No doubt.

And it’s the exact same reason I knew Freo and GC would pay through the nose for Bolton and Rioli.

Maybe North should look at players with a WA link now. Try to use the selling of games to their advantage.

It will be interesting in three years.. who has the better group Nort or tigs….

There's schools of thought that next year's top end exceeds this years, but the problem is many of those top end players are already tied to clubs.

It could all change of course. Welsh for instance was a projected top 5 pick this time last year, and will now probably end up in the fifties or slide even further...but the early signs aren't great on how compromised 2025 is going to be.

It gets a bit boring as its an annual constant and I cant see it changing. The four icy pole clubs will soon be joined by Tas.

12 months can change it a bit . Lets hope our Acad kid grows to top prospect to get our lick

I doubt the media dept would be receiving communication from Mackie about their intentions.
Yeah, but I thought Mackie or Wells was on the record in some news not so long ago that we "might" trade up... but I guess the key word was "might"... although I could be wrong there, can't remember exactly when/where that was.

Weirdest pick of night 1 has to be GWS. P24. for Angrove.

Surely if the trade the pick P24 and still get him later.. What would Geelong have given for that pick… and id be surprised if he was not there in the 40’s

Suggestions were that North was trying to trade their F1 from approx pick 8 onwards

Why wouldn't GWS get on that with pick 24?

I've been thinking about the irrational and over played emotion regarding the North trade here.

If North had have traded their future 1st for pick 18 would you be happier?
And let's say they still took Whitlock? What's the diff between 18 and 27 if they were focussed on the player? Answer, zero.

But lets break it down.
It's not unreasonable to suggest North finish 12th in 2025.

So, this is how it looks.
Lose - 2025 pick 6
Gain - Whitlock, 2025 pick 19.

Of course there's some risk with every draft choice.
But the trade was not stupid.

Carlton traded pick 12 and pick 14 for pick 3 during the trade period

North could jump up a bit next season but the only teams I would be confident they finish ahead of would be Richmond and West Coast

Therefore I would value their future 1st at pick 3

In comparison to what Carlton gave up for the same pick they got pick 27 and Richmond's future 2nd rounder which will be at about pick 25

Unless Whitlock is Wayne Carey incarnate they have been robbed blind

Can't spin it any other way

In the end all that really matters is the players we select are good players and not misses… no matter what number they are selected or what we do to get the picks.
Or even one “hit” from the draft is enough for me. One from the draft, one from a trade (Smith?), one of the youngsters breaking out (Clark?) gives us 3 new players which is enough to keep us ticking over. Last year we had Mannagh, Humphries, Dempsey. Anything more (Martin, Conway, Knevitt, O’Sullivan, Mullin, ???) is a bonus.

That seems to be the point with this draft. Incredibly even throughout and mixed opinions everywhere.

It’s a good draft, but not an elite draft.. it’s value lies in its depth

Outside of our current best 23 I think Conway, Clark, Knevitt and Clohesy all need AFL games to continue their development. If O'Sullivan has a big pre season you can add him to that list. We shouldn't be desperate for the instant gratification of trading up this year. It will be a grim year next year if we trade the FF to Richmond then don't make finals.
