It has to be the big name target ND are after.

I don't know whether Ewers has already graduated, but can you imagine what an insane dynamic is being created on campus for these players?

Especially at private universities, imagine you're a lower-middle class kid, you're paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in tuition with student loans that will take you lifetime to pay off...

For what? So this campaigner that you're sharing a campus with can be paid millions of dollars?

I don't begrudge players being paid given how much money is involved in this system, but I hope that dynamic is understood and players are helped through it.

Is it just me? Watching the coverage via Foxtel and the crowd noise is muted to nothing.

Is that the same however you guys are watching it?
I think a bunch of Texas tickets didn't sell.

First and QF games should be on campus. First round games were loud

Yeah it's going to be interesting. Why bust your arse to make someone else rich with no reward for your own efforts.

Why not make a college match every dollar paid to a single player go to a team pool to be shared amongst the non paid players.

The team dynamics will be interesting where there is no established picking order of player payments like the NFL.

The school isn't paying NIL it's boosters and collectives.

The biggest issues with NIL are the uncapped collectives, unlimited transfers without having yo sit out anymore and coaches tampering with players to get them to enter the portal

Is there any cap on spending either for the whole roster or individuals?

Nope. NIL was rushed and not well implemented with no real safeguards for caps or keeping shady agents or boosters away. If anything invited them back in

So basically they have created an arms race.

Individuals can now buy teams and corporates can expense college payments alongside corporate jets and country club memberships.

Also it's not just football. All sports. I know Stanford had its softball pitcher poached after a playoff run. She got over a $1m offer. Basketball, volleyball, Olympic sports and everything else has players get big offers now to transfer.

And over 1/3 of the players in the transfer portal are repeat transfers. There were over 2500 college football players in there last month

College football and some basketball programs were already doing this. Just now its legal.

But it's the wild wild west. No real rules, bad faith agents and non binding agreements. Some kids are passing up on quality education for a slightly bigger one time payment and will never make it to the NFL anyway.

Yeah the under the table stuff has always been there but at least they had to be creative and any alma mater with integrity stayed away. Now it opens up untethered funding.
