I hope the blueprint for timeslots has been set this year for QClash - the sunday night before the public holiday, and a Saturday twilight for the return, with venues swapping each year.
yeh good callThe only thing they need to do is move it to a time that it can be on the main 7 channel. Would need to be 3.20 instead of 4.30. You don't want the derby shoved away to secondary channels, as it makes it appear unimportant in QLD.
I reckon we’ve outgrown a 30,000 stadium to be honest. A 30,000 stadium in effect is for 20,000 crowds (Geelong sell out a 38,000 stadium and struggle to get 30,000). How many clubs now play crowds in front of 20,000 or less (that isn’t a one off)
I can only think of North and perhaps the Saints?
For a team that’s never played finals.Assuming if the QClash sells out - That would 4 sell outs out of 8 games?
Yes, paint some of the concrete to give colour like AFL murals or such like.
The VFL mural at Waverley Park was always amazing (still is).
Funnily enough, I searched my Twitter and found that I suggested to the MCG that they do something similar on the outside of the GSS. They replied with “not a bad idea…”
That was in June 2010, and still no mural

5 years ago plenty were saying “get rid of the suns, it’ll never work” etc. I’m glad that chat is no longer.
If the suns have a period of success, they’ll need to look at expanding the capacity of the ground I reckon.
Ticket prices would be much higher, access to GA seats and memberships much lower. If its not on a trainline in the city its harder to get to, and since every line on the Metro goes past either the MCG or Docklands people will be annoyed about the extra travel to get a shittier experience.30,000 sell out games for North, Saints and dogs would be so much more a spectacle than 25,000 at Marvel. It would even drive demand with the fear of missing out.
There seems to be a lot of seating left for GA. Also weird that stopped selling GA and then started again.Tomorrow’s weather forecast is awful (again). Will impact reserved seat and walkups. Saints crowd last weekend was probably 10-15% below expected thanks to the weather. They haven’t released reserved seats the last couple of hours so perhaps they’re calculating a significant walkup of GA Club members from both sides. Again, I think it’s weather dependent but I was loosely thinking 35-37k at best if it’s a wet day. It may surprise however.
I am in the ‘roof open is way too glary’ camp. But it’s a great stadium that has its place, for example for 40,000 crowds like last night.Marvel is an easy fix.
Open the god dam roof and she gains 15 years in age. Put 50,000 new freshly painted seats with cup holders in and a 3rd row of LED around the top tier and it’s a world class stadium next to a world class transport hub.
We don’t need a bigger marvel we need a smaller one too.
MCG 100K
Marvel 50K
New stadium (AAMI park equivalent)30K

40,500 at Docklands.
I’ve got a feeling they’ve started selling seats again given the rain and they now expect a lower walkup. There seems to be a lot of seating left for GA. Also weird that stopped selling GA and then started again.
We're down in Melbourne for the weekend and will be heading to the game. Having lunch at South Wharf before the game.I’m in QLD.. I just saw the Melbourne radar. It wouldn’t matter if there was a roof or not, today’s crowd will be impacted by the rain. Imagine walking to the stadium from the city or from South Wharf in that!
South Wharf is terrific. I worked for 5 years in that ‘ANL’ corporate building at the entrance of the DFO. Spent many mornings enjoying a coffee or lunchtime at the various eateries and evenings at the bars. Great memories. I had a carpark in the office building and walked across to the ground. My memory serves me well. We're down in Melbourne for the weekend and will be heading to the game. Having lunch at South Wharf before the game.
Bit of a bleak kind of afternoon but will be heading in to the undeterred. Can imagine others won't be be as keen.
More worried about the Dee's v Giants game at the G. Got poncho's with me but hopefully won't need them later this afternoon with a rain clearing trend on radar edging it's way across the city

The rain will clear in the next hour. Lucky you!! Barrack hard for the ‘Same Olds’ in my absence
Why is that game scheduled for the G anyway? That Essendon-Fremantle game At the G next week is looking REALLY bleak right about now.
