?

Should be better I think. We extended Daniher's contract and all the news around that time was it wasn't top dollar. Hipwood - long contract and not top dollar. Neale may have received a bump but even that gets offset over the +3 year extension. Zorko and Rich wouldn't be at the peak earning cycle anymore.

I suspect we created a nice buffer to grab Dunkley last year and could repeat that this off-season (say a Himmelberg or someone who fits a need and wants to come).

Not a good sign for elder statesmen Rich and Zorko sustaining soft tissue injuries, can be hard to kick once you are well and truly on the wrong side of 30 years of age.

Rich I think is eminently replaceable, Zorko's energy, pressure and skill set will be very hard to replace, he is a unique package IMO. If Zac Bailey can reach his full potential he is one who may be able to play a similar role to Zorks.

He's the only player we have that is both highly competent as a midfielder and forward in both attack and defense, and he's really important for linking those two lines for us (I reckon this is the biggest issue with the Carlton forward set up at the moment).

I'm not convinced Tunstill can play in the midfield in the AFL.
He played as an inside mid for the WA colts and has not played in this position for the Lions. Robertson was the same he was an elite inside mid and has been improving his outside game since being recruited until this year. It looks like the coaches try to improve their skill set and versatility when they arrive at the lions.
